INTRODUCTION This demo script introduces the new transportation management capabilities in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 with a special focus on planning the outbound transportation. The demo script introduces the features that are included in this release. The main concepts are outbound transportation planning, rating, routing, and confirmation. AUDIENCE The demo script can be used to demonstrate the value of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 to a business decision maker (BDM). It is aimed for the transportation managers, coordinators, and planners in outbound transportation management. These personas will find value in getting insight into the following areas: Getting overview of the demand for transportation planning based on sales orders Planning the outbound transportation Consolidating sales orders into one load SCENARIO Karl, the logistics manager has already made setup for the carriers and services to plan the outbound transportation for the sold goods. Alicia creates a sales order for a customer that has ordered 10 mini-speakers. Ted needs to make the transportation planning so that the goods are delivered to the customer. Alicia opens the Sales order form by going to Sales and marketing > Common > Sales orders and clicks to create a new Sales order. She needs to select the Customer account: US-019 that has the Name: Sunflower Wholesales. On the Create sales order form, Alicia selects this customer and clicks OK. On the Inventory tab, select Reservation from the drop-down box under Maintain. Ted plans the outbound shipment. From the Sales order form, click Load planning workbench. Next, select the appropriate load template from the drop-down box in the Load template ID field and click OK. Now that the load is created, it is ready for rating and routing. Select the load and click Rating and routing > Rate route workbench under Loads. Select the one that is optimal, and click Assign to assign the rate and route to the load. Go back to the Load planning workbench. Now that the transportation planning is finished, the load can be released to warehouse. Click Release to warehouse under Loads > Release > Release. When the warehouse processes are completed, click Ship and receive > Confirm > Outbound shipment. The status of the load has changed to Shipped. The outbound transportation planning is finished.
