R E L E A S E N O T E S Agilent Infinity LC Instrument Component Software Version 1.0 for Empower Software These release notes explain how to install the Waters Instrument Component Software (ICS), version 1.0, for the Agilent Infinity LC modules. The Agilent Infinity LC ICS version 1.0 provides control and communications of Agilent Infinity LC modules that implement Agilent s Instrument Control Framework (ICF) driver. Waters ICS is intended for use in conjunction with Empower 2 software (build 2154) and Empower 3 software (build 3471). This ICS differs from the Agilent LC ICS (for A1100/1200 modules). This version of the Agilent Infinity LC ICS supports the following modules: A1260 Infinity LC A1290 Infinity LC A1100/1200 LC Restriction: Only one Infinity LC system per acquisition computer is supported in this release (PCS 24365). Installation Notes Recommendation: Back up all Empower projects, library information, and databases before beginning the installation. Supported software Waters tested Agilent Infinity LC ICS v1.0 with the following versions of Empower Software: Empower 2, Feature Release 3 (FR3) at a minimum Empower 3 software (except for Windows Server 2008 as a Citrix server for Empower 3) Requirement: At a minimum, the system must be running Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3). The computer configurations, operating systems, and hotfixes supported by this ICS are identical to those for Empower 2 build 2154 FR3 and Empower 3 build 3471. If your Empower system is an earlier version or feature release, you cannot install the ICS. Refer to the Empower 2 Installation and Configuration Guide, the Empower 3 Installation and Configuration Guide, and the appropriate release notes for details. For incremental information on operating system and hotfix support, visit the Waters web site (www.waters.com). Supported firmware and modules This version of the ICS supports Agilent firmware versions A.06.32/B.06.32/B.06.41. If you follow Agilent guidelines for firmware versions that Waters previously tested, Waters expects no incompatibilities. Consult Agilent or refer to its web site for additional firmware compatibility guidelines. (PCS 24475, 24508) Note: The modules listed above have been structurally validated by Waters for use with the Agilent Infinity LC ICS v1.0 software. While the Agilent Instrument Control Framework may support additional modules not indicated above, use of these additional modules is outside the structural validation of the Agilent Infinity LC ICS v1.0 and is therefore subject to use at your own risk. The ICS adds support for these plates: 96-well plate, 0.5 ml 96-well plate, 750 µl Vial plate, for holding 54 2-ml vials To import or select plate type definitions, use Configure System: 1. Select Configuration Manager > Plate Types. 2. Inside a row in the Plate Type Name area, right-click and select Import from Text. Page 2 of 8

3. Enter or browse to the path and name of the plate type file. 4. Enter a name for the new plate type definition, and then click OK. You can also right-click and select New to enter a new plate type name. Installing the Agilent Infinity LC ICS The Agilent Infinity LC ICS consists of these components: Driver Needed for Empower software to communicate with Agilent Infinity LC modules. User interface Includes the instrument method editor and system control panel in the Run Samples utility. To use the ICS software on an Empower Enterprise (client/server) system, you must install the software on every computer, LAC/E 32 module, client, and Empower Citrix application server that interacts with the Agilent Infinity LC, its methods, or results. You need not install the ICS software on the database server unless the server hosts client software and interacts with the Agilent Infinity LC, its methods, or results. General installation instructions using ICS media (not for an Empower Citrix application server): 1. Power-off the Agilent Infinity LC and reboot the computer. 2. Log in to the computer using an account with local administrator privileges. 3. Insert the Agilent Infinity LC ICS media in the media drive. 4. Browse to the root directory of the media and double-click the setup.exe file. 5. Follow all prompts to complete the installation. 6. Reboot the computer to correctly establish communication with the instruments. Requirement: Use Configuration Manager to verify that the DHCP Server Service is running before you power-on the Agilent Infinity LC. 7. Power-on the Agilent Infinity LC. General installation instructions using a downloaded executable file: 1. Power-off the Agilent Infinity LC and reboot the computer. 2. Log in to the computer using an account with local administrator privileges. 3. Browse to the location of the downloaded Agilent Infinity LC ICS v1.00.exe file on your local hard drive, and then double-click it. 4. Follow all prompts to complete the installation. Requirement: Use Configuration Manager to verify that the DHCP Server Service is running before you power-on the Agilent Infinity LC. 5. Power-on the Agilent Infinity LC. To install the Empower Agilent Infinity LC ICS on an Empower Citrix server: 1. Insert the Agilent Infinity LC ICS media in the media drive. 2. Open the Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove Programs. 3. Click Add New Programs. Page 3 of 8

4. In the Run Installation Program dialog box, click Browse. 5. Browse to the location where the media is installed. 6. Select the setup.exe file, and then click Open. Tip: To see the file, you sometimes must select All Files from the Files of type list. 7. Follow all prompts to complete the installation. Verifying the Installation To verify the installation, click Start > All Programs > Empower > Empower Installation Log. Search for a line similar to this: *********************************************************** Installed Agilent LC 1.0.0.0 on 07-27-2011 14:53:21. *********************************************************** The checksum.txt file documents the installation of any option or service pack on an Empower computer. This file indicates the installation of all options or service packs and verifies the integrity of disk files by comparing their current CRCs and sizes with original values recorded during installation of the base software and any installed option or service pack. This checksum file is created when you run the Verify Files utility. Run Verify Files by clicking Start > All Programs > Empower > Verify Files. To display the checksum.txt file, navigate to the \Empower\Script directory, and then double-click the file. Uninstalling the Agilent Infinity LC ICS To assure that file verification can be done successfully following the removal of the ICS, you must reboot the computer before you uninstall the ICS. To remove the Agilent Infinity LC ICS from your system: 1. Reboot the computer. 2. Select Start > All Programs > Empower > Remove Waters Instrument Component Software. 3. Click Remove. 4. Select the product you want to remove, and then click Next. 5. Follow the prompts to remove the instrument component software from your system. Result: The registry and new CRC checksums are updated for the Empower installation. No Oracle or system files are affected. Validation Information After you install or uninstall the ICS software on a qualified system, determine whether the system requires requalifying according to your laboratory s standard operating procedures. Requirement: Where the installation is the initial one in a GxP-regulated environment, perform a full qualification of the Empower software. Page 4 of 8

Recommendation: Run the Verify Files utility or the ConnectionsAQT for Empower IQ and review the resulting file for an entry that states No installation changes were detected. Tip: The date displayed when running Verify Files (IQ) always reflects only the most recent installation. See the Install.log file for the complete history. Known issues These are the known issues or behaviors associated with the Agilent Infinity LC ICS. General issues or behaviors The system runtime as defined in the Empower sample queue will be used for sample queue execution. Most Agilent modules use a method-based Stoptime, which the Empower runtime overrides. The method value for run time is ignored. Empower sample queues adopt the Empower sample plate definitions. Any Agilent control-panelbased well plate settings (Edit or Assign) are therefore ignored. Auxiliary channels are not supported in this version of the ICS. The tab is not available in this release. The system control panel simultaneously displays as many as four instrument modules. If you configure five or more modules, then you must manage any control panel access by temporarily minimizing some modules while accessing others. Pretreatment functions are not supported. The tab is not available in this release. Agilent VWD spectra support is not available. The Agilent installation files are not included as part of the Empower verify files utility. Uninstalling the Waters Agilent LC driver does not remove the Agilent-installed files. You must manually uninstall and remove these files. Known issues with assigned PCS numbers The following table contains a list of the software problems encountered with the Agilent Infinity LC ICS. The Product Change System (PCS) numbers identify software issues that Waters personnel monitor within a system change request tracking tool. PCS Number Description 24066 Agilent auxiliary channels are not reported in an Empower instrument method. The tab is not available in this release. See PCS 24213, 24214. 24068 There is no current ability to change pressure units on the Instrument Control Panel. 24071 The following options, usually accessible by right-clicking on the Agilent 1260 instrument control panel, are currently not available: Control Method Purge Condition Prime Page 5 of 8

PCS Number Description Solvent selection Pump switch 24072 The Agilent Set Error Method does not function as a default shutdown method. 24075 If you select Save and Apply Changes in the Agilent Method Editor from the control panel, the changes will be applied but not saved. 24089 The acquisition log displays ecord information. However, the ecord is no longer available. 24092 In Report Publisher, the Comprehensive Reports are not available. 24112, 24323 The Empower Data Start feature in the Run Samples window (sample queue column) is not supported by the ICS modules, and is ignored with all post injection data acquired. Samples continue collecting data from t.0, disregarding any values set in the data start time column. 24213, 24214 Auxiliary channels are not supported in this version of the ICS. The tab is not available in this release. 24215 In the Agilent 1290 Y axis, the run time exceeds normal values. This is due to an incorrect sampling frequency for the auxiliary traces of the G1315C/D and G1365C/D modules. There are three auxiliary channels on the MWD. The Board Temperature channel and the Optical Unit Temperature channel appear to send data at a 10 Hz rate, but, when queried, indicate they should be sending data at a 1 Hz rate. This causes some displays to appear as though they are running 10X longer than they should. The third channel is Voltage, which correctly indicates a 10Hz data rate. A workaround is to try a single channel only, to avoid possible driver confusion with other channels. 24255 Since the autoloader lists all instruments that are available to install, it also attempts to determine the Agilent firmware state. 24279 Windows XP SP3 is the minimum operating system required to install the Agilent ICF ICS. During silent installation, the installer will install the ICS on Windows XP SP2, although that operating system is not supported. 24291 For the Agilent 1290 valve load, the sampler device does not display the correct valve position (Mainpass/bypass). 24292 The control panel on the Agilent 1290 does not reflect single injection. The sampler device in the control panel does not display the vial and plate position, nor does it display the injection volume for manual injections. 24302 After selecting Scan Instruments on the instruments page, the Agilent system status displays as OK? = YES. If you power off the Agilent module and scan the system again, the status still appears as OK? =YES. You must exit the Configuration Manager window to update the status. 24305 A 3D scan from the control panel in the Run Samples window does not work. Empower data acquisition outside of a sample injection (in this case, using the scan function from the control panel) is not currently supported. 24307 The Empower solvent consumption calculations functionality is not available. 24363 Control of the Agilent system is disabled when a shutdown method is initiated. 24399 In order to configure the Agilent 1260/1290 for use with the Empower DHCP server, the DIP switches must be set to dynamic setting (all switches must be in the 0 position). When connected to the Empower chromatographic data system, the Agilent 1260 Infinity LC (with all dip switches set to off) receives an IP address from Page 6 of 8

PCS Number Description the acquisition client or LAC/E 32 automatically through DHCP. 24400 If the Agilent Infinity LC is configured in the DHCP server before other Agilent modules complete their initialization, the Agilent control panel in Run Samples can produce offline errors. To avoid these errors, before attempting to configure the system in DHCP Server, always wait for all modules to complete their initialization. 24405, 24406 If you collected data with previous versions of Agilent software (for example, A1.06.100), you will not be able to create derived channels or new method sets for the older data unless you still have the older Agilent driver installed. Nor will you be able to see old methods or print old reports. You must install the older version of the Agilent software in addition to the Agilent Infinity ICS in order to see instrument parameters for the previously acquired data. When both versions of the ICS are installed, you will see two choices on the DHCP tab: A1100 and AgilentLC. 24426 Fluorescence scanning using both excitation and emission at the same time is not supported in this release. 24464 Run samples can flicker uncontrollably when using the Agilent LC control panel. This behavior can be corrected by installing Microsoft Patch KB955692. You must request this patch directly from Microsoft. 24466 When using the Agilent Infinity LC ICS v1.0 through a Citrix client, it may take up to one minute for the Instrument Method editor to fully populate and open. 24473 The complete list of active channels may not appear in the Tree view of the Instrument Method. This can be a common Empower behavior. 24491 If you are uninstalling the Agilent Infinity LC ICS v1.0 driver and you receive an error message indicating there is an error removing the Agilent Instrument Control Framework, you must complete the removal of the Framework by using Add/Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel. Then reboot the computer and finish uninstalling Agilent Infinity LC ICS v1.0. 24509 In order to remove a chromatographic system from control by the existing Agilent LC instrument component software (for example, ICS version 1.06), first remove the chromatographic system from Empower software, and then recreate it as a chromatographic system under control by the Agilent Infinity LC ICS. Once you have created the system under Agilent Infinity ICS control, in order to return the system to control under the Agilent LC ICS, you may need to recreate all chromatographic systems.
