SECTION 4. FIRST AID MEASURES If poisoning occurs, immediately contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre (telephone 13 11 26), and follow the advice given. Show this to the doctor. Inhalation Move to fresh air. Keep patient warm and at rest. If symptoms persist, call a physician. Skin contact In case of contact with skin wash off immediately with polyethylene glycol 400, then with plenty of water. If symptoms persist, call a physician. Eye contact In the case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Ingestion Rinse mouth. Keep at rest. Do NOT induce vomiting. Obtain medical attention. Notes to physician Symptoms Local: To date no symptoms are known. Systemic: May cause stuffy or runny nose and scratchy throat, lacrimation, lethargy, diarrhoea. Treatment Local treatment: Initial treatment: Symptomatic. Systemic treatment: Initial treatment: Symptomatic. Gastric lavage is not normally required. However, if a significant amount (more than a mouthful) has been ingested, administer activated charcoal and sodium sulphate. There is no specific antidote. SECTION 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Suitable extinguishing media Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide. Extinguishing media which should not be used for safety reasons High volume water jet. Hazards from combustion products Dangerous gases are evolved in the event of a fire. Precautions for fire-fighting In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Remove product from areas of fire, or otherwise cool containers with water in order to avoid pressure being built up due to heat. SECTION 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Personal precautions Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Avoid dust formation. Avoid contact with spilled product or contaminated surfaces. When dealing with a spillage do not eat, drink or smoke. Environmental precautions Do not allow to get into surface water, drains and ground water. Methods for cleaning up The nature of this product, when contained in commercial packs, makes spillage unlikely. However, if significant amounts are spilled nevertheless, the following advice is applicable. Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust). Collect and transfer the product into a properly labelled and tightly closed container. Clean floors and contaminated objects with plenty of water. Check also for any local site procedures. SECTION 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling Hygiene measures: When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Remove soiled clothing immediately and clean thoroughly before using again. Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, using the toilet or applying cosmetics. Wash hands immediately after work, if necessary take a shower. Advice on protection against fire and explosion: Dust may form explosive mixture in air. Storage Requirements for storage areas and containers: Keep out of the reach of children. Store in a place accessible by authorized persons only. Keep away from direct sunlight. Developmental toxicity: Hydramethylnon was not a primary developmental toxicant in rats and rabbits. Developmental effects were observed but were considered secondary to maternal toxicity. Neurotoxicity. Mutagenicity Hydramethylnon was not mutagenic or genotoxic in a battery of in vitro and in vivo tests. SECTION 12.
