Technical Data Sheet PRIMAL SF-208ER Binder Based on Formashield Technology For Functional Interior Wall Paints Regional availability Product Description EMEA PRIMAL SF-208ER is an aqueous, styrene-acrylic binder designed for the formulation of semi-gloss to matt paints which can contribute to the reduction of the formaldehyde (and other aldehydes) content present in an indoor atmosphere. Key Features Low odour No coalescing agent required for film formation Ambient cross linking technology Wide formulating window with good balance of dry film properties Typical Physical Properties (Not to be used as specifications) Property Typical Values Appearance Milky liquid Solids content % 47.5 48.5 % ph 8 9.5 Viscosity (LVT, 2#,60rpm,25 ) 500 cps max. Minimum film formation temperature ~4 C Specific gravity (wet polymer) 1.04 g/cm 3 Specific gravity (dry polymer) 1.09 g/cm 3 Page: 1 of 5 PRIMAL SF-208ER Binder / Dow Coating Materials Rev 1: Feb. 2018

Formulation Guidelines PRIMAL SF-208ER Binder can be formulated like many other conventional self film forming styrene-acrylic binders. It is compatible with many types of pigments, extenders, dispersing agents and rheology modifiers. However aldehyde releasing raw materials should be avoided since they can affect the performance of paint films based on PRIMAL SF-208ER. Dispersants DOW hydrophobically modified dispersing agent OROTAN 731A ER Dispersant is our recommendation for high quality interior paints based on PRIMAL SF-208ER Binder in order to provide best paint stability and film performance. Defoamers In semi-gloss to satin paints formulations, the best results were achieved by using DOWSIL 108F Additive in the grind. Addition of ~0.1% weight of DOWSIL 108F or DOWSIL 8590 in the letdown can be done if needed. For matt paints, addition of 0.2% DOWSIL 111F in the grind was found to provide very good efficiency. Rheology Modifiers and Thickeners HEUR thickeners like ACRYSOL RM-5000 or ACRYSOL RM-2020E Rheology Modifiers were found to be the most suitable to achieve application properties and provide good film resistance such as wet scrub and stain resistance. If higher low shear viscosity is required, the addition of low level of ACRYSOL RM-8W / ACRYSOL RM-8WE or ACRYSOL RM-855 can be done. Coalescents and Co-solvents Primal SF-208ER has a low film forming temperature so does not require addition of any coalescing agent. Extenders and Opaque Polymer Primal SF-208ER can be formulated with any common extenders in a broad range of PVC s. The use of ROPAQUE Ultra E Organic Opacifier can help reduce the amount of titanium dioxide, thus formulation cost without affecting dry film appearance and resistance characteristics. Biocides Although standard in can preservatives could be used in paint formulations, it is always recommended to test them for compatibility and efficacy. As in can preservatives, we recommend the use of ROCIMA MB2X Biocide. If PRIMAL SF-208ER Binder is used in wet rooms, it is suggested to use a film preservative like BIOBAN 350 Polymer Shielded Technology. Aldehyde releasing biocides should be avoided since they can affect the performance of paint films based on PRIMAL SF-208ER. Page: 2 of 5 PRIMAL SF-208ER Binder / Dow Coating Materials Rev 1.
