The DB2 Database Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance including upgrades and patch management, implementation of backup and recovery policies, and monitoring of the existing and proposed DB2 environments on z/os and Windows platforms, including access to DB2 via DB2Connect software. Duties & Responsibilities Indicate % of time spent and indicate with an * the duties & responsibilities that are essential functions of this job. Arrange this list of duties in order of importance. Plan, develop and implement information technology solutions for the SAP/R3 to meet the University s needs in regards to enterprise database requirements including designing new or modifying existing systems and providing technical guidance and support. Plan, develop, and implement system adaptations; set priorities, schedule tasks, resolve problems, identify training & documentation requirements, and provide status reports as needed with an emphasis on providing a collaborative, stable, user-friendly computing environment. Provide technical consultation for clients at varied organizational levels to develop and evaluate system requirements. This includes setting obtainable time lines that take into account the needs of all of our clients. Plans develop and implement DB2Connect software for all clients. Work closely with operating systems programmers, other database administrators, storage and performance administrators, data security, computer operations, and application programming staff in support of open systems environments and related products. % of Time 55 * 25 * 1 Essen tial Functi ons

Research problems/needs and arrive at valid solutions anticipating the effect of contingencies. Monitor system performance and apply maintenance as needed to provide the most efficient systems possible. Maintain appropriate documentation for systems and subsystems. Work to ensure implementation of best practice operations, system 20 * documentation and offsite high availability/disaster recovery. Assist in DB2 database migrations and deployment of new systems. Zone Definition Factors Nature/Complexity of Work The position requires an individual that works with considerable independence, initiative, and exercises sound judgment in accomplishing professional IT functions and objectives. Complexity of work is high. Design and implementation of beginning to end solutions must fit into team and system architecture and requires a high level of communication and coordination. Currency of technical knowledge is necessary in order to adapt and respond to dynamic needs. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills when working with UNCSN customers and DB2 developers. External deadlines are the most important factor when working with UNCSN customers. This position must have the ability to visualize, architect, and manage the implementation of complex DB2 and Batch procedures and processes that are appropriate to handle the growth of SAP, University and Nebraska State College DB2 needs. Must have a desire to learn other DBMS and Operating System platforms. Problem Solving/Decision-making This position must demonstrate experience in creating and troubleshooting enterprise services that necessitate the understanding of the complex interactions among applications, databases, server operating systems, internet/network protocols, and client configurations. Decision-making requires the ability to determine accuracy and relevance of information and the impact it may have system wide. This position will implement and maintain DB2 and DB2 Connect software assuring the needs of the clients are met. Communicate changes and explain the technical issues as they arise. Problems must be resolved quickly as not to impact availability of SAP and other application infrastructures. Technical Know How DB2 Database Administration for various version levels of IBM DB2 database software and related products. Experience in a mainframe environment including MVS, VSAM, VTAM, JCL, TSO, ISPF, RE, File Manager, etc Must have a keen understanding of application and data security issues surrounding such an environment; and must be familiar with other DB2 database management tools. Storage management in z/os operating systems environment. Working knowledge of state-of-the-art database management techniques, including application performance monitoring and tuning, Structured Query Language, relational database design techniques. Support large RDBMS (DB2) in a 24x7 environment. Leadership Full life cycle technical and project leadership of the deployment and support of high-availability, high-volume and enterprise-class environments. This position works across high-tech levels of the organization with the skills necessary to maintain agility and to make critical decisions under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Interactions Relationships with various entities both internal and external to the University are involved. The ability to establish credibility at all levels within the organization and build problem-solving partnerships with the multiple clients and colleagues is important. This position receives direct, Supervision* from Operating Systems. {*This is based on level of proficiency and years of service.} Minimum Qualifications Education: Master s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or MIS related field OR consideration may be given to a U.S. Bachelor degree or foreign equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science or MIS related field with five years of progressive experience in database administration. Work experience required: 3+ years of experience supporting DB2 databases; 3+ years of experience with database performance tuning and database reporting; 3+ years of experience with z/os operating technologies. In addition one must have experience with planning, designing, implementing, and supporting a large enterprise DB2 database environments under High Availability technologies; familiarity with database performance tuning, SQL tuning, reporting and data analysis; a good understanding of multi-tier and high-transaction web/internet applications; and experience with Enterprise Monitoring tools, Change Management and Incident Management. Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written (English) communications skills to expresses information (ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (example: technical use versus business use, sensitive or controversial information) in addition to making clear and convincing oral presentations. 3
