MEGANIZER High-Pressure Homogenizers For Process and Product Safety
Reliable diaphragm pump concept for leak-proof homogenization The MEGANIZER from Bran+Luebbe is designed to meet industry requirements for cost efficiency and product safety. MEGANIZERS use the latest diaphragm technology to provide superior operation compared to traditional plunger pump technology. With the patented MEGANIZER, Bran+Luebbe are offering a completely sealed and durable machine to improve productivity and environmental safety. Product contamination due to seal wear or the possible hazardous effects of bacteria penetrating the product chamber (a key factor in sanitary applications) are a thing of the past with the MEGANIZER. Unexpected production outages due to product leakage are eliminated. PTFE - diaphragms Metal diaphragms A physiologically harmless, pure hydraulic fluid provides excellent lubrication for the piston sealing system which is separated from the process fluid by a double PTFE diaphragm arrangement, thus providing an hermetically sealed system. The diaphragm works freely in the product chamber controlled by the Bran+Luebbe position control system. This advanced system automatically compensates for volume losses in the hydraulic chamber. The design is equipped with a condition monitoring system which provides an indication if the diaphragm should become damaged. For more demanding applications, metal diaphragms are available which follow the same principle of operation as that used for PTFE diaphragms. With a flow rate of up to 3,500 l/h per pump head, maximum operating pressure of 1,000 bar and a temperature range of 20 C to +150 C, the MEGANIZER can cover a wide range of applications. Better product quality A high-pressure pump brings an emulsion (liquid/liquid) or a suspension (solid/liquid) up to pressures of 1,000 bar. The compression energy is used to accelerate the liquid at a high rate in the annular gap of a downstream homogenisation unit. Homogenization units Optimized unit geometries are available for different applications, for example the classical flat or cone unit for the production of oil-in-water emulsions or the highly wear-resistant PCD------ unit with surfaces made of polycrystalline diamond. The essential factors for particle reduction are turbulence, shear, high-energy jet streams, but mainly cavitation caused by abrupt pressure release. Two-stage and/or multiple homogenization are used depending on the application. Advantages of diaphragm technology Homogenisztion principle Leak-proof high-pressure pump with high resistance to corrosion for universal application. Safe homogenization of suspensions. Diaphragm damage due to trapped solids is avoided by a new design of diaphragm clamp. Vacuum mode possible. Environmentally safe due to multi-layer diaphragm and diaphragm condition monitoring. Metal diaphragm satisfies highest sealing requirements with regard to diffusion. Diaphragm life can be 20,000 operating hours or more. Diaphragm pump head Product before homogenization Product after homogenization Two-stage homogenizing unit MEGANIZER pump technology Applications Advantages Meganizer with three pump heads and two-stage homogenisation unit - foodstuffs industry design MEGANIZER incorporates well proven high pressure pump units from the Bran+Luebbe NOVAPLEX process and Novados metering pump ranges to produce the necessary compression energy. The homogenisation pressure is achieved through the use of hydraulics which incorporates a maximum pressure limit as standard to prevent overloading of the system Designs with capacities up to 30 m 3 /h are available with process temperature range of between -20 C and +150 C, and dependant upon equipment size and configuration, pressures up to 1,000 bar can be accommodated. Paraffin, silicone, wax, oil, photo emulsions Latex, PVC, lubricants, polishes Lotions, creams, liposomes Cell disruption, proteins, enzymes Fruit products, ketchup, sauces, dressings Baby food, ice cream, cordials, dairy products Intravenous preparations Fine dispersion of a dispersed phase in a continuous phase (e.g. oil in water) Reduction of phase separation Increased efficiency of emulsifiers and stabilizers Change in viscosity Disintegration of tissues and microorganisms Acceleration of reactions by creating larger exchange areas
Modular drive concept The modular drive concept enables multiplex homogenizers to be designed with up to seven pump heads. This enables the operator to adapt the system to the desired flow rate very easily; subsequent adjustment is also possible. MEGANIZER drive units either have integrated or external reduction gearboxes. The external speed reduction with commercial, low-maintenance reducing gears, like the internal speed reduction with Bran+Luebbe s high efficiency, low noise gears ensures low-noise operation with minimum energy expenditure. A choice of drives are available including electric or hydraulic motors, which can be used to vary the flow rate by the use of speed adjustment devices. Continuous adjustment of the flow rate is provided by using variable speed designs of these systems.
