Drainage and Elastic bases for synthetic pitches
HORIZONTAL DRAINAGE SYSTEM FOR ARTIFICIAL TURF PITCHES TERRADRAIN FOOTBALL A high performance planar geocomposite specially designed for the drainage system beneath artificial turf pitches, to replace the traditional solution of aggregates and drainage pipes. TERRADRAIN FOOTBALL also provides excellent elastic and rebound performance that are crucial for the safety of sportspeople using the pitch. Predictable ball behaviour and year round operation of the facility are additional advantages. These characteristics, together with the innovation and production capabilities of Maccaferri BIS Division, enable TERRADRAIN FOOTBALL to comply with the strict technical requirements of the F.I.G.C. LND (Italian F.A. National Amateur League) for artificial turf football pitches. Terradrain Football High drainage capacity and excellent resistance to compression during the laying of the artificial turf associate members Quick and easy to install, no need to move soil or gravel on the worksite Fitted in over 450 pitches in Italy and elsewhere Approval in compliance with the new F.I.G.C. LND regulations CE marking
THE TRADITIONAL DRAINAGE SYSTEM WITH AGGREGATE Previously, the only system available to drain rainwater from artificial turf pitches consisted of a number of underlying levels of aggregate of differing sizes, each serving a different purpose (from the top: sand, grit, crushed stone and finally ballast). The overall aggregate thickness can vary between 21 and 44 cm and the minimum permissible permeability is 1x10-4 m/s (360 mm/h). These levels create an initial route for rainwater to drain away downwards, where it fills the voids in the aggregate. Given the main direction of the flow, this system is referred to in the models of the commissioning body (LND) as a Vertical Drainage Foundation. Once the aggregate is saturated, a system of trenches with drainage tubes under the ballast allows the water to be directed to drainage pipes and perimeter collectors. drainage solution with aggregates. The high void-ratio and structural channels parallel to the flow direction make TERRADRAIN FOOTBALL an efficient system to rapidly drain water to the long-sides of the pitch. Water filtering through the artificial turf is quickly conducted to the pitch boundaries, where it is collected in prefabricated channels, capped with protective gratings. MAIN FEATURES Lower costs for the work in terms of material, labour and installation High drainage capacity and excellent resistance to compression Shorter installation time Rolls extremely practical and easy to handle on the worksite Rolls made to measure for the exact dimensions of the pitch Extremely flexible Perfect impact absorption Working lifespan of over 25 years Recyclable product that does not release pollutants into the water Advantages AGGREGATE Fewer vehicles entering the worksite Less time required to create the foundation TERRADRAIN Excellent drainage capacity Overall project costs 5 4 3 2 1 6 8 7 Key: 1 Artificial turf 2 TERRADRAIN FOOTBALL 3 Polyethylene membrane 4 Bedding layer 5 Compact stabilized material 6 Natural soil 7 Collector (ø 160 mm) 8 Prefabricated channel with galvanized grating
Laying technique Once the bed layer has been created with the appropriate gradients, lay the waterproof membrane longitudinally (see fig.1), overlapping each piece with the next by approximately 15 cm in a roof tile system, working from the two sides of the pitch to the centre. Next, lay the TERRADRAIN FOOTBALL drainage geocomposite perpendicular to the previous layer (see fig.2), placing the sheets alongside each other and securing them with mechanical means. Finally, lay the artificial turf (see fig. 3-4) and soak it thoroughly (see fig. 5). 1 2 3 4 5 preparation for laying installation of TERRADRAIN FOOTBALL and synthetic turf turf saturation with sand turf saturation with infill combing of the field
