Achieve effective working relationships with colleagues in bus/coach engineering and maintenance Overview This unit is about achieving effective positive working relationships with your colleagues and recognising the importance of equality and diversity in the workplace. You should know and understand the effects of negative behaviour on working relationships. Effective communication with colleagues is an important part of this unit. This unit consists of three elements: 1. Achieve effective working relationships with your colleagues This element is about how you behave professionally and socially towards your colleagues. This should be in a way that maintains goodwill in the workplace. This will include how you respond to colleagues and give help or information. These colleagues include your co-workers, supervisors or managers, and possibly trainees. Any actions agreed with colleagues should not negatively affect your own work, should be within the limits of your responsibility and completed within the agreed timescale. You should know how to get help to resolve actual or potential problems with working relationships. 2. Achieve effective communications with your colleagues This element is about how you communicate with your colleagues in a positive way that helps you and them to work effectively. This means that you will be able to get and give information in written, verbal or electronic formats as appropriate to your work. You will also need to be able to get information that meets your needs, and provide information that meets the needs of your colleagues. You will need to know the limits of your authority and responsibility relating to getting and giving information. You should know how to get help to resolve any actual or potential problems you may have in communicating with colleagues. 3. Promote equality and diversity in the workplace This element is about promoting equality and diversity in the workplace. Your behaviour, words and actions should promote equality and diversity. You should know and understand your statutory obligations and your organisation s policy on equality and diversity. This unit is for all those who work in a bus/coach workshop or environment.
