Cattle THE HARVEY BEEF GATE 2 PLATE FEEDLOT CHALLENGE Rules and Regulations Cattle are to be entered in a team of three which must consist of two steers and one heifer. Points from all three animals will be combined to identify the overall winning group. The cattle you enter must: be owner bred not currently or at any time have had HGP s (hormone growth promotant s) implanted not be in-calf have had both testicles completely removed (stags will not be accepted) be either polled or dehorned with no regrowth with sharp edges or in excess of 3cm. Animals that have been dehorned must be healed at the time of induction. Animals not meeting these requirements will be rejected from the competition. It is the owners responsibility to select cattle at an appropriate entry weight, condition and age to ensure they will meet the processors specifications. The suggested entry weight is 330 350 kg. If any animal in the competition requires, on veterinary advice, antibiotic or other treatment to ensure its welfare throughout the duration of the competition, the cost of those treatments, will be removed from the final value of the carcass paid to the owner. Throughout the competition if, on veterinary advice, an animal must be removed from the competition for any reason it is the responsibility of the owner to collect the animal and remove it from the feedlot as soon as possible. If at feedlot entry, on feedlot managers advice, any animal is judged to be not fit for feedlot finishing that animal will be withdrawn from the competition. It is the responsibility of the owner to collect the animal and remove it from the saleyards / feedlot as soon as possible. If, at the point of final weighing, on stock agents advice, any animal is not deemed fit for slaughter, that animal will be withdrawn from the competition. It is the responsibility of the owner to collect the animal and remove it from the feedlot as soon as possible. Points Induction Points will be deducted if on arrival at the saleyards cattle are not tagged correctly with the ear tags provided by the Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge Committee. These tags will be posted to competitors after the entry closing date.

Feedlot performance Points awarded based on average daily gain (ADG) and animal health. Higher points will be awarded for higher ADG and points will be deducted for animals requiring treatment for illness. Profitability Points will be awarded based the ability of the animals to meet the processor specifications (stated below) and profitability of the animal through the supply chain. Specifications for cattle at point of processing Type British and European Breeds Carcass Weight 210-285kg (dressed) Fat 4-17mm Dentition 0-2 teeth Cattle must be HGP (hormone growth promotant) FREE Carcass quality Points will be awarded based on MSA grading. Consistency Points will be allocated for consistency of performance within the group. Entries Entry fees cover all costs associated with grain finishing cattle in a normal commercial situation including feedlot costs, transport, management tags and induction medications. Entries close Monday 17 th November 2014. Entry fee: $1349 (inc. GST) per group. Please make cheques payable to Albany Agricultural Society Inc. Post entries to The Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge, Albany Agricultural Society Inc., PO Box 392, Albany, 6331. Entries may be hand delivered to the Albany Agricultural Society Office, Centennial Oval, Albany. No emailed or faxed entries will be accepted. No entries will be accepted without payment. No entries will be accepted unless the entry form has been signed. NO refunds will be given under any circumstances. Places in the competition are limited. Entries will be accepted on a strictly first come first served basis. A minimum number of entries are required for the competition to go ahead. You will be informed within two weeks of the closing date if the competition will not be proceeding based on insufficient entries.

Payments The value of the carcasses paid will be based on commercial pricing at the time of processing. Payments to participants for the value of carcasses will be processed by Landmark. If you are not already a client of Landmark you must fill in the attached landmark forms to set up a temporary account for the challenge and provide your bank details for payments to be made. Participants must ensure they provide the correct bank details. It is the participants responsibility to notify Landmark immediately if their bank account details change between submitting the entry form and receiving the payment. The amount received by participants will be the value of the processed cattle at the end of the competition minus: cost of any additional treatments (e.g. antibiotics) deemed necessary, on veterinary advice, to maintain the welfare of the animals during the competition cost of the Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge dinner for those who have indicated on the entry form that they wish to attend agent commission transport insurance abattoir costs levies any other associated costs By entering cattle in this competition you agree that the Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge Committee have access to the MSA grading information on your carcasses for the purpose of allocating points. You must indicate you agree to this by ticking the box on the entry form. Logistics Animals must arrive at the Mount Barker Regional Saleyards at the following times. Cattle arriving out of these time zones will NOT be accepted. Date Cattle must arrive between Wednesday 14 th January 2015 8am and 5pm Thursday 15 th January 2015 6am and 10am The owner is responsible for the organisation and cost of transporting the animals to the Mount Barker Regional Saleyards. All cattle movements on the NLIS database will be completed by saleyard staff. Cattle will be transferred onto the saleyard PIC and then onto the Albany Agricultural Society PIC on transfer to the feedlot. Please use PIC number WJSY0002 on the NVD. On arrival at the saleyards cattle must: fulfil all the usual requirements and regulations of cattle arriving at Mount Barker Regional Saleyards including:

Cattle must have a functional NLIS tag. Cattle must be accompanied by a correctly completed National Vendor Declaration (NVD). Please use PIC number WJSY0002 on the NVD. Animals not fulfilling these requirements will be unable to commence the competition. A yard fee per day will be charged until the animal is removed from the saleyards. be in an appropriate state of health to commence and complete the competition as judged by an onsite veterinary officer. Owners of animals which, on veterinary advice, are not deemed fit to commence or complete the duration of the competition will be notified. It will be the responsibility of the owner to remove the animal from the Mount Barker Regional Saleyards as soon as possible. A yard fee per day will be charged for these animals. be tagged with the management ear tags provided by the Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge Committee on arrival at the saleyards. (The tags will be posted to you after entries close). Cattle that are not correctly tagged with the competition tags on arrival at the saleyards will have points deducted. All cattle will receive the following medications on arrival at the yards: Bovi-Shield MH-One Vaccine; 5:1 vaccine; Dectomax Injectable; Multimin, fly treatment. Any other vaccinations or treatments deemed necessary by the owner of the cattle must be completed before the commencement of the competition. Points will be deducted for animals requiring additional health treatments on the feedlot. Cattle will remain at the Mount Barker Regional Saleyards on hay and water for five days after which they will be trucked to Willyung Farms Feedlot and begin the grain ration. The ration will be approved by an accredited nutritionist as being suitable for growing and preparing cattle to meet the destination market specifications. No competitors are to arrive unannounced at Willyung Farms Feedlot. Cattle will be able to be viewed at the mid feed open day (details below). Competitors arriving unannounced at the feedlot will have points deducted and will be removed from the competition. Mid Feed Open Day As a participant in the competition you will receive free entry to the Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge mid-feed field day. The day will be an opportunity for participants of the competition to view their animals half way through the grain feeding period and meet other participants involved in the competition. More details about the mid feed open day will be sent to you nearer the time. Dinner and Awards night The dinner and awards night will take place on Friday 22 nd May 2015 at Southern End Restaurant and Function Centre, Denmark. Unfortunately due to limited space only two members of each business entering the competition will be able to attend. Please indicate in the space provided on the entry form if you wish to

reserve a place at the dinner. The cost of the dinner will be deducted from the final value of the carcass paid to the owner. Disclaimer The Albany Agricultural Society Inc., Willyung Farms feedlot, the Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge Committee and associated employees and volunteers will use all reasonable care and skill to ensure the animals health and safety, however the Albany Agricultural Society, Willyung Farms feedlot, the Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge Committee and associated employees and volunteers accept no responsibility for any loss or damage to any animal, person or property as a result of entering into this competition and all entrants acknowledge that entry is at their own risk, cost and exposure. The Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge Committee has the right to decline any entry into this competition and reject any entry for any reason whatsoever and the Committees decision in this respect shall be final. No discussions or correspondence will be entered into with the Harvey Beef Gate 2 Plate Feedlot Challenge Committee regarding reasons for any declines or rejections. The competition organisers reserve unto itself the right at any time, without being liable for any loss or damage which may be sustained to alter, postpone the date of the competition or cancel the same or to change the venue of the competition.
