A History of Expertise in the Crane and Hoist Industry Rockwell Automation Drive Systems is no newcomer to the crane and hoist industry. Over the last 60 years, we ve been responsible for many of the industry s milestone achievements. Beginning in 1940, we became a major supplier of marine-rated cargo winches for the U.S. Navy. In the 1950s we introduced the step-less solid-state generator control for cargo winches. Fast-forward to the 1980s, we perfected programmable controllers coupled to thyristor power units for use on both sea-going vessels and land-based cranes. Today, Rockwell Automation Drive Systems is providing more advanced solutions for the crane and hoist industry from locations around the world. We are using our expanded global focus to support portal cranes throughout Europe, South America and Asia. Partnering with Global OEMs Rockwell Automation is a strategic partner with a world-class OEM in a project awarded by the U.S. Navy. Rockwell Automation supplies the equipment, engineering and support for the control and drive systems for portal cranes. The United States Navy demands highly rigid standards to ensure the best quality, noted a representative of the OEM. Our alliance with Rockwell Automation will help us meet these high standards as we execute the entire process of design, manufacturing and installation. Rockwell Automation is the only source providing 4:1 constant-horsepower speed range for AC-drives on tower construction crane applications. Productivity has improved at every customer construction site using the technology. CranePro Rockwell Automation s CranePro is the industries most complete crane management system. This RSView -based system includes: Human Machine Interface (HMI) Package Graphic based operator interface Alarm and event handling Online application troubleshooting Trends up to 1,000 variables continuously at an average 70 msec or better Maintain at least one month s data Production Logging Track and log all container movement Generates production history reports Analyze shift efficiency Maintenance System Track running hours Generate work orders Track maintenance history Complete remote troubleshooting capability Security System Control crane entry Set up crane operator profiles Maintain access history Improve Your Crane s Operational Productivity By Up to 30% Did you know that compensating for sway can occupy more than 30% of the average cycle time in crane operation? That s why Rockwell Automation Drive Systems Minimum Time/Motion, or MTM, anti-sway system, will mean more productivity for ports that employ it. The MTM anti-sway system using the patented Wagner/VIT technology communicates with the control processors over the backplane, and is optimized to work with Rockwell Automation drive and control components. The result is a significant improvement in container-handling cycle time that can also result in measurable improvements in port trade and ship time. The MTM system automatically determines the correct mathematical solution to the anti-sway problem in real time. Then it offers a nearly optimal, maximum-velocity/minimum-time solution that works smoothly even when trolley and hoist operations occur simultaneously and safely in all circumstances. And because the control algorithms are feed-forward only, expensive sway sensors aren t needed. Adding the anti-sway system to most existing installations is easy. Contact us and we ll send an experienced applications engineer to your site. We ll evaluate your existing installation, and provide a detailed proposal for adding this feature to your crane for increased productivity and profitabiltiy.
The Forefront of Technology The key to a superior drive system is not only expertise and commitment, but also using a provider in control of its own technology. Rockwell Automation offers more than 500,000 products to solve your application challenges. Because we design and manufacture AC and DC drives, servo drives, motors and controllers, we can customize our world class products to match performance to the application. We verify interoperability in our System Evaluation Lab not in the field so you can be confident your system will perform as promised. And every day, more than 300 scientists and engineers push the frontiers of automation technology at the Rockwell Science Center. Creating cutting-edge solutions with world-class technology. That s Rockwell Automation Drive Systems. Our semiconductor research allows us to incorporate advanced proven, costeffective technology into our drive products. It also lets us reduce product size while increasing functionality.
