TacTiles Installation System
Break Free From Glue Make the move toward a glue-free world with the TacTiles Installation System from InterfaceFLOR. We pioneered flooring flexibility with modular carpet. Now our TacTiles installation system creates the next generation of installation by offering convenient installation, as well as easy replacement and reclamation. The original TacTiles connector, designed exclusively for the installation of InterfaceFLOR carpet tile backed with GlasBac or GlasBacRE. A new TacTiles connector, designed exclusively for the installation of InterfaceFLOR carpet tile backed with Graphlar and Graphlex. (Graphlex available only in Europe.)
MINIMIZE DISRUPTION Because TacTiles connectors contain no liquid components, the use of them virtually eliminates the issue of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). So they can be installed almost anywhere at anytime making carpet installation convenient for you. Take control of your life, your office and your floor. Do the right thing. Ditch glue. TacTiles connectors meet LEED requirements for Low Emitting Materials Adhesives and Sealants (based on SCAQMD Rule #1168 VOC Limit for Indoor Carpet Adhesives of 50g/L, less water). TacTiles connectors are adhered to the corners of InterfaceFLOR carpet tiles. You can install InterfaceFLOR carpet tile with TacTiles connectors almost anywhere at anytime.
TAKE CONTROL With the TacTiles installation system, you can create a durable installation of InterfaceFLOR carpet tiles over your existing floor* without permanent adhesion. TacTiles connectors adhere tiles to one another, creating a "floating floor making for easy installation, removal and replacement. So whether you re updating the entire 17th floor, creating an area rug or replacing a couple of tiles, you ll get dimensional strength with individual flexibility. With non-releasable full spread glues, tiles are permanently stuck to the floor and thus require digging up the carpet when it s time to replace. This may damage the substrate beneath, leaving battle scars no floor should endure. Not to mention, it doesn t give you the freedom and control that a glue-free modular floor can provide. *Not recommended for installation over existing carpet. Be sure to test for moisture and install MoistureGard 2.0 as needed. Reference InterfaceFLOR s detailed Installation Instructions for details. Use TacTiles connectors to install area rugs in addition to wall-to-wall installations. Unlike with non-releasable full spread glue, TacTiles connectors adhere carpet tiles to one another, not the floor. Thus, a TacTiles installation does not require digging up the flooring for removal and replacement, alleviating future labor cost and potential damage to existing substrates.
STAY STRONG Being pulled by the dark and sticky side? Don t sweat it the TacTiles installation system by InterfaceFLOR has you and your floor covered. It all started more than 30 years ago when InterfaceFLOR introduced free-lay tile capabilities to North America. And now with more than three decades of proven performance, only InterfaceFLOR s dimensionally stable backing can provide the groundwork for your newfound freedom. Designed to grab the floor for wall-to-wall applications, as well as for area rugs, the mold and mildew-resistant backing doesn t upcurl or buckle. Use of the TacTiles installation system allows for individual tile flexibility yet magnifies InterfaceFLOR s backing strength as the InterfaceFLOR tiles unite to provide unsurpassed flooring performance. All this helps maintain your flooring investment, as well as endure hedging, heavy foot traffic and even office reconfigurations. Are you a believer yet? The TacTiles system provides a blanket of strength while maintaining individual tile flexibility. Even furniture moving and other office reconfigurations won t impact your installation.
BE GOOD TO THE ENVIRONMENT At InterfaceFLOR, every creative, manufacturing and building decision we make is intended to move us closer to eliminating any negative impact our company may have on our environment. As part of this mission, we ve been reclaiming carpet since 1994 through our ReEntry Carpet Reclamation program. In fact, we ve reclaimed over 167 million pounds to date. ReEntry 2.0, the latest evolution of our program, allows us to reclaim all types of carpet (broadloom and tile, commercial and residential) regardless of face fiber or backing type, keeping even more waste out of landfills and further reducing our reliance on virgin raw materials. InterfaceFLOR recycles reclaimed and separated GlasBac and GlasBacRE backings, including TacTiles connectors, into new carpet tile backing using our Cool Blue technology. What s more, the TacTiles system generates less waste during installation, and has an environmental footprint that is over 90% lower than that of traditional glue. So InterfaceFLOR meets its environmental mission while you eliminate the sticky mess of glue. Talk about a win-win. InterfaceFLOR carpet tile, along with TacTiles connectors, can be reclaimed and recycled through InterfaceFLOR s ReEntry 2.0.
RELY ON EXPERIENCE With more than 35 years of laying the foundation for North America s flooring, InterfaceFLOR s dimensionally stable GlasBac backing has stood the test of time. It s the backbone of functionality, strength and freedom. And it s infused with Intersept, a proprietary antimicrobial preservative built into the carpet to protect it against mold, mildew, bacteria and odor-causing microorganisms. In other words, InterfaceFLOR s GlasBac backing system ensures a long lasting modular carpet tile installation. TacTiles connectors are now also available for our Graphlar backing system, which is standard on the Flor and Super Flor styles made by InterfaceFLOR in Europe and available here. Like GlasBac, Graphlar has a long history of performance and stability. *Be sure to use the proper version of TacTiles connectors for the GlasBac and GlasBacRE or Graphlar backed InterfaceFLOR carpet tile you re installing. Only InterfaceFLOR s free-lay backing capabilities can provide the groundwork for the revolutionary TacTiles installation system.

TacTiles Installation System FAQ Sheet Q What floor prep is required prior to installing with TacTiles? A The TacTiles Installation System is an alternative to traditional adhesive. The floor prep requirements are the same as those for adhesive. Q Do you still need to conduct moisture and ph tests? A Yes. Moisture and ph conditions may impact the carpet. The absence of adhesive does not eliminate the need to test. Q Is TacTiles Installation System a solution to slabs with high moisture and/or ph? A TacTiles alone are not a long-term solution to high moisture and ph. But TacTiles are part of a new installation system, along with MoistureGard 2.0, to solve high moisture and ph. Please contact the Interface Americas help desk at 877.733.7403 for details. Q If I use TacTiles connectors do I need to encapsulate the old adhesive? A It depends on the adhesive type: a. IF the adhesive type is a water based acrylic (similar to 2000 Green Glue or 2300 NexStep glue) you can install with TacTiles over the existing adhesive. Be aware that the existing adhesive will probably still have tack and will adhere to the carpet tile. b. IF the adhesive type is unknown or a type that is not compatible (broadloom, cutback or solvent based) the existing adhesive needs to be removed/reduced and the residue encapsulated before installing with TacTiles connectors. Q What about heavy rolling loads with TacTiles? A The TacTiles installation sysyem is designed to be strong enough for heavy loads with the application of one TacTiles connector on each corner per the installation instructions. However, due to variable weight distribution for heavy rolling loads, InterfaceFLOR recommends contacting the Interface Help Desk at 877.733.7403. Q Can I use TacTiles when installing with a lift system? A TacTiles work great when installing with a lift system. The TacTiles connector fit easily under the tile corners in tight situations. Q Can I install carpet using the TacTiles Installation Sysyem in areas where forklift traffic is present? A No. TacTiles connectors are not recommended to install InterfaceFLOR modular carpet in areas where forklifts are used. Q Can I use TacTiles connectors to install any carpet? A TacTiles are specifically engineered to be compatible with InterfaceFLOR modular carpet with GlasBac, GlasBacRE, and Graphlar backing, and are only available when purchasing them. Be sure to use the correct TacTiles connector product for the backing type. Q Can TacTiles connectors be used on stairs, ramps, or inclines? A No. Q Can I install with TacTiles connectors over hardwood or other decorative flooring and come back later and remove the carpet without damaging the floor underneath? A Probably not. Even though no adhesive is being spread on the floor, there is still the remote chance for some discoloration from the backing over time. Q How does the TacTiles system work with raised panel systems? A TacTiles are a great alternative for raised panel installation. When it is necessary to access a panel, you only need to pull the carpet from the TacTiles connector or cut through the joint and roll the carpet section back. Once complete just place the carpet back into place and apply a new TacTiles connector if necessary. If the underfloor air system uses the space beneath the floor as a pressurized plenum, InterfaceFLOR recommends contacting the Interface Americas help desk at 877.733.7403.
