Job Description Job Title: Reports to: Dean of Nursing FLSA Status: Exempt Level: 213 Position Class: Job Summary: The Simulation Center Manager is responsible for planning and implementing the major programs of simulation training and the overall functions of operations of the center. The Manager reports to and supports the Dean of Nursing with general business and administrative services, including business planning, market research, promotion of the Center, development of business opportunities, preparation of expenditures, procurement planning, and schedule planning. The Manager develops simulations and all logistics associated with program planning to support and maintain each event. The Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of the center. This includes: equipment and supplies procurement, daily scheduling of users, operations of simulations and all support equipment, coordinating multiple activities supporting simulation events, set up and preparation of support equipment and detailed requirements for each event, and maintenance of all equipment at the Lakewood Ranch Simulation Center and Venice Simulation Lab. Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates new courses, scenarios, and educational initiatives in collaboration with content experts. 2. Supports the nursing faculty in the development of nursing course curricula with appropriate faculty. Standardizes simulation event curriculum documentation as much as Page 1 of 6

possible. Supports development with technical knowledge of the Simulation Center capabilities and procedures to ensure that simulation event curricula are accurate and appropriate. 3. Develops strategies to enhance programs and services, utilizing available resources and acquiring additional tools or equipment to create a realistic learning environment. 4. Solicits instructor and student feedback following simulation experiences to analyze the impact of simulation on the learning process. 5. Identifies opportunities for improvement, innovation, implementation and integration of patient simulation technology into existing healthcare curricula. 6. Mentors faculty in the use of simulation/simulators. 7. Determines Simulation Center priorities and goals in accordance with the college mission. 8. Develops and implements policies, procedures and practice standards to support the Simulation Center goals, and educational objectives of the nursing and continuing education programs. 9. Provides the leadership required to ensure that simulation programs meet standards of quality assurance for scope and depth of education, and user expectations. 10. Develops working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff and students within the college as well as with other simulation centers, community healthcare providers, and educational organizations. 11. Coordinates the scheduling of simulation events among users by establishing trends of high need. 12. Collaborates with LWR Simulation/Skills Lab Faculty to schedule the Medical Simulation & Technology Center Nursing Skills Lab and Assessment Lab. 13. Supervises preventative maintenance of equipment according to manufacturers recommendations. Monitors and schedules maintenance to ensure that equipment is operational. 14. Provides in-depth knowledge and experience of all equipment to troubleshoot and determine common issues to report to customer service for repairs. Provides hands on technical support to make repairs on all equipment with phone support from the manufacturer to minimize down time. 15. Implements software and hardware updates provided by equipment and software suppliers. 16. Manages, maintains, and reorders all inventory supplies to support simulation events. 17. Obtains quotes, and makes purchasing decisions based on simulation support needs. Page 2 of 6

18. Researches and develops relationships with vendors for supplies and equipment. 19. Conducts tours of the facility and has simulation equipment functional for select groups. 20. Provides oversight and management for Simulation support and Equipment, which includes; basic maintenance, upkeep and repair of all simulation equipment, including audiovisual support equipment, mannequins, simulation computer equipment, Virtual IV Arm system, meddispense automated medication dispensing system, METI Vision, and other medical equipment. 21. Provides basic maintenance, upkeep and repair of mannequins and simulation computer equipment. 22. Provides basic maintenance, upkeep, and repair of medical equipment. 23. Manages the upkeep of simulation equipment after each simulation event. 24. Develops, maintains and prepares all simulation support materials, applications, props, and moulage for each simulation event. 25. Starts the simulation computers/system, initiates appropriate pre-design scenario(s), operates the simulation in compliance with predetermined learning objectives, closes scenario, and reinitializes system in a timely and effective manner for next session. 26. Operates cameras to capture video feed for each session and labels for archiving. Education/Experience: Bachelor s degree in health care discipline, information technology, or related field and five (5) years of relevant experience. Master s degree in health care discipline, information technology, or related field preferred. Supervisory Experience: Experience managing a simulation center is preferred. Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional/scientific journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and Page 3 of 6

to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to work with formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc. Computer Skills Intermediate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, Internet and e- mail. Additional knowledge of discipline specific software. Must be proficient in current College e-mail, databases and other College required software. Must remain current with technology changes. Certificates and Licenses None Responsibility for People and Property: This position is responsible for the human patient simulators and all support equipment. Responsibility for Communication: Internal Contacts This position has routine contact with all levels of SCF staff. Routine contact with students in the Simulation Center. External Contacts This position has occasional contact with prospective students, special interest groups and community agencies. Occasional contract with parents, high school counselors and faculty and vendors. Occasional contact with local businesses and industry.
