Indicates a required action. CRITICAL Indicates a vital component to product performance. Pallet Gate Product Information I. General Information A. This manual contains information regarding installation, operation, and maintenance of the PS DOORS Pallet Gate, all models. B. The Pallet Gate is designed to meet Federal OSHA requirements for standard railings, for dimensions and loading CFR 1910.23(e). C. PS DOORS recommends that the owner implement a regular maintenance program to inspect the Pallet Gate as necessary. NOTICE This product is manufactured to specific guidelines. Unauthorized alteration in any way will result in voiding Factory Warranty, and may cause product to fail with potential serious consequences. Accordingly, if the product requires service after unauthorized modification, you can expect any request for warranty repair to be charged to you. Authorized modifications, received in writing from PS DOORS, as long as the modification is accomplished strictly in accordance with PS DOORS instructions, does not void warranty. To request product modifications contact PS DOORS. II. Storage Prior To Installation of Product A. Store materials in a dry, ventilated location. If outdoor storage is required, block materials and tarp in a tent-like arrangement, elevated above the product with open sides to allow airflow. NOTICE Before beginning any portion of the site preparation and installation of the Pallet Gate, read the entire Operation and Maintenance Manual and review all Installation Instructions thoroughly. III. Installation Site Preparation A. Clear work area of any debris. B. Ensure you have the necessary tools available. (Minimum recommended tools): 1. One (1) 7/16 Wrench 2. One (1) 9/16 Wrench 3. One (1) Tape Measure 4. One (1) Level 5. Additional anchoring tools may be needed specific to individual applications. IV. Installation Safety Precautions A. Comply with all OSHA Safety Regulations and/or company safety policies when installing B. Personnel: Determine the appropriate number of personnel required to perform installation and have them readily available at the project site. (2-3 people recommended) DANGER Ensure area below installation is blocked off from personnel during installation, and mounting surface is capable of supporting all loading. Structural analysis of mounting surface is the responsibility of the owner. 2

Installing Pallet Gate NOTICE Mounting Anchors Not Provided (3/8 anchors appropriate for the mounting surface are recommended). V. Installation IMPORTANT! The bumpers on the gate must be located on the side to which the material will be loaded from. (See Illustration 1.) Step 1. A. Lay out pallet gate horizontally on the floor. Assemble the pallet gate as shown below. Make sure swing direction is correct. (See Illustration 1.) B. Determine the maximum height of the material being loaded through the pallet gate. Factory locations of 66 and 78 clear opening are provided. Field drill holes if alternate height is needed. Install the cross bar as shown (See Illustration 2.) using the fasteners provided (Hex bolt 3/8 16x2-3/4, washer 3/8, and Nylock nuts 3/8 16). IMPORTANT! Be sure the tab on the cross bar is on the same side which material will be loaded from. (See Illustration 2.) The cross bar must be used in the installation. If it is determined the cross bar will not work in your application consult PS DOORS for recommendations. Do not tighten until columns have been plumbed and squared. Illustration 1. Illustration 2. Tab on cross bar Load Step 2. (Requires two people.) A. Lift pallet gate assembly into a vertical position and set into location. (See Illustration 3.) Before anchoring, be sure the gate is plumb and square with a 5/8 nominal gap between middle of gates for clearance. (See Illustration 3.) B. Attach the floor brackets of the vertical post assembly to the floor, as shown (See Illustration 4.). Anchors are not provided. IMPORTANT! Ensure that the floor bracket does not overlap the vertical face of the mounting surface. 4

Attach vertical post plate to the predetermined holes in the column with provided fasteners (Hex bolt 3/8 16x2-3/4, washer 3/8, and Nylock nuts 3/8 16). The plate can be attached on either side of the column, as necessary. Field attach the plate to the existing structure (shim as required). (See Illustrations 5. & 6.) IMPORTANT! The plate must be used in the installation. If it is determined the plate will not work in your application consult PS DOORS for recommendations. Illustration 5. Illustration 6. Field Attach 5

Top View Correct Alignment Incorrect Alignment Operation of Pallet Gate NOTICE Operation in a manner other than intended could result in damage or less than acceptable performance, for which the manufacturer will not be held responsible. Ensure opening is clear of all obstructions through the entire travel of the gate during operation. Do not force components if they do not operate freely. VI. Operation A. To Operate 1. Forklift your pallet of material through the self-closing pallet gate and back away. The gate closes up against your material effectively protecting the mezzanine edge until the material is off loaded or the pallet is removed from the opening. Then the gates spring closed, all the time protecting the opening. 6

Inspection & Maintenance VII. Inspection and Maintenance IMPORTANT! Consult parts list before replacing fasteners, as all have specific design load requirements. Only use like items for replacement. A. Pallet Gate: 1. Inspect components for damage and misalignment. Adjust, repair, or replace as needed, to meet original design tolerances. B. Fasteners and mechanical connections: 1. All fasteners must be in place and adjusted to their original design standards. Replace any damaged fasteners or connections. (refer to parts list on page 9). 2. Check all mounting connections, making sure they meet original design standards (refer to instructions). C. Finishes 1. Inspect and clean finishes periodically. 2. Touch up repair finishes, or refinish as necessary to protect the structural integrity of the product. 3. This product comes with a polyester powder coat finish. Use finish materials compatible with powder coat. Follow paint manufacturer s instructions for prep and touch-up. D. Housekeeping 1. To ensure your product continues to operate and last, upon completion of installation, complete the following: a. Clean all surfaces. b. If project is ongoing, protect installed products until completion of project. c. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged components. 2. Ensure the area is clear of debris and interferences while swinging the gates. 7

If within the term of this warranty, any Pallet Gate or component is found to be defective upon inspection by an authorized PS DOORS representative, PS DOORS will replace or repair, at PS DOORS discretion, any part found to be defective.
