Planning is all about what can be built where and the influence of social, environmental and economic considerations on physical space. RTPI planners have particular skills in spatial planning processes and techniques to influence place making and decisions over whether a development should gain planning permission. They therefore work on spatial issues including socio-environmental matters and urban design, providing specialist knowledge to clients. Training Programme Graduate Planner We offer a training programme designed to nurture and support outstanding graduates, helping you move from education to professional success. The Graduate Training Programme comprises a package of different elements, each of which is designed to assist your development. These include: A comprehensive induction to the company including Group induction event A formal training programme that will combine formal technical training and work-based learning A mix of practical experience gained by working on a variety of projects and with different teams Regular performance and development reviews to set personal and professional goals and how we can help you achieve them Dedicated mentoring throughout the programme (and thereafter) to help you achieve Chartered Membership of the RTPI and career progression Individual Development Plans to create and track your professional development and training activities to help you reach your full potential A minimum of 20 hours of training/cpd each year in various forms such as: o Work shadowing
o o o Attending internal and external CPD events Internal lunch and learn sessions Participation in networking and CPD events As a Graduate Planner, you will benefit from exposure to a wide variety of exciting, innovative and sometimes challenging projects which may include (depending on the project work of each individual Pegasus Office): Major housing schemes Large infrastructure projects Individual schemes such as self-build Housing land supply Retail Commercial & leisure scheme Renewable energy projects Working with your assigned mentor, you will develop a wide range of skills and experience as you see projects through from inception to completion. As a second year graduate you also have the opportunity to give something back by becoming a mentor to a new graduate on the scheme and become involved in the active promotion of future graduate programmes. Not only does this enhance your professional network but it also allows you to impart your knowledge onto new recruits, nurturing a mutually beneficial relationship. RTPI Pegasus recognises its commitment to ongoing training and professional accreditation and supports RTPI membership as a single professional route to chartered planning status (MRTPI), requiring a range of core and other competencies in spatial planning and planning processes. The RTPI Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) route involves working through professional development with a mentor, a log book and a written report. We encourage all our Graduate Planners to participate join/participate in the RTPI Young Planners network. We will also give you financial assistance and time off to attend external seminars and your professional subscriptions and registration fees for the RTPI are fully covered.
JOB DESCRIPTION Role Department Location Reports to Graduate Planner Planning Regional Office Director of Planning Purpose of Role To assist in the provision of high quality planning advice to take forward a wide portfolio of general planning consultancy project work including residential and regeneration schemes, town expansion, retail, renewable energy, commercial, rural and heritage related developments. Duties & Responsibilities To research and prepare appraisals of land and buildings primarily, but not necessarily exclusively, for planning projects; To assist in the preparation of Planning Statements and other similar reports; To contribute to the preparation of Design and Access Statements, sustainability statements and other planning reports; To assist in the preparation of information for, and attendance at, pre-application meetings with clients, other consultants and local planning authorities; To liaise with and develop good working relationships with clients, other consultants and local planning authorities To assist in the preparation and submission of planning and listed building consent applications using the Planning Portal; To assist in the preparation of evidence to support appeals against the refusal of planning consent; To assist in the preparation of representations to Local Development Framework documents; To assist in monitoring representations on Local Development Framework documents and planning applications; To assist in the organisation of, and attendance at, public consultations; To keep up to date with changes to national and local planning policy, guidance and practice;
To assist in the promotion of the company through personal contacts with current and potential clients, attendance at events and conferences, social media and in any other ways that would be beneficial to the company; To undertake any other duties commensurate with the skills and experience of the post holder and the needs of the company. To attend meetings with other consultants, clients and others as appropriate. To observe the company s policies in all aspects of employment and service provision. To be aware of, and comply with, the company s policies and procedures on health and safety at work by adopting safe working practices; reporting any accidents and/or unsafe or hazardous conditions to a director, and to do everything reasonable to prevent personal injury to themselves, fellow workers and members of the public. Qualifications, Experience & Ability RTPI Accredited planning degree or other relevant degree Excellent written English, strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently or as part of a team Ability to multi-task and to work to deadlines Strong research and analytical skills Independent thinker, able to identify and evaluate different courses of action and deliver appropriate solutions
