Introduction LBH South Africa and LBH Mozambique have been providing ships agency and logistical services for over 25 years with offices in all major bulk commodity ports in their respective countries. The two companies are an integral part of the LBH Group, a highly focussed and motivated Global ships agency and logistics group specialising in dry and liquid bulk agency. LBH s scope in South Africa and Mozambique and recently Namibia, has grown to include ships agency, inland logistics monitoring and coordination as well as the creation of alternative export routes and facilities. As an example LBH has been instrumental in the development of alternative export route solutions for a variety of our clients including at one stage owning and managing the Coal Terminal in Matola, Mozambique which in turn stimulated the significant increase in bulk coal export trade from the region. LBH also created the channel for the first exports of magnetite through Maputo which finally released the accumulated stockpile in Limpopo to market. We are licensed to be able to carry out this function throughout Mozambique. Mozambique General Information Mozambique Ports serving SADC Countries The Mozambican ports are used as transit ports for the inland locked countries in the region namely Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Malawi for their imports, exports using road and railway connections which are generally in good conditions. Mozambique has a coastline that stretches for about 2700Km making maritime transport the most economical way of carrying large volumes of cargo in the North-South directions and vice-versa. There are five major ports: Maputo, Beira, Nacala, Quelimane and Pemba. The ports of Maputo, Beira and Nacala are under management contracts and are run by foreign companies. SADC railway industry comprises of 14 operating railways with 12 government owned and two concessioned which are Beitbridge-Bulawayo railway and central East African railway. Road restrictions for transport of abnormal cargo Mozambique government does not have road legislation for abnormal cargo. For abnormal loads the transporter must apply for permission and a police escort.
