SINCE 1954 TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED LOGISTICS
Beginnings Successful Track Record Founded in 1954, Southern Michigan Cold Storage grew to become a successful, multi-facility public refrigerated warehouse (PRW) serving fruit and vegetable growers. Like most PRWs, Southern Michigan Cold Storage specialized in keeping products safe and cold, real cold. Growers brought their blueberries, cherries and blanched vegetables for blast freezing, mixing and annual storage. In addition to great customer service, Southern Michigan Cold Storage expanded through acquisition of nearby competitors and by building new facilities, including two in northern Indiana to serve the pork industry. In 1989, to help fund this expansion, Tri-State Investments became a major stockholder in the privately held company. Tri-State Investments was headed by Merlin Hanson, who eventually purchased the company outright, changing the name to Hanson Cold Storage. Our commitment to our grower community remains steadfast.
