TITLE: SCOPE: REPORTS TO: Science Communicator Visitor engagement and experience, customer service Director, Engagement Science PRIMARY PURPOSE: To promote science and technology within the Otago Museum. To add value to the Otago Museum visitor experience by proactively delivering engaging, relevant and accurate information, shows, activities and presentations to a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders in line with the core strategic mission and goals of the Otago Museum KEY RESULT AREAS: This position has a primary responsibility for the delivery of science communication and visitor experiences throughout the science-themed areas of the Otago Museum. Visitor Hosting Develop an excellent knowledge of the Search Centre, Discovery World Tropical Forest, Perpetual Guardian Planetarium and all associated exhibitions, programmes and services Communicate information about the science-themed areas of the Otago Museum clearly to Museum visitors Maintain a presence in the public areas of the Museum, proactively enhancing visitor experience and engagement with the exhibitions, collections and programmes Enhance public awareness of the Museum s role and responsibilities and promote the Museum as a welcoming, relevant and interesting place Collect visitor feedback and comments and communicate these through the approved channels Approach and engage visitors, proactively offering information and assistance in a manner which inspires them about science and technology Interact with visitors in a manner which recognises individual needs and levels of science and technology understanding Promote current and future programmes and exhibitions to Museum visitors Visitor Advocacy Proactively suggest changes or improvements to enhance the visitor experience collect visitor feedback and comments and communicate these effectively through the approved channels Act as the voice of the visitor in discussions relating to all public areas of the Museum Galleries Engage Museum visitors, proactively offering information and assistance, as appropriate Develop, implement and deliver science-themed activities, tours, programmes and presentations that will enhance the visitor experience Evaluate, updates and adapt programmes, presentations and activities, as appropriate Promote current and future programmes and exhibitions to Museum visitors Deliver and assist with visitor programmes and events, as required Maintain up-to-date files and statistical data of all presentations, tours and activities, as required Health and Safety Be responsible for the safety of Museum visitors Be familiar with the Museum s emergency procedures and to assist with the safe evacuation of visitors in the event of any emergency Identify and actively minimise or eliminate possible dangers to the public and staff in the Museum; to report all hazards through the approved channels Adhere to the Museum Health and Safety Policy and best practices at all times Ensure all visitors are cognisant of health and safety requirements and procedures Assist with health, safety and security systems as required, liaising with the Facilities Manager
