Grey EPS insulation board 4. Mineralic reinforcing coat 5. Glass fibre reinforcing mesh Embedded into the mineralic reinforcing coat 6. Primer 7. Silicone render finish! This guide is intended as an on-site reference aid only, and does not replace formal training and accreditation. If you wish to carry out insulation works using Stomix systems under ECO funding, you should attend a Sto training course and gain accreditation before work begins. No dimensional exact tolerances apply. The applicator/client is responsible for verifying the applicability and completeness of the system in the specific construction project concerned. Adjacent trades are shown in schematic form only. All specifications and details are to be adapted according to the on-site situation and do not constitute detailed or installation planning for the respective trades. Application Procedure Substrate Preparation 1 2 Test existing surfaces Remove or repair non-loadbearing coatings. Use a fungal wash to remove existing algae or mould growth. Fix the starter track Fixings at maximum 300mm centres and in hole nearest to the end of the starter track. Use packing shims to ensure the track is level with the wall. Fix full system stop beads if specified. 3 Prepare the Stomix Multibond Add each sack of Stomix Multibond to between 6.0 to 6.75 litres of water. Mix for 2-10 minutes to a smooth consistency. Allow to mature for 10 minutes and then briefly stir again. Apply Insulation Boards 4 Apply adhesive to the insulation board For systems without dowels: At least 40% of the board must be covered when applied to the wall. Use a frame and 6 dabs adhesive pattern or apply across entire surface with 15mm notched trowel. For systems with dowels: At least 20% of the board must be covered when applied to the wall. Use a frame and a 2 dabs adhesive pattern. 5 6 Apply the insulation board to the wall Push the board onto the substrate with a twisting motion. Press with a straight edge to ensure it is firmly located and aligned. Continue in a stretcher bond pattern Minimum overlap: 200mm, with boards interlocked at internal/external corners. 4 Application Procedure The technical specifications and information on the products in the technical data sheets and approvals must be observed.
Application Procedure Filling & Rasping the Insulation! 7 8 9 Fill any gaps between boards with PU Filler Foam Allow the adhesive to set Leave to set for a minimum of 24 hours. More time may be required in low temperatures or high humidity. Protect the surface from rain. Rasp the entire surface of the EPS This creates a flat surface and provides a key. Pay particular attention to board joints. This is critical if a good quality, professional render finish is to be achieved. Reinforcement of the Insulation 10 11 12 If using dowels, drill the holes required and countersink the EPS Insert the dowels. The fixing pattern should be as shown to achieve 8 dowels/m 2. Bed render beads, corner mesh angles, stress point mesh at corners of openings, etc. using Stomix Multibond. Apply Stomix Multibond as a reinforcing coat Trowel or machine apply to a thickness of 3-5mm. The technical specifications and information on the products in the technical data sheets and approvals must be observed. Application Procedure 5
Application Procedure Apply Mesh and Primer 13 14 15 16 Trowel the reinforcing mesh into the wet material Ensure it is covered completely. All mesh overlaps must be a minimum of 100mm. Trowel smooth Ensure a perfectly flat and even surface by using a wide levelling trowel (butterfly knife). Allow to set for at least 24 hours Low temperatures and/or high humidity may increase the setting/drying time to 48 hours or more. Protect the work from rain. Apply Stomix Primer to the entire dry surface with a brush or roller Allow to dry for at least 12 hours, or longer in periods of low temperatures/ high humidity. Stomix Primer may be diluted with up to max. 0.9l water per pail to aid workability. 6 Application Procedure The technical specifications and information on the products in the technical data sheets and approvals must be observed.
Application Procedure Apply the Render Finish! 17 Apply Stomix Silkotex Apply the Stomix Silkotex render finish directly onto the dry primer with a trowel or spray application machine. Stomix Silkotex may be diluted with up to 2% clean water to achieve a working consistency. Ensure the same amount of water is added to each pail of the same batch. Application should be to an entire elevation or between natural breaks (corners, stop beads, behind downpipes, etc.) in one single operation. Do not use Stomix Silkotex from differing batches on the same elevation. Failure to observe this requirement may result in visible differences in the render finish. 18 19 Remove excess material so that the coating thickness is regulated by the aggregate size Texture the render finish using a plastic texturing trowel, finishing lightly with a loose figure-of-eight motion. Allow to set for 24 hours Initial drying of the render takes 24 hours at 20 C and 65% relative humidity, although this may be considerably longer during periods of lower temperatures and/or higher humidity. Protect the work during this period. Full drying is normally achieved after 14 days. The technical specifications and information on the products in the technical data sheets and approvals must be observed. Application Procedure 7
