Must be a current or former employee of the Legislature for two or more years as defined in Government Code Section 18990; or 3. Must be a current or former non-elected exempt employee of the Executive Branch for two or more consecutive years as defined in Government Code Section 18992; or 4. Must be a person retired from the United States military, honorably discharged from active duty with a serviceconnected disability, or honorably discharged from active duty as defined in Government Code Section 18991. SALARY INFORMATION Range A: $6,836 - $7,578 Range B: $7,214 - $7,957 ELIGIBLE LIST INFORMATION A departmental promotional eligibility list will be established for State Compensation Insurance Fund. Names of successful competitors are merged onto the existing list in order of final score, regardless of date. The list will be abolished twelve months after being established, unless the needs of the service and/or conditions of the list warrant a change in this period. REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMITTANCE TO THE EXAMINATION It is your responsibility to make sure you meet the experience requirements stated on this announcement on the date you submit your application. NOTE: All applicants must meet the education and/or experience requirements as stated on this examination announcement by the final filing date, JUNE 25, 2010. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EITHER I One year of experience in the California state service performing duties in a class with a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Manager II, State Compensation Insurance Fund. OR II Two years of experience in the California state service performing duties in a class with a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Manager I, State Compensation Insurance Fund. OR III Four years of broad and extensive experience in supervising or managing professional workers' compensation broker, loss control, underwriting, or claims adjustment. (Experience in the California state service applied toward this pattern must include at least one year of experience performing the duties of a class with a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Manager II, State Compensation Insurance Fund, or two years of experience performing the duties of a class with a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Manager I, State Compensation Insurance Fund.) POSITION DESCRIPTION Positions allocated to this class are typically managers of small to medium-sized regional offices, staff departments, or other organizational units with equivalent responsibility. EXAMINATION INFORMATION WRITTEN TEST DATE: JULY 28, 2010 Testing will be conducted both in North and South. If conditions warrant, testing may be reschedule during August/September 2010. This examination will consist of a written test and an In-Basket exercise. In order to obtain a position on the eligible list, a minimum rating of 70.00% must be attained. WRITTEN TEST AND IN-BASKET EXERCISE - WEIGHTED 100.00% Once a candidate has taken the examination for this classification, he or she will not be allowed to take the examination again in any location within the twelve (12) months, this is until July 28, 2011. Effective January 1, 2009, Government Code Section 18991, in cases where promotional examinations are given by more than one agency for the same classification, the employee shall select one agency in which to compete. Once you have selected an agency to participate in an exam with, you can not participate with another agency for the same classification during the eligibility list period. Such revision will be in accordance with civil service laws and rules and all competitors will be notified. Examination Locations: When a written test is part of the examination, it will be given in such places in California as the number of candidates and conditions warrant. Locations of interviews may be limited or extended as conditions warrant. General Qualifications: Candidates must possess essential personal qualifications including integrity, initiative, dependability, good judgment, and ability to work cooperatively with others; and a state of health consistent with the ability to perform the assigned duties of the class. A medical examination may be required. In open examinations, investigation may be made of employment records and personal history and fingerprinting may be required. Eligible Lists: Eligible lists established by competitive examination, regardless of date, must be used in the following order: 1) sub-divisional promotional, 2) departmental promotional, 3) multi-departmental promotional, 4) service-wide promotional, 5) departmental open, 6) open. When there are two lists of the same kind, the older must be used first. Eligible lists will expire in one to four years unless otherwise stated on the bulletin. Page 4 of 5

Promotional Examinations Only: Competition is limited to employees who have a permanent civil service appointment and military veterans that meet all the minimum qualifications. Under certain circumstances, other employees may be allowed to compete under provisions of Rules 234, 235, and 235.2. State Personnel Board Rules 233, 234, 235, 235.2, and 237 contain provisions regarding civil service status and eligibility for promotional examinations. High School Equivalence: Equivalence to completion of the 12th grade may be demonstrated in any one of the following ways:1) passing the General Educational Development (GED) Test; 2) completion of 12 semester units of college work; 3) certification from the State Department of Education, a local school board, or high school authorities that the candidate is considered to have education equivalent to graduation from high school; 4) for clerical and accounting classes, substitution of business college work in place of high school on a year-for-year basis.
