Survey proposed job sites to compile information and determine design parameters in preparation for the design phase of a project. 7. Performs staking of construction projects. 8. Uses and maintains various technical operating manual, standards and specifications related to bridge and culvert construction, materials, paving, traffic control devices, field testing and related maintenance activities. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to apply safety practices and procedures to all situations. Physical Demands: Stands and walks much of the time. Must be able to walk on uneven and unstable surfaces such as at construction sites or roadway or ditch embankments. Must be able to use such hand tools as a hammer, sledge hammer, spade, shovel and pick ax or ax. While sitting operates equipment such as PC and peripheral equipment. Operates inspection and testing equipment both in the field and in a lab. May operate survey instruments and related accessories such as level rods, measuring tapes, and range poles. Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting (50 to 100 pounds) is required. Environment: Completes work indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work may result in exposure to various weather conditions, high noise levels, fumes, and physical hazards associated with construction sites and equipment. A high level of mental exertion is required. The level of physical exertion may occasionally be strenuous at work sites.
