1. Nyatakan samada kenyataan berikut BENAR atau SALAH dan berikan alasan anda. State whether the following statement is TRUE or FALSE and give your reason. (a) Dalam pemprosesan komposit polimer diperkuat dengan gentian, masalah wetting adalah bertambah dengan bertambahnya pecahan gentian. In the processing of fibre reinforced polymer composites, wetting problem increased with an increase in fibre fraction. (b) Dalam ujian regangan, gentian yang mengalami cabut-keluar memberikan kekuatan yang lebih kepada komposit berbanding dengan gentian yang putus. (In tensile test, fibre pull-out contribute more to the strength of composite compared to a fibre breakage.) (d) (e) Termoset boleh diproses dengan menggunakan kaedah acuan tekan dan acuan suntikan tanpa sebarang penghadan. Thermoset can be processed using both compression moulding and injection moulding techniques without any limitation. In composite preparation, fibres were normally arranged in the same direction, in order to get the best out of its properties. Explain the extrusion and pultrusion processes of composite feed stock injection moulding. for 2/6

Explain the expected fibre length characteristics of injection moulded composites based on extruded and pultruded feed stocks. Berdasarkan konsep kegagalan komposit, terangkan sifat-sifat yang dijangkakan mengenai kegagalan gentian dalam komposit gentian pendek dan komposit gentian panjang dalam ujian-ujian regangan dan hentaman. Based on the concept of composites fracture, explain the expected behaviour of fibre fracture in short and long fibre composites in tensile and impact tests. With reference to either injection moulding machine or compression moulding machine, explain what is meant by one cycle of operation in composite processing? Give a diagram for the basic machine construction/design of your selected machine in (a) above. Label the important components and explain their function. Jawab satu (1) daripada yang berikut:- Answer one (1) of the following:- (i) (ii) Kegunaan komposit polimer dalam industri kereta dan pesawat. The application of polymer composites in automobile and aircraft industries. Penggunaan gentian semula jadi sebagai tetulang untuk komposit matriks polimer. The use of natural fibre as reinforcement for polymer matrix composites. (30 markah/marks) 4. Komposit poliamida 6,6 diperkuat dengan gentian karbon pendek disediakan dengan kaedah penyebatian ekstrusi dan acuan suntikan dengan pecahan isipadu gentian 20%. Dalam ujian regangan, didapati regangan matriks pada pemanjangan 1.55%, regangan ricih matriks dan pemanjangan semasa putus komposit ialah 37 MPa, 48 MPa dan 1.68% masingmasingnya. Daripada jadual pengeluar gentian dilaporkan diamater, pemanjangan semasa putus, kekuatan regangan dan modulus Young gentian ialah 7 μm, 1.55%, 3690 MPa and 238 GPa masing-masingnya. Daripada analisis taburan panjang gentian didapati daripada 593 gentian yang dianalisa, bilangan gentian yang panjangnya kurang dan lebih daripada panjang gentian kritikal di dalam komposit acuan suntikan ialah 451 dan 142 dengan panjang purata 0.18 mm and 0.47 mm masing-masingnya. Jika regangan ricih matriks diambil sebagai kekuatan ricih antara muka komposit, kirakan yang berikut:- A short carbon fibre reinforced polyamide 6.6 composites prepared by extrusion compounding and injection moulding with fibre volume fraction of 20%. In tensile tests, it was found that stress in matrix at 1.55% elongation, matrix shear stress and fracture strain of composites are 37 MPa, 48 MPa and 1.68% respectively. From the fibre manufacturer literature it was reported that diameter, fracture strain, tensile strength and Young's modulus of fibre are 7 μm, 1.55%, 3690 MPa and 238 GPa respectively. From the fibre length distribution analysis it was also found that from 593 fibre analysed, frequency of fibres shorter and longer than the critical fibre length in injection moulded composites are 451 and 142 with their average length as 0.18 mm and 0.47 mm respectively. Tensile strength of composite determined by experiment was 157 MPa. Give explanation on the difference in this value compared to the predicted value in above. (30 markah/marks) 5. (a) Dalam ujian hentaman sampel acuan suntikan komposit poliamida diperkuat dengan gentian (komposit A), data berikut diperolehi. In impact tests of injection moulded fibre reinforced polyamide composite (composite A), the following data were recorded.
