Vesuvius in A.D. 79, will form the focal point (laboratory) for our examination of life in an ancient Roman town. We will learn what the people of Pompeii ate, wore and worried about. Archaeological evidence including architecture, sculpture, and monumental painting will be stressed. Requirements: Tests: Three unit exams. 1. Feb. 5 2. March 19 4. April 25 20% each. Essay: 2 essays (instructions and format will be provided). Essay 1 due Friday March 19 Essay 2 due Friday April 20. The university recognizes the right of the individual professor to make attendance mandatory. After due warning, professors can prohibit further attendance and subsequently assign a failing grade for excessive absences. 2.
