Slimblind TM Slimblind is an original new product based on a slim Venetian blind sealed hermetically between two pieces of glass which is then held in the door or wall by a two part steel or stainless steel vision frame kit. Slimblind is the first hermetically sealed Venetian blind system to achieve fire ratings on timber doors within the UK and Ireland. This revolutionary new product has been developed by ZEROplus and successfully fire tested in conjunction with Pilkington, the world leader in glass technology. Since the blind is encased within the glass, the Slimblind provides a clean dust-free appearance preventing moisture, condensation and dirt. No cleaning of the slats is necessary and they always appear pristine and cannot be damaged since they are permanently sealed. The blind is operated by a magnetic knurled dial operator without breaking the insulating seal. This operator can be either secured permanently to the unit or used as a removable device to prevent unauthorised use of the blind. With great aesthetics this product has modern appeal and is hygienic and truly maintenance free. The double glazed blind unit (DGBU) is usually supplied with mild steel or stainless steel vision frame trims with slim projection that hold the unit within the door. The DGBU can also be supplied as a stand-alone unit for fixing in to the door with timber beading. Mild steel frames can be powder coated (to RAL colours) to colour co-ordinate with any surrounding, and blind slats can be supplied in nine architectural colours. For large projects, blinds can even be manufactured incorporating more than one colour e.g. alternate blue and yellow. Applications The hermetically sealed unit means that dust and dirt is never going to be a problem so Slimblind is ideal for providing privacy in hospital wards and private clinics, and for use in clean room areas. It can also assist in maintaining confidentiality in interview rooms, research establishments and office environments. It also provides the opportunity for covert viewing without the need to intrude into observation rooms, for example in schools and institutions. Where security is required in banks and financial institutions, Slimblind is a neat unobtrusive method of achieving this. Slimblind TM Intumescent aperture liners For non-fire rated doors, an aperture is cut in the door to accommodate the unit. On fire rated timber doors the aperture must be lined with Zero FS4004 self adhesive intumescent liner as tested. No hardwood lipping is required. FS4004 is 1.6mm thick and expands 80 times its volume in fire situations, and is supplied 44mm wide for 30 minute doors and 54mm wide for 60 minute doors. If Slimblind is used on steel fire rated doors, an intumescent aperture liner is not required. Fire ratings The complete Slimblind units have been successfully fire tested to BS EN1363-1: 1999 at Warrington Fire and are suitable for 30 minutes integrity (44mm thick doors) and 60 minutes integrity (54mm thick doors). Tests were conducted in the most onerous combination i.e. Pilkington Pyrodur to the heating conditions. This means the unit can be installed either way round, regardless of the direction of fire risk. They can be used on timber and steel fire doors of suitable construction. Operational methods The slats of the Venetian blind are silently rotated by means of a discreet magnetic knurled operator dial which transmits through the glass and doesn t compromise the unit s hermetic seal. The knurled dial can be either fixed permanently to the unit or issued only to authorised users for periodic observation giving total security to the unit. The slats can be tilted and left in either the see through or obscured positions. The removable dial operator would satisfy anti-ligature requirements. Fully fire tested Installation Slimblind is fast and simple to install on doors and panels. The DGBU is supplied fully assembled and hermetically sealed ready for installation within the steel trims supplied with it. Full installation instructions are provided. Slimblind kit sizes Slimblind can be manufactured in any custom size up to 768mm x 1835mm (width x height) based on a minimum order quantity of twenty. The minimum size available is 412mm x 412mm. Please note these sizes are cut-out sizes in the door and are always width x height. The maximum square size for fire rated doors is 952mm x 952mm cut-out, and all the standard rectangular sizes below are also suitable for fire rated doors. The frames have countersunk mounting holes for #8x32 Phillips head steel thru bolts with a blank head on one side for flush appearance. Special security screw fasteners are also available. It is important that the thickness of the door or wall is advised when ordering so that the correct trims to suit the specified door and DGBU thickness combination are supplied. Standard T2 square edged frame with thru bolts and blank head one side. T2 frame suits both 44mm and 54mm thick doors. T2/44FR = 44mm thick fire rated door (30 mins) T2/44NFR = 44m thick non-fire rated door T2/54FR = 54mm thick fire rated door (60 mins) T2/54NFR = 54mm thick non-fire rated door Frame material and finishes The flush fitting steel trims have minimal projection off the door face, and can be supplied either mild steel or stainless steel. All frames are supplied with matching fixings. Mild steel frame trims are supplied white (RAL9016), beige (RAL9002) or regal silver as standard. They can also be supplied grey primed mild steel ready for powder coating, or powder coated in any RAL finish. Stainless steel frames (Grade 304 or Grade 316) can be supplied satin or polished finish. Bevel edged T1 frame also available to special order. Venetian blind colours Blind slats are 12.5mm wide and are supplied flat silver (S157) as standard. They are also available in eight other colours to co-ordinate with door hardware: bright silver (S156), dark grey (S155), cream (S149), pale blue (S142), pale green (S130), light grey (S125), white (S102) and pale yellow (S106). Minimum order quantities apply to colours other than flat silver. DGBU (Double Glazed Blind Unit) sizes The size of the DGBU is determined by the size of the cut-out in the door after allowing for any intumescent aperture liner that might be required. Please note that all dimensions shown are based on width x height to ensure that blind slats always run horizontally. Also note that the minimum required door thickness is 44mm. The unit can be supplied with standard 4mm thick toughened safety glass each side for non-fire rated applications, or with Pilkington Pyrodur 10mm thick glass one side for fire rated applications up to 30 minutes and 60 minutes. Fire rated units have 6mm toughened glass on the other side, and conform to BS 6206 Class B. This means the DGBU is available in two different thicknesses depending on whether the door is fire rated. Therefore the DGBU is either 27mm thick (non fire rated), or 35mm thick (30 minute and 60 minute fire rating) as follows. 27mm thick DGBU: 35mm thick DGBU: Non fire rated: 4mm toughened safety glass each side of 18mm blind. Total DGBU thickness 27mm. Fire rated to 30 minutes and 60 minutes integrity: Pilkington Pyrodur 10mm thick glass one side, 6mm clear toughened glass on the other side of 18mm blind. Total DGBU thickness 35mm. Glass finishes Glass is supplied clear unless stated otherwise at time of ordering. Toughened glass can be supplied with Pilkington Optifloat tinted in grey, green, bronze or Pilkington Arctic Blue. Both fire and toughened glass can be supplied with decorative effects and corporate logos (either adhesive or sandblast). Glazing tape For fire rated applications intumescent tape is required as tested i.e. Zero FS2002 glazing tape 0.8mm thick x 9.5mm wide fixed to each side of glass. For non-fire rated applications standard closed cell foam glazing tape can be used. Various thickness glazing tapes are available.
