UNIVERSITI SAINS MALAYSIA First Semester Examination 2013/2014 Academic Session December 2013 / January 2014 REG 265 Infrastructure Technology (Teknologi Infrastruktur) Duration: 3 hours (Masa: 3 jam) Please check that this examination paper consists of NINE pages of printed material before you begin the examination. - 2-1. (a) You have been assigned to prepare the sewerage system for the Clans Jetty in Penang. The Clans Jetty is a waterfront settlement of about 200 houses built on stilts. It is proposed that a centralized Sewage Treatment Plant to be built in the vicinity of the said development. Describe all the criterias that you will have to consider in order to ensure the proper location selection of such a Sewage Treatment Plant. Anda telah ditugaskan untuk menyediakan sistem pembetungan bagi Jeti Klans di Pulau Pinang. Jeti Klans adalah satu penempatan persisiran dimana sebanyak 200 buah rumah dibina atas pancang. Adalah dicadangkan satu Loji Rawatan Kumbahan berpusat dibina berhampiran pembangunan tersebut. Bincangkan semua kriteria yang anda perlu pertimbangkan untuk memastikan pemilihan lokasi Loji Rawatan Kumbahan yang sesuai. (10 marks/markah) (b) With the aid of a process flow chart, discuss the principle of sewage treatment of a mechanical sewage treatment plant for use in the above proposed project. Dengan bantuan carta alir, huraikan prinsip rawatan kumbahan satu loji rawatan kumbahan mekanikal untuk kegunaan dalam cadangan projek di atas. (10 marks/markah) 2. (a) It was proposed that a new water reticulation system to be constructed for the Clans Jetty. The Clans Jetty is a waterfront settlement of about 200 houses built on stilts. You are assigned to plan the water reticulation system of the said development. Discuss the steps that you have to consider in order to decide whether an elevated water tower is needed or not. Adalah dicadangkan agar satu sistem retikulasi air baru dibina di Jeti Klans. Jeti Klans adalah satu penempatan di mana persisiran sebanyak 200 buah rumah yang dibina atas pancang. Anda ditugaskan untuk merancang satu skim bekalan air untuk pembangunan tersebut. Bincangkan langkah-langkah yang anda perlu ambil untuk menentukan sama ada tangki air menara diperlukan atau tidak. - 3 - (b) In the event an elevated water tower is needed, discuss with the aid of sketches, the best location to site the tower from the differential pressure need point of view. Sekiranya tangki air menara diperlukan, bincangkan dengan bantuan lakaran, tapak terbaik untuk menempatkan menara tersebut dari sudut keperluan tekanan yang berbeza. (10 marks/markah) 3. (a) Explain the difference between accessibility and mobility. Terangkan perbezaan diantara aksesibiliti dan mobiliti. (8 marks/markah) (b) Parking is an essential component of urban traffic. Discuss the issues and recommendations that are common with parking requirements in a city traffic management system. Parkir adalah komponen penting untuk lalulintas bandar. Bincangkan isu dan saranan yang sering disabitkan dengan keperluan parkir dalam sistem pengurusan lalulintas di kawasan bandar. (12 marks/markah) 4. (a) What is Manning s coefficient when we discuss about surface drainage? Apakah dia pekali Manning apabila kita berbicara tentang saliran permukaan? (4 marks/markah) (b) The Rational Method is often use for stormwater design. List the steps required to determine flow volume for given site. Kaedah Rational selalu digunakan untuk merekabentuk saliran untuk air hujan. Senaraikan langkah yang diperlukan untuk menentukan jumlah aliran untuk sesuatu kawasan. (8 marks/markah) 4/-

- 4 - (c) An area with a size of 5600 m 2 is half grass and half tarmac for parking. Assuming a 2 year recurrence with 40 minutes duration rainfall intensity and T c of 4.5 minutes determine the flow Q for this area. Runoff coefficient for grass and tarmac are 0.18 and 0.80 respectively. Suggest the best method of drainage for this type of landuse. (refer Figure 1). Satu kawasan dengan saiz 5600 m 2 adalah separuh rumput dan separuh tarmac untuk parkir. Anggap keamatan hujan selama 40 minit bagi kekerapan 2 tahun dan masa tumpuan T c 4.5 minit, tentukan aliran Q untuk kawasan ini. Pekali aliran untuk rumput dan Tarmac adalah masingmasing 0.18 dan 0.80. Cadangkan kaedah saliran terbaik untuk kawasan gunatanah seperti ini. (rujuk Rajah 1). (8 marks/markah) 5. (a) Give the description of Green Infrastructure. Berikan diskripsi Infrastruktur Hijau. (5 marks/markah) (b) List and discuss 3 (three) benefits of Green Infrastructure to environment and peoples. Senarai dan bincangkan 3 (tiga) kelebihan Infrastruktur Hijau kepada persekitaran dan manusia. (15 marks/markah) 6. (a) State four (4) types of telephone network. - 5 - (b) Using the typical values of ADMD for various types of buildings,estimate the number of substations needed to supply electricity for a housing scheme of 30 hectar with these details: Dengan menggunakan nilai tipikal ADMD untuk pelbagai jenis bangunan, anggarkan jumlah pencawang yang diperlukan untuk bekalan elektrik bagi satu skim perumahan seluas 30 hektar yang mempunyai butiran seperti berikut: 140 single storey terrace house units/unit rumah teres 1 tingkat 120 double storey terrace house units/unit rumah teres 2 tingkat 60 double storey semi-detached house units/unit rumah berkembar 2 tingkat 3 blocks of low cost flat houses with 210 occomodation units per block/ blok rumah pangsa kos rendah dengan 210 unit kediaman untuk 1 blok 2 blocks of medium cost flat houses with 150 occomodation units per block/ blok rumah pangsa kos sederhana dengan 150 unit kediaman untuk 1 blok 50 double storey shop houses units/unit rumah kedai 2 tingkat (8 marks/markah) 7. (a) State the Ohm s Law of electricity. Nyatakan Ohm s Law bagi elektrik. (2 marks/markah) (b) Explain five (5) criteria of low voltage system. Terangkan lima (5) kriteria sistem voltan rendah. (10 marks/markah) (c) Calculate the voltage drop for this electricity supply network for a housing area (Figure 2). Use the attached tables as guide.
