Innovation

Priority 1 : Innovation Specific Objective To enhance innovation performance of enterprises throughout NWE regions Building the capacity of regions and territories Improving the competitiveness of enterprises Delivering societal benefits through innovation

Priority 1: Innovation SO1: to enhance innovation performance in NWE through international cooperation Key Issues Enhancing innovation performance Building the capacity of regions & territories Improving the competitiveness of enterprises Delivering societal benefits through innovation

emen NL DE UK FR BE IE Challenge 38% of the EU population suffers from mental diseases the IT sector in NWE is well performing e-mental health applications have a high potential but are not used Objective Creation of an EU-wide platform for e-mental health innovation Implementation of solutions by private and public partners Result Average use of e-mental health products will increase to 15% (currently 8% in NWE) Mid-term: average increase of 25%

Boost4Health B4H BE DE ES FR NL UK Challenge Big differences in health care systems Lack of knowledge on internationalisation Product validation under different regulations Objective B4H aims to stimulate international growth and innovation capacity in the health science sector Result 300 SMEs supported through coaching and matchmaking, to help bring new products to market

Priority 1: Innovation 29.9m ERDF allocated = 23% of priority budget

Low Carbon.

Priority 2 : Low Carbon Specific Objective To facilitate the implementation of low carbon, energy and climate protection strategies Specific Objective To facilitate the uptake of low carbon technologies, products, processes and services in sectors with high energy saving potential, to reduce GHG emissions in NWE Specific Objective To faciltate the implementation of transnational lowcarbon solutions in transport systems

Priority 2: Low Carbon SO2: to reduce GHG emissions in NWE through international cooperation on the implementation of low carbon, energy or climate protection strategies Key points Reducing GHG emissions Implementing low carbon, energy or climate protection strategies promoting carbon reduction in cities & regions implementing combined mitigation & adaptation solutions

E=0: Desirable, warm, affordable homes for life FR LU NL UK Challenge Poor energy performance of residential buildings Current retrofit measures are piecemeal Lack of holistic policies with compartmentalised funding Objective E=0 aims to support the creation of a sustainable market for net zero energy retrofits across NWE Result 25% cost reduction in E=0 approach to boost its roll out 41 buildings retrofitted, 5 archetypes demonstrated

FORESEA Funding Ocean Renewable Energy through Strategic European Action Challenge The cost of pre-commercial testing and demonstration for ocean energy is high and investors are reluctant to invest until the technology has been proven in the sea at scale Objectives Bring ocean technologies to the market by providing access to a network of test centers for SMEs UK NL IE FR BE Results Ocean energy (OE) providing competitive low carbon energy into Europe s energy market Move OE technology from TRL 5 to TRL 7 Identification of new OE technologies and products Picture EMEC website

Priority 2: Low Carbon SO3: to reduce GHG emissions in NWE through international cooperation on the update of low carbon technologies, products, processes and services Key Issues reducing GHG emissions Implementing new technologies, services, products and processes

Priority 2: Low Carbon SO4: to reduce GHG emissions in NWE through international cooperation on transnational low carbon solutions in transport systems Key issues reducing GHG emissions implementing transnational solutions for low carbon transport systems implementing solutions for optimised traffic management

CHIPS : Cycle Highways Innovation for smarter People Transport & Spatial Planning BE DE NL UK Challenge Need to reduce CO2 emissions from transport Develop and promote cycle highways as an effective and cost efficient low carbon solution Objective CHIPS aims to develop bicycle highways into a high quality and transnational mobility solution Result Use of cycle highways increased by a factor of 1.5 to 3 Reduction of 9.683t CO2-emissions per year

Priority 2: Low Carbon 70.3m ERDF allocated = 48% of priority budget

Resource & Materials Efficiency

Priority 3 : Resource and materials efficiency Specific Objective 5 Encourager l adoption de technologies, produits, process et services à faibles émissions de To optimise (re)use of material and natural resources carbone in NWE by implementing new technologies, services, products and processes

Priority 3: Resource & Materials Efficiency SO5: to optimise (re)use of material and natural resources in NWE through international cooperation Key issues Optimising (re)use of material & natural resources Implementing new technologies, services, products and processes

AFTB: Adhesive Free Timber Buildings BE DE FR IE UK Challenge Wasteful and harmful use of toxic adhesives in the manufacturing of Engineered Wood Products (EWPs) by the construction industry The majority of EWPs go to landfill or incineration Alternative using compressed wood not used in the real world Objective AFTB aims to increase the uptake of adhesive free EWPs 100% reusable and recyclable by the construction industry Result 200 m3 of adhesive free timber EWPs produced, saving 1200 kg of adhesives 10 businesses adopting the new technology and producing a range of adhesive free EWPs

Priority 3: Resource Efficiency 33.3m ERDF allocated = 36% of priority budget

2-Step Application Process Step 1: Light-touch application What is the issue? What is the result? Need; Rationale; Objectives; Outputs; Results; Ballpark budget Liaise with Contact Points for assistance Step 2: Full application How will you achieve the result?
