Technical Information Series 747 UV Cure pad printing ink UV cured pad printing ink for applications on plastics, glass and metals. Overview Series 747 combines the high gloss, application stability and fast curing time of UV-curing inks with an extremely high resistance, comparable to solvent based 2-component inks. Designed for decoration and functional printing on advertising material, cosmetic packages, tools and toys, automotive parts and industrial applications requiring high chemical and abrasion resistance. Series 747 was designed for use on a wide range of plastics including pre-treated Polypropylene and Polyethylene, most coatings and some metals. The ink is easy to use and thinned with solvent thinner. Substrates Series 747 is suitable for printing on various plastics. The range includes pre-treated Polyolefins (Polypropylene and Polyethylene), Polystyrene and its derivatives like ABS and SAN, PMMA, PET-A and PET-G, Polycarbonate, Polyamide, Duroplas, glass, coated surfaces and some metals. The great variety of plastics and use of recycled material can cause differences in the properties of substrates with the same name. This makes it absolutely necessary for users to conduct their own printing tests under local conditions with regard to the intended application prior to starting production. Due to ongoing development of 747 formulation, the range of printable substrates may increase. Due to the wide variety of materials and their many modifications we recommend print tests under local conditions with regard to the intended application prior to production. Applications The operational use is (almost) the whole range of plastics used in technical applications and industrial oriented printing applications (automotive parts, electronic components, medical devices, tools, toys, etc.) The ink system combines the advantage of fast curing UV-inks with an extremely high chemical and abrasion resistance comparable to 2 component solvent based inks. Series 747 (8005 black and 9005 white) has Class VI Certification for application on medical and surgical components. Characteristics This modern ink system is free of critical physiological substances like NVP (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone HDDA, TPGDA and TMPTA). Being a highly reactive ink system the user should be familiar with the typical handling characteristics of UVinks. Screened polymer as well as open etch steel plates can be used. Additives Depending on the print application, Series 747 is adjusted with different solvent thinners. For fast printing the accelerator 700-020 is recommended. For slower printing the thinners 700-019 and/or 700-017 can be used. Normally there is no need for a retarder. Addition of 15-20% thinner is reasonable. Pigments Series 747 is heavy metal free and mono-pigmented for high opacity. This also means that in many cases pre-printing with white to achieve the desired colour shade is not necessary. A wide range of high-density colours are available to cover practically the full colour chromatic spectrum: Series 747 1005 MS - light yellow Series 747 1205 MS - dark yellow Series 747 2005 MS - orange Series 747 3005 MS - red Series 747 4005 MS - violet Series 747 4505 MS - dark blue Series 747 8005 MS - black Series 747 9005 MS - white In addition to these opaque shades there are also 5 highly pigmented transparent shades included in the PMS mixing system, and can be used for attractive results mixed with metallic shades: Series 747-1105 MS - medium yellow
Technical Information Series 747-3105 Series 747-3305 Series 747-5005 Series 747-6005 MS - magenta red MS - magenta MS - blue MS - green High density covering shades for increased print opacity: Series 747-00 ST - high density white Series 747-33 ST - high density black The process colours for 4-colour halftone prints are ready to print and follow the European scale: Series 747-0950 MS - cyan Series 747-0960 MS - yellow Series 747-0970 MS - magenta Series 747-0980 MS - black For transparent bases and varnishes, we offer the following: Series 747-05 gloss varnish A range of standard pre-mixed metallic colours are also available: Series 747-100 ST - silver Series 747-101 ST - brilliant silver Series 747-102 ST - gold Series 747-103 ST - copper gold Note: metallic pigments and the functional groups of the UV binder can interfere, reducing ink shelf life. All inks of this series are free of heavy metals and follow the European Regularion EN71, part 3 (safety of toys, migration of certain elements) and ASTM Standard F 963-2003. All pigments used in Series 747 show a light fastness of at least 6-8 according to wool scale (DIN 16525). If colour shades are reduced with high amounts of white or transparent systems, light fastness might also be reduced. Drying This UV system is designed for curing with high or medium pressure mercury lamps with at least 80-120W/cm 2. Optimum curing and adhesion properties require an energy level of app. 500mJ/cm 2 (measured with a Kuhnast UV-Integrator, 250-410nm, max. 365nm), alternatively app. 1000 mj/cm 2 (measured with a Technigraf UV-Integrator). The energy level depends on the opacity and the transferred amount of ink. Double prints are possible without in between curing at appropriately higher energy levels. Only double prints of highly transparent shades can be cured reasonably. Screen/Cliche Series 747 doesn t contain any ingredients which attack polymer clichés or cause oxidation on steel printing blocks. Both steel and polymer plates are suitable for use with Series 747, with an etch depth of approximately 30 microns for steel and 20-30 micron for polymer plates depending on the image. Pads Choosing the correct type of pad, shape and Shore-hardness depends on article (form, structure, surface tension, etc.) to be printed. Series 747 is compatible with all types of pads with normal handling practices i.e. delubrication of new printing pads, careful handling, don t wipe with solvents, cleaning with adhesive tape, etc. Silicone-activation of old pads may be achieved with the application of light pad oil (available in 100ml bottles). Cleaning Wet pad printing ink or not completely cured inks can be removed with universal cleaning agents (700-URT SolvaWash). Storage Under normal conditions (limited change of temperatures of 15-25 o C, humidity 20-70% we guarantee a shelf life of 12 months for standard colour shades and 6 months for metallics. Open cans should be sealed firmly and stored away from sunlight or other UV light sources. Metallic colours are mixed to order to ensure you get the maximum shelf life from your inks.
