KANSAS
KANSAS Kansas Motor Carrier Inspectors are a part of the Kansas Highway Patrol Troop I Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit. IFTA and IRP are written as state laws and can be enforced by any LEO in Kansas. However, it is mainly enforced by the Kansas Highway Patrol. IFTA and IRP are instructed during the basic KHP academy to all Troopers and Motor Carrier Inspectors. We do not administer IFTA or IRP. That is handled by the Kansas Department of Revenue.
KANSAS We issue tickets for IFTA violations. Any IFTA violation is $137.00 plus court costs of $108.00 for a total of $245.00. IRP is a misdemeanor violation and is fined through the courts. Permits are no longer sold at scale houses and are only available online and can be obtained from the KTrips website. Mobile MCI Officers are armed.
KANSAS Our most active duty is size/weight enforcement. Our next responsibility is commercial vehicle inspections through CVSA. IFTA & IRP should be checked for compliance/enforcement purposes during both types of traffic stop. We work mostly alone with special enforcements throughout the year where we work in small groups, or assist local agencies.
MANITOBA
MANITOBA We are a special investigations unit attached to the Manitoba Department of Finance Taxation Division, Audit Branch. We are all designated Peace Officers for the enforcement of Tax Acts. We are the body responsible for the enforcement of IFTA in this jurisdiction. We receive assistance from Motor Carrier Services and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). We do not enforce or administer IRP. We issue tickets/citations for IFTA violations such as failing to display decals or failing to carry carrier license. A penalty of $673.65 is assessed for violations of our Fuel Tax Act in relation to IFTA regulations.
MANITOBA Motor Carrier Services (Weigh Stations) sell single trip permits on our behalf. We do not enforce the Highway Traffic Act. We are not armed. Our most active duty currently is the enforcement of our Tobacco Tax Act and the interdiction of contraband tobacco products into Manitoba. Our next largest responsibility relates to major fraud of Provincial Sales Tax, and Fuel/IFTA follows closely behind.
MANITOBA Manitoba works very closely with various police forces, and utilizes their assistance in the execution of Search Warrants, and occasionally, in the stopping of vehicles at roadside. We have one marked truck and uniformed enforcement officer dedicated to fuel/ifta for the entire province. We assign other investigators to fuel and IFTA projects throughout the year, including the M&M Blitz.
