LIGHT GAUGE STEEL CPD SEMINAR 1
Light Gauge Steel System Attributes: Speed of construction LGS Overview Predictable build time Non-weather dependent Flexibility Low waste 2
ORCA HISTORY IN BRIEF ORCA s team have 20 years of industry leading knowledge and experience in mobile and off site manufacturing and construction The team have built over half a million m 2 of residential units in the Middle East. ORCA, recently launched in UK, has utilised this experience to construct over 50,000m 2. ORCA History in Brief 3
ORCA UK ORCA operates in the following sectors; ORCA UK Residential Leisure and commercial Healthcare Extra care Student Housing Educational 4
ORCA Approach 1. Design led systems 2. Full integration of fabrication software with Revit Autodesk BIM compliant 3. Improved workflow between consultants ORCA Approach 4. Mobile manufacturing 5
ORCA Approach - Differentiating the product Using a simple approach, ORCA, Highly engineered steelwork design minimises the amount of steel, therefore; Reduces material cost Smaller, lighter machines Low fixed overheads as machines and premises reduce space requirement Also allows machines to be moved mobile manufacturing ORCA only manufacture the frames no insulation, no windows fitted, therefore easier to transport to site, need less plant/cranes in factory on site As insulation is fitted post-erection, ORCA are not affected by wind As the insulation is rigid, closed cell, unaffected by rain during construction. ORCA Approach differentiating the product 6

STEEL FRAME CONTSRUCTION - Performance LGS Out performs traditional buildings solutions significantly: Fast construction Typically 50% less than traditional Lightweight - Reduces foundation requirements by up to 50% Predictability Integrated design and manufacturing process Non combustible Low fire risk during construction Light Gauge Steel Construction Accurate to 1mm over 10m Stability no cracking, shrinking, rot or long term movement 14
STEEL FRAME CONTSRUCTION - Performance LGS Out performs traditional buildings solutions significantly: Weather tight shell achieved within 3 days for 2 storey house 100% recyclable higher BREEAM and CSH points Zero waste on site External brickwork/cladding removed from critical path Ability to increase floor space through thinner wall construction Light Gauge Steel Construction 15
DESIGN INTEGRATION ORCA Design and BIM Software Architect s CAD file read, overlaid and formatted by ORCA design team for steel frame coding and manufacture. Structural design is carried out by ORCA s in house team of structural engineers using the latest Eurocodes. Design Integration BIM is integrated using advanced Autodesk Revit software. ORCA use the latest 3D technology to provide clients full visualisation of each project. 16

LIFESPAN AND WARRANTIES Report carried out by the Steel Construction Institute (SCI) in March 2013 highlighted the predicted lifespan of light gauge steel structural elements. The figures within the table relate to the galvanised coating of the material only, therefore the figures can be seen as minimum lifespan. Lifetime and Warranties In comparison, timber frame is expected to last 60 years due to the natural degradation of the material and likelihood of insect infestation. NHBC, LABC, BLG and Premier all offer warranties as detailed in their structural information packages, with a minimum of 10 years structural guarantee. 23
