Report of Swachh Pakhwada from 16-31 October, 2016 on 16.10.2016 to 18.10.2016 The ICAR Headquarters, all 103 ICAR Institutes and all the 648 KVKs all over the country are observing Swachhta Pakhwada during 16 th 31 st Oct 2016. During this period both the on campus and off campus cleanliness activities have been planned involving ICAR Scientist /Staff/ Students/ Farmers/ common citizens. Various establishments are conducting Swachhta Seminars, Awareness campaigns, Melas etc. on relevant topics. Specific Activities: Swachhta Pledge were taken by all the establishments on 16 th- 17 th October, which were followed by dedicated mass cleaning operations in the vicinities of the establishments. ICAR-ATARI organised a Kisan Mela at KVK Kaithal on October 16, 2016 in which more than 1500 farmers from Haryana and Punjab participated. Chairman, ASRB, New Delhi graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Vice-Chancellor, CCS HAU was the Guest of Honour. In this Kisan Mela, farmers were made aware about Swachhata Pakwada being celebrated during October 16-31, 2016. Participants were also asked not to pollute environment by burning of crop residue. The programme concluded with a pledge rendered by the Chief Guest to all the participants not to burn crop residue and keep their surroundings, village and public place clean and motivate others for this also. 17.10.2016 & 18.10.2016, Shri Chhabilendra Roul, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR) inaugurated Swachhta Pakhwada (16-31 October, 2016) at ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun, He appealed to join hands for transforming India in to Clean India. He urged to adopt and innovate measures to utilize solid and liquid waste management for pollution free environment. There is a need of attitudinal change for making India clean. On October 18, 2016, Krishi Vigan Kendra s of Jind observed Swachhata Awareness Campaign about not to burn root stubbles and importance of sanitation on the village path and surrounding area particularly congress grass and polythene bags was created. Spreading awareness among women of Sirmour during their exposure visit to KVK regarding environment friendly disposal of agricultural waste. Creating awareness among the school children regarding importance of cleanliness in their surroundings Interaction of KVK Scientists with farmers of local villages regarding judicial use of chemicals in horticultural crops as it causes environmental pollution and also hazardous to human and animal health. KVK Kapurthala KVK Campus organised awareness regarding importance of cleanliness and cleaning drive at village- Bhullar bet Lecture on lesser use of plastics and use of biodegradable resources.

At, KVK, Osmanabad Krishi Vigyan Kendra Distt. Osmanabad, Osmanabad Activities undertaken: 1. To create awareness amongst youth Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Mission, conducted Yoga in the presences of 54 college students and KVK, Staff. 2. Cleaning and sweeping of offices, corridors and premises, weeding out old records, disposing of old and obsolete furniture, junk materials in the premises. 3. Lectures were organized to create awareness amongst youth regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Mission, use of eco-friendly technologies, lesser use of plastics. 4. Demonstration on preparation of azadirectin & Spraying.

At, CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF POST-HARVEST ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY, LUDHIANA: CIPHET was commenced and celebrated with great enthusiasm. On 3rd day of the Swachhta Pakhwada, spraying of weedicide and fungicide was done at the residential area of main CIPHET, campus in order to make the campus clean and green. Dr. A.K. Singh, DDG Extension, visited Station, IIHR Bangalore and highlighted the importance of the national movement for Swachch and Swastha Bharat under Swachh Pakhwada and appealed to include this concept in all the on campus and off campus programmes.

KVK : Malappuram Activity Organized: Awareness on swatch bharath mission Details: Awareness programme on swatch bharath mission was conducted by Dr. Habeeburrahman P V, Programme Coordinator to around 60 VHSE students of Tavanur village. Hands on demonstration of management of organic waste by vermi composting was given by Dr. Sunil V G, SMS KVK : Coimbatore Activity Organized : Oath taken and Initiated Cleanliness in KVK campus.

At NRC on MEAT Dr Kulkarni spoke at length and briefed about the swachhata, adoption of eco-friendly practices, transparency in system and importance of punctuality and regularity in attendance. He also informed the proposed schedule of various events that would be taken up / conducted during the Swachhata Pakhwara. Subsequently, there was open discussion amongst staff, some of the staff have shared their views and discussed on various aspects of cleanliness, house keeping etc. Fig: Oath taking for Swachhta Pakkhwada on 17-10-16

At, ICAR-ATARI, ZONE-I, LUDHIANA FOR THE PERIOD OF OCTOBER 16-18, 2016 Following activities were carried out during Swachhata Pakhwada by ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana: ICAR-ATARI organised a Kisan Mela at KVK Kaithal on October 16, 2016 in which more than 1500 farmers from Haryana and Punjab were participated. KVK Kapurthala Administered Swachhta pledge to staff on 17.10.2016 cleanliness drive was carried out at KVK campus and village- Bhullar. On 18.10.2016 spread awareness regarding importance of cleanliness and lecture were delivered on no use of plastics and use of biodegradable resources. KVK Bilaspur KVK Bilaspur also administered Swachhta pledge to KVK staff carried out cleanliness of surroundings Near Panchayat Bhawan of Sargal Village KVK Moga KVK Moga also carried out following activities: Cleanliness drive around KVK surroundings launched (17.10.16) Oath taking ceremony by the staff of KVK (16.10.16) Awareness camp conducted in elementary school of adopted village NIdhanwala (18.10.16)

KVK Mohali KVK, Mohali has organized one day Swachhta Campaign in village Akalgarh under the Swachtta Pakhwada (15-30 th October, 2016) Abhiyan initiated by Ministry of Agriculture. A large number of farm women participated in this campaign. Faculty of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mohali delivered lectures on topics viz: Importance of Sanitation and Hygiene to improve quality of life, Safe and Portable water for drinking and Washing of Hands. Under this campaign, people of village actively participated in the cleanliness activities (cleaning of Gurudwara and ICDS Centre of the village) undertaken on that particular day. They along with the faculty of KVK took an oath to live in a safe and hygienic environment for the whole life. At, IINRG Ranchi For observing swachhta pakhwada a visit was made and lecture was delivered at Manguband village of Khunti district about 20 km from Ranchi on 18.10.2016. Twenty five persons

attended the same. Majority of the villagers belong to small and marginal farmers and are very much associate to lac cultivation. First of all, farmers were told about importance of cleanliness (swachhta) and the thinking of the Government in this regard. They were also appraised how the society will be benefited by the mission. Demonstration on improving kusmi lac yield on ber with the application of fertilizers is also running on the village. Importance of fertilizer application, spraying with pesticides was also discussed to the farmers. Light was thrown on right strategy that should be adopted. Last of all, a question answer session was kept for giving general awareness about lac trade and lac cultivation. For monitoring demonstration at Giuri village at Khunti district, insecticide and fungicide was given to the farmers for carrying out demonstration on ber trees for kusmi lac cultivation properly. Other necessary advisories regarding crop hygiene was also advocated to the farmers on the same day
