Certificate III in Surface Extraction Operations (RII30115) Qualification Status Current Qualification Descriptor This course is designed to provide new participants with the theoretical and practical skills and knowledge required for surface extraction operations in mines or quarries. This qualification also reflects the role of employees such as production operators in an open cut mine or quarry, who perform tasks such as environmental and safety requirements, operation of mobile plant and equipment, spreading and compacting materials and maintaining stockpile material. Importantly, existing workers who have experience in the industry but do not have recognised qualifications can also utilise this course as means of getting their current skills and competencies recognised through a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. Delivery The training can be delivered entirely on site at the employers premises and the structure is negotiated to meet the operational requirements of the business. This will include scheduled face to face visits by the Carey Training mentor who will also provide ongoing support and mentoring via email, telephone or visits for the duration of the program. All resources including manuals, assessment and reference materials will be provided. Assessment A Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process will be undertaken prior to the commencement of the training to identify the skills and knowledge the person has acquired through work experience, formal and informal training and / or general life experience. Once the trainer confirms the evidence of current competency a training plan can be negotiated. Ongoing assessments will be conducted throughout the program and may include completion of activity workbooks, actual or simulated workplace activities, observation of skills and knowledge applied within the workplace, written tests, research projects and informal / formal questioning.
