Who are we? Founded by Frank C. Mars in 1911, Mars is one of the largest food companies in the world and makes a lot more than just chocolate. Why work at Mars? A business built on The Five Principles From making M&Ms chocolate to taking care of your pets, everything we do begins with The Five Principles: Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency and Freedom. These values have guided our journey for 100 years and are much more than just words on a wall. Helping you reach your full potential We want you to have fun, be challenged and explore your skills every day. We take development seriously. Everyone has a personal development plan to help them grow and succeed. In it for the long haul, together Your long term career goals are important to us. European Engineering Leadership Program ( EELP ) ) As a European Engineering Leadership Program trainee you ll be keeping our success story moving forward. Finding new ways for engineering, pushing forward innovative ideas and leading technically complex projects across Europe. You ll make a big impact. Here at Mars, we think it is important that you can enjoy as many varied experiences as possible. From the moment you join, you ll be responsible for your own engineering project and become part of the European trainee community. You ll be a change maker too, changing how we do business while changing as you grow your capabilities. What will you be doing? We like to empower our people. You ll undertake three, completely different one year placements: In year one you ll manage your own project, such as designing a new production line for Pedigree or installing a new robotic wrapping machine for more than 800 Mars bars a minute. In year two, you ll live and work abroad, expanding your cultural awareness and deepening your engineering skills through a more challenging project. In year three, you ll gain your first line management experience, with your own team in a production or maintenance environment.

What will you get? We have an ongoing commitment to your growth and development and will provide you with a great line manager, a mentor, a coach and an EELP buddy, as well as opportunities to meet some of the best and brightest people in the business. While most of your learning will come through on-the-job-experience, you ll attend annual workshops to help you develop all the skills you ll need to become one of our future leaders and build a rewarding career. As an associate at Mars you can enjoy all kinds of great perks including a highly competitive benefits packages, open offices and fun freebies. Some of our locations even let you bring your pets to work! Where will I be working? There are opportunities at many of our sites across Europe. Your home site could be based in Poland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, UK, Hungary, Lithuania, Spain, Belgium, Austria or the Czech Republic. Who we re looking for We re looking for people who can build great leadership skills as well as develop their technical capability. You ll need to be full of drive and ambition to become one of our future leaders and enjoy responsibility. We have an open and collaborative culture, so building relationships and actively seeking out to engage and interact with others will be critical to your success. We look for certain features: International mobility. Fluency in English and another European language. Readiness to work in a multicultural team to solve business challenges through the application of leading-edge technology. A master s degree in mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering.

Mars Engineering Leadership Experience If I look now at myself from last year I can really see the significant change. Not only have I gained a lot of functional knowledge but I have grown as a person. From my first day I became a part of a big community, driven by similar values and The Five Principles. I found a place where I can develop myself and learn from others. A place where people are open and available when you need them. I was given two challenging projects, with real money to spend and a real change to make in the factory. When you know that the new emulsion dozing system, which will influence all lines in the factory, will improve the ways of working, hygienic conditions and quality of the product - you really feel your work matters. And what is great about Mars, you are never left alone, there are always people who would support you, What s the best part of the EELP? The best part of the program is that it gives you a lot of opportunities. You get a lot of responsibility and support at the same time. You can really grow, both personally and functionally. Maja Oil & Gas Engineering. Master of Drilling and Geoengineering, AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow, Poland Role: Project Engineer, UK (Year 2 EELP) Royal Canin What does a typical day look like to you? In the life of project engineer there are different phases. When you plan the project you dedicate your day to research, meeting with suppliers and different people. When you are awaiting for the equipment to be delivered you have more time to connect with colleagues, build your network and focus on your development. When you implement your project you spend your day in the factory, managing people and supervising. After that you look at what you did and feel proud.

EELP Journey My three placements were broad, managing projects in sustainability, innovation, refurbishment and value creation program. I started in The Netherlands. It s not everyday you get the opportunity to manage the metal detector refurbishment and implement the energy monitoring system, in the world s biggest chocolate factory. During my second year, I moved to our Mars ice cream factory in France. The M&Ms Ice Cream innovation project and leading the value leadership program both gave me great experience and exposure. My final placement was the Maintenance Project Leader in The Netherlands, leading reliability centred maintenance. My first role after the EELP is a Team Leader in our German Chocolate factory. Wherever you go within Mars, it s the people that are the greatest thing. They create the culture and atmosphere. I really enjoy the open, welcoming and fun environment and that everyone is driven to do their jobs with excellence. What s the best part of the EELP? There are many great aspects of the EELP program, however what I value most is how it has helped me to develop my leadership competencies. The workshops, my mentor sharing his experiences, the great line managers, my EELP buddy and my coach stretching me all supported me to become a Line Manager myself. What does a typical day look like to you? As a Team leader, I feel that there is no real typical day. There are some typical aspects, as checking in with my team for a progress update, taking part in the daily maintenance review. However, mostly my day is defined by the priorities of my team and myself. For example it can revolve around, helping or coaching team members, influencing stakeholders or preparing a new project. Laurens Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering. Master Degree in Manufacturing Networks, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands Role: Utility & Sustainability Team Leader, Germany (Alumni) M&Ms What s your favourite Mars brand? Right now I m addicted to M&M Crispy. Once I start, I can t stop eating them!

Meet our EELP Trainees In my first year I was a part of the Wrigley Regional Engineering team, being involved in European projects gave me many opportunities to develop and build my network. Taking all the experiences from my first year, I moved to the UK and this time the task is more complex, with a project budget of $5million. Knowing the Mars culture I have never hesitated to grab opportunities. Learning and succeeding becomes much easier when you are surrounded by the best engineers and managers in the business. Bartosz Chemical Engineering, University of Birmingham, UK Role: Project Engineer, UK (Year 2 EELP) Hubba Bubba Christian Master Degree in Automation Engineering. University of Aachen (RWTH), Germany Role: Change Agent, Germany (Year 3 EELP) Twix You get responsibility quickly here, in my first year I managed a 1.5M investment project in our German factory. Working in a cross-functional team with Food Scientists, Quality Experts and Health & Safety colleagues to install the new equipment and achieve the technical deliverables. In my second year I moved to France into one of our biggest M&Ms factories. Along with the cultural change, I experienced a new environment and ways of working, learnt new technologies and expanded my network.

I started my career at Mars, as a Lean intern in Pet food. Even as an intern we were given responsibility and encouraged to share our opinions. The Production Manager said I want the Sheba line to be more efficient by decreasing non quality cost. If you have good ideas, we can invest 110K. That s what is great about Mars, being a family owned business and living The Five Principles. Josselin Mechanical/Industrial Engineering. Master Entrepreneurship, Arts et Métiers, Paristech, France Role: M&Ms Team Leader, France (Year 3 EELP) Pedigree Michal Chemical Engineering, PhD, MEng, University of Sheffield, UK Role: Maintenance Team Leader, Poland (Year 3 EELP) Seeds of Change I love the international and cross segment scope of the program, I have worked in The Netherlands and Poland whilst on the program which broadened my horizon, not only on a functional side, but also personally, with the exposure to so many different people and their cultures. I have always wanted to work for a company where the result of my work would be a tangible product that millions of people around the world would enjoy. I joined EELP at Mars because I was looking for challenging projects in a fast-paced environment to stretch myself, develop my people skills and understanding of the business, and to ultimately accelerate my career into a technical leadership role. Rianne Chemical Engineering. Double Masters in Chemical Engineering and Science Education & Communication. University of Twente, Netherlands Role: Commercial Project Manager, Netherlands (Year 3 EELP) Snickers

What happens after the programme? Your final placement is usually a line manager role so after the program you are already part of our leadership structure. After that you can move upwards, sideways, across borders to roles such as a Regional Engineer, Maintenance Team Leader or Technical Manager. We don t think there s a more exciting place to bring your career and in terms of how far you can progress, the future is wide open.

Your recruitment journey We want the best possible people to join us. That s why we have a rigorous selection process you ll go through before securing a role with us. But rest assured we ll offer you the advice you need at every stage of the journey. And if you succeed, we ll make sure you have plenty of support so you can get off to a brilliant start. What to do next? If you are interested, visit Mars.com/careers and apply for European Engineering Leadership Program Trainee vacancy. If you re successful at the CV screening stage, you ll be invited to a telephone interview. If you are successful at this stage you ll be invited to a face to face interview and an assessment centre which will lead to a job offer for successful candidates. We hope we ve given you some useful insights into what it would be like to join us as an engineering trainee. And we look forward to seeing you soon.
