SVA Software Inc. BVQ - Infrastructure Performance Optimizer KEEP YOUR INFRASTRUCTURE BALANCED

THE INFRASTRUCTURE CHALLANGE Complex IT environments make infrastructure In other words: Don t waste your resources, optimize performance management (IPM) difficult and expensive performance and capacity utilization, set a service level, to achieve. Sucessful performance management requires a monitor it, continually analyze performance and react single solution to empower better decision making and pro-actively instead of re-actively. lower cost. Data growth is overwhelming IT infrastructures, on Three Basic Rules Can Help: CONTROL INFRASTRUCTURE EFFICIENCY Capacity INCREASE QUALIY OF SERVICE OPTIMIZE RESOURCES TO CONTROL COST Utilize all capacity Performance in some cases the increase is more than 70% per year. Utilize all performance capabilities 100% average data growth ranges from 40% to 60% per year, but 100% The target is to utilize 100% of all resources. IMPROVE QUALITY OF SERVICE IMPROVE EFFICIENCY CONTROL COST

BVQ - TURNING DATA INTO ANSWERS BUSINESS VOLUME QUALICISION (BVQ) Has revolutionized enterprise storage, server, SAN, and virtualization analysis and management by pulling all your IT data source details together into insightful, dynamic dashboards that lead to strategic decisions. BVQ is the most sophisticated and comprehensive performance and capacity monitoring analysis software in the market for IBM s Spectrum Virtualize family - IBM SVC, IBM FlashSystems, IBM Storwize, VersaStack and all existing and new heterogeneous storage. The BVQ platform provides insights into the performance and availability of your infrastructure across physical, virtual and cloud environments. A single pane of glass provides quick, easy, insight into the health of the IT infrastructure. BVQ can be deployed/consumed in multiple ways; as a local software implementation, as a service or as an affordable subscription based pricing offering from certified SVA Software partners. In all instances, customers will immediately see valuable and actionable insights to improve performance and availability for their environment. IMPROVE YOUR EFFICIENCY Efficiency is a very important issue: Optimizing the utilization of storage systems is the most cost-efficient way to store data. BVQ analytic balancing capabilities ensures all storage is optimized for performance and availability scenarios based on pre-defined SLAs. This ensures all resources are aligned to application workload requirements, guaranteeing a cost effective optimized infrastructure. BVQ IMPROVES COST EFFICIENCY BVQ gives you the power to visualize your entire data center performance and utilization in one easy-to-use interface. Empowering your company to benefit from higher utilization of your existing assets. REDUCE STORAGE COSTS

BVQ RISK MITIGATION IMPROVE QUALITY OF SERVICE In addition to reducing costs it is important to monitor and to continuously increase the quality of storage service. BVQ improves reliability and system uptime with BVQ's peak and bottleneck analysis capabilities. Asymmetric load situations may lead to so-called response time peaks which often cause severe problems for servers and applications. Asymmetric load distribution in storage can also degrade application performance. BVQ helps detect the root causes for bottlenecks and peak response times, ensuring business operations are optimized. from becoming barriers INTERACTIVE ACCOUUNTING BVQ can work with organizational objects such as cost centers, application groups, applications and volume groups. The SVC/Storwize volumes can be assigned to these organizational units, which then can be used for interactive reporting, charge-back and monitoring. Cost center identification, billing, assessment, estimation of capacity and performance consumption can be easily displayed, analyzed and created into accounting reports based on time, capacity and storage quality. The BVQ open ODBC interface allows tools like, Cognos Reporter or MS Excel to directly access prepared views in the BVQ database to fulfill companies reporting needs. CHARGE BACK MONITORED SERVICE-LEVEL

A SIMPLE AND CLEAR ONE SCREEN DESIGN FOR YOUR SUCCESS THE BVQ LAYOUT BVQ uses treemaps to display hierarchical data in the BVQ intelligent graphical interface The treemap view display hierarchical (tree-structured) data as a set of nested rectangles, delivering an intelligent colorful graphical interface that displays patterns that are easily interpreted into infrastructure optimization and cost saving answers! BVQ treemaps views are very flexible, customizable and easy to use. Switching between capacity and performance displays or changing between hierarchies, only takes a few mouse clicks, all views can be saved for quick reuse. The treemap provides a simple and comprehensible view of the entire storage environment and all associated devices. Everything is presented in a colorful graphical form showing the capacity used, free space and performance information in a single view, offering easy interpretation and analysis. Tree structured views are automatically focused on the most critical and concerning entities, as they are displayed in a larger format than the ones that are of minor interest. The user can go into detail very easily with one simple mouse, click leading into an analysis of almost every measurable item in the storage system. The treemap offers an in-depth view on storage details. This example shows the capacity of the pools, which volume belongs to the storage pool and the capacity of these volumes. Big volumes will be displayed larger than small volumes. BVQ provides the ability to migrate volumes between pools with a simple Drag and Drop action.

ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED ON ONE SINGLE SCREEN THE BVQ TREEMAP WITH HEATMAP OVERLAY TO EVALUATE PERFORMANCE UTILIZATION This innovative single screen view shows free storage pool capacity, all volumes in the storage pools, the capacity of the volumes and the performance characteristics of the storage pools, including color coding of all volumes. The treemap is the structure and the colors show the status. The administrator can decide where to best place data and what to do to balance the load on the system to avoid bottleneck situations. The color coding is simple to understand: The storage pool is green: The load on the pool and the selected storage class are appropriate. The pool on the right is blue: A sign that the performance capabilities of this pool cannot be exploited by the current volumes in this pool. Some more demanding volumes could improve the utilization of the pool. A volume or pool is blue: The volume or pool will not be able to consume the performance capabilities of this pool and should be moved to a more economical resource. A volume or pool is green: The volume shows adequate performance for this pool, this volume should not be moved from a performance perspective. A volume is red: This volume is using more performance than the pool delivers for its size and a decision should be made to move this volume into a better performing environment. A volume is yellow: This means that the volume is on the edge between green and red, additional performance requests will turn this volume into red. Easy to understand graphics show capacity and performance utilization in an easily interpreted view. You can easily drag & drop volumes between storage pools.

BVQ PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS BVQ PROVIDES PROACTIVE PROTECTION IT Administrators utilize BVQ views daily to ensure continuous availability and performances of their infrastructure. By doing so, they always know the current state of their data center and if their infrastructure is at risk. The resources at risk can be analyzed and the root cause of any potential issues can be identified and resolved immediately. Analysis can be executed at many levels such as volumes, managed disks, CPU, cache, managed disk group cache, ports (SAN), traffic between ports etc. BVQ EASE OF USE The graphic treemap representation of the data shows all relevant parameters, capacities, performance and optimization opportunities on one screen. System administrators are now able to monitor and analyze storage on different levels: An easy to understand monitoring level for daily tasks and an expert analysis level to uncover any critical situation within the storage. With BVQ a user is able to deliver a much higher level of service quality and proactive management to keep data centers running and reduce failure probability. BVQ analysis allows a very deep look into the storage system. It quickly uncovers critical situations and bottlenecks, such as the write cache overloads shown here Sizing with BVQ is based on facts and knowledge which allows you to optimize infrastructure cost

BVQ PERFORMANCE EDITION Monitors several SVC and Storwize systems in one installation Visualizes capacity and performance with the interactive BVQ Treemap View Supports in depth performance analysis with BVQ Performance View Reports information with the BVQ Reporting Engine or ODBC interface Analyzes IO density, response time compliance, capacity effi ciency and more with coloring overlays The BVQ Performance Edition can be enhanced with additional packages as depicted below. Installation time typically is only 1-2 hours. BVQ SERVER SETUP for example VMware guest system 4GB-6GB RAM BVQ application BVQ GUI The BVQ SVC scanner uses a network connection to the SVC cluster or Storwize system to retrieve the already existing performance files from the storage systems. This data will be integrated into the BVQ data structure and is available for analysis, monitoring and reporting. With the BVQ VMware scanner you can integrate vcenter storage related information into the same BVQ data structure to monitor VMware objects in context with SVC/Storwize objects. BVQ SVC scanner IBM SVC V7000 BVQ VMware VMware BVQ REPORTING ENGINE GO MOBILE WITH BVQ! An ipad or another tablet PC can be a target client for a BVQ server. These systems must be equipped with a remote desktop program which is easily available.

YOUR CORE BENEFITS The relevance of BVQ is enormous as at least 20% of all hardware expenses are storage related and storage is the foundation of client data centers today. The core issues are secure operation and cost effi ciency. Therefore, customers are in need of storage systems that offer not only high performance and reliability, but also signifi cant savings in operational costs. From a technical point of view, IBM storage systems like SVC, V7000 and V3700 are designed to support the customer with a number of saving options. Data can be stored in different storage classes, migrated transparently and Easy Tier allows automation in certain circumstances. This provides a profound technical basis - however, the question remains, how to use this for the measurement and classifi cation of performance and capacity needs. This is exactly where the signifi cant value of BVQ comes into play and introduces a new way of storage handling. With BVQ you can improve effi ciency, lower cost, increase performance and optimize load distribution. The graphic interface of BVQ is intuitive and process-oriented Standard tasks like data migration can be performed directly with drag & drop. The GUI simplifi es quick and fact based decisions whether volumes should be moved to a lower or higher value storage. With BVQ the system behavior can be balanced to improve capacity utilization, storage performance and to pro-actively avoid critical hot-spots. The quality of storage services is enhanced Proactive management is possible with continuous performance monitoring and early warning methods. Possible errors are detected before they become critical. Through the knowledge of the requirements, performance and capacity planning can be achieved. The in depth knowledge about the storage system also helps to raise awareness for critical changes. This will reduce outages and keep operations steady. Accounting is simplified Accounting is simplified by the capacity and performance capturing at many organizational levels. Storage class related accounting and trend analyses can be achieved with the BVQ reporting engine.

CUSTOMER SUCCESS CASE DHL DHL needed to modernize and extend their current storage capacity which was based on a SAN Volume Controller SVC.
