TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION COURSE ON INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY LEVEL-II Course Dates February 02 07, 2015 Venue ISNT Kalpakkam, IGCAR Organized by NATIONAL CERTIFICATION BOARD INDIAN SOCIETY FOR NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING Bangalore & Kalpakkam Chapter
BACKGROUND With the on-line condition monitoring technology becoming an inevitable part of maintenance strategy in today s scenario, non-contact type temperature monitoring methods have become more popular. Infrared Thermography is such a non-contact type technique, which provides a fast, reliable and accurate temperature profile of any material surface. It is a very useful condition monitoring aid for both electrical and mechanical equipment when used to identify hot spots (or cold spots in electric circuits). Identifying areas of equal temperatures (isotherms) in the baseline images and detecting variations by subsequent trending can provide very early warning signs of equipment failure. Thermography is also becoming importance in Nondestructive Evaluation of Composite, Metallic and Thin film structures in Aerospace, Electronic and Energy Industries. It is inevitable tool to Defense institutes for monitoring and survive valence. The need for Trained and certified manpower is in great demand in India as well as globally. However, there is no formalized Training and Certification program conducted in India. Hence Indian Society for NDT has formalized Infrared Thermography Level-II Training & Certification program as per SNT-TC-1A first time in India with support of Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Plasma Research. This certification program will be useful to Indian Industries to train their manpower working in the area of condition monitoring, NDE and surveillance using Infrared Thermography. COURSE CONTENT This course aims to provide the participants with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles of Infrared Thermal Testing and Image Processing. This would then be followed by intense practicals on calibration of thermal imaging systems and using of thermal imaging systems for condition monitoring, temperature measurement and NDE applications. The course will include, but is not limited to the following: Thermal Infrared Physics and Modes of Heat Transfer Thermal imaging: Equipments and Instrumentation Testing Techniques System performance and Calibration of equipments Application in the evaluation of composite materials detection of disbands, resin starvation, fiber disorientation Application for the evaluation of structural materials used in aerospace and other related industries Application for evaluation of structure and condition of building envelops for the evaluation of masonry deficiencies; defects in concrete detection of moisture in building structures and other building (civil) applications. Application in electric power distribution and transmission systems detection of defects as heat due to energy loss. Application in condition monitoring of chemical/petro-chemical industry for evaluation of furnace tubes, fluid transfer lines, wear estimation of refractories Inspection of rotary kiln lining, evaluation of heat resistant linings, etc. Application in the predictive maintenance of power plants and switchyards/ substations.
Application for bonded materials and structure evaluation of bond Integrity in bonded lap joints use of high emissivity materials to enhance inspection efficiency and other applications. Other applications of IR in medical, consumer industry art, conservation, automotive industry, vacuum systems, forest fire surveillance geothermal source survey rescue missions, etc. This course also includes a site visit to an electric sub-station and get familiar with the practical use of Thermography for maintenance. The combination of lectures, practical sessions and related handout materials will be an excellent knowledge bank that will be beneficial to all participants and their organisations. FACULTY Eminent faculty from reputed institutions and organisations such as Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research, GE Global Research Center, Indian Institute of Technology - Chennai, Indian Institute Technology - Delhi, National Aerospace Laboratory, Tata Steel and Institute of Plasma Research etc.. WHO CAN ATTEND This course is ideal for the novice NDE professionals, practicing Engineers, Energy audit professionals, maintenance, condition monitoring professional, researchers and QA personnel who intend to foray into the field of thermal imaging. It is also ideal for the personnel already involved in thermography as it would enhance their understanding and sharpen their skills with respect to image processing and interpretation. The course is also suitable for Supervisory personnel, Quality Assurance and practicing NDE surveyors.
