styrenics Sinkral for extrusion
versalis Sinkral ABS production site and research facilities versalis, the chemical company of eni, is a leading European producer of styrenic polymers. Our Sinkral ABS grades are produced in our Mantua, Italy plant. Our Research and Engineering are among our most valuable assets. Our proprietary technology, Sinkral Continuous Mass ABS, has allowed versalis to develop a very broad, versatile and competitive range of grades. Our product range for extrusion, in particular, is specifically designed to fit the most demanding needs of the final application fields. We work together with our customers in order to deliver outstanding products to the final markets of furniture, automotive and consumer goods industries.
OILFIELD CHEMICALS quality constancy Being a single step, closed loop, continuous process, versalis ABS technology ensures a superior lot-to-lot consistency, homogeneity and stability if compared to the traditional emulsion batch process; this means, from the user point of view, a more reliable and consistent raw material. Our site is ISO 9001 certified and production is constantly monitored through state of the art technology. ABS continuous mass advantage vs traditional emulsion processes in production during processing in the end use minimized use of chemicals and additives no waste water more efficient volatiles removal very stable process improved base color (self coloring) reduced gels content high thermal stability superior recyclability continuous process: quality constancy reduced volatiles content reduced odor and migration excellent surface finishing wide range of finished products (mattness/gloss requirements) 4
reduced volatiles content The continuous Mass Technology enables the manufacturer to implement a clean, energy efficient and environmentally friendly process. No solvents and additional chemicals are used in the process. Water consumption is reduced to extremely low rates. Moreover the Sinkral production process takes advantage of state of the art devolatilization technologies. With this features, the Sinkral product range stands as a leader in terms of Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) levels (fig. 1). In comparison, Sinkral contains on average 80% less volatiles than conventional ABS grades produced via the traditional emulsion process. Processing Sinkral allows to enjoy the benefits of lower odor and safer working environment. The same benefits are transferred to the final users allowing production of low TVOC finished goods. fig. 1 TVOC content comparison between typical emulsion ABS and Sinkral ABS TVOC content typical emulsion ABS Sinkral CM ABS 5
OILFIELD CHEMICALS a unique balance of performances Sinkral ABS extrusion grades exhibit a balance of mechanical properties unique in the market. Multiaxial impact (Ball drop test) represent the performance needs of extruded items better than monoaxial impact tests, such as Izod or Charpy. The excellent balance of Sinkral allows for reducing thickness without affecting the final mechanical performance of the item. The wide product range makes it possible to choose the most suitable grade in order to satisfy the peculiar needs of your application (fig. 2). fig. 2 mechanical properties balance of Sinkral extrusion grades compared with typical commercial ABS ranges 30 IZOD ISO kj/m 2 25 20 15 10 typical mass ABS B532/E B432/E B732/E typical emulsion ABS B4 VENEZIA 5 0 1500 1700 1900 2100 2300 tensile modulus, MPa 100 multiaxial impact - total energy, J 90 80 70 60 50 typical mass ABS B432/E, B4 Milano B532/E typical emulsion ABS B732/E B4 VENEZIA 40 1500 1700 1900 2100 2300 tensile modulus, MPa 6

OILFIELD CHEMICALS outstanding recyclability and stability Sinkral ABS offers the possibility to maintain its behavioral and aesthetical properties in a wide range of processing parameters. Compared with ABS produced via emulsion technology, Sinkral ABS is less sensitive to degradation and tolerates a higher recycle rate of scraps. fig. 5 optical and rheological processing stability of Sinkral compared to typical emulsion ABS grades yellow index viscoelastic parameter 200 220 240 260 processing temperature, C processing time typical emulsion ABS Sinkral CM ABS 8
