Herbicide Recommendations for Pepper UKREC Princeton, KY

Preemergence Herbicides

Command 3ME Rate: 0.4-01 0.1 pt t/a PRE for annual grasses and small-seeded broadleaves weed control Apply and incorporate 1 2 before transplanting. Use in combination with other herbicides like Treflan or Devrinol to broaden the weed control spectrum. Can be used on bell, hot, pimento, and sweet peppers pp but not on banana peppers. Be sure to set transplants with their roots below chemical barrier when transplanting.

Dacthal 6F Rate: 8 14 pt / A PRE for control of annual grasses and smallseeded broadleaves Over the top application 4 6 weeks after transplanting is safe to plants. Plants should be well established.

Devrinol 50DF Rate: 2 4 lb / A PRE for annual grass and broadleaf weed control Apply before transplanting and water-in or incorporate to a depth of 1-2. Can be applied on bareground middles between beds of plastic 24 hours before rain or if watered-in or incorporated. To avoid injury, do not replant with crops not specified on the label until 12 months if using the 4 lb rate.

Dual II Magnum 7.6E Rate 0.5 1.3 pt / A PRE for grasses and broadleaves weed control Apply as a surface broadcast application before transplanting or within 48 hours after transplanting. Can be used as pre- or post-transplant p directed, shielded spray to row middles. Use a min. 10 gal water/a. Use the high rate on silt and clay soils or high organic matter soils.

Goal 2XL Rate: 1 2 pt / A PRE for annual grasses and broadleaves weed control For fallow bed preparation only. Best if used with glyphosate gyp for control of winter annual broadleaf weeds. Min. 30 days between application and transplanting.

Prefar 4E Rate: 5 6 qt / A PRE for grasses and broadleaves weed control Apply preplant and incorporate to 1 2 depth. Apply preemergence only if it can be watered in within 36 hours. Max. rate of 6 qt/season.

Sandea 75DF Rate: 0.5-1 oz / A PRE for broadleaves and nutsedge weed control Can be applied in row middles of direct-seeded or transplanted pepper. Avoid contact with the crop or with plastic if plastic mulch is used. Max. 2 applications / crop and 2 oz / season.

Postemergence Herbicides

Aim 1.9EW Rate: 0.5 1.5 fl.oz. / A Contact POST for annual broadleaves and suppression of perennial broadleaves Can be applied as a preplant, pre-transplant t burndown, or before crop emerges to actively growing weeds up to 4 tall. Can also be applied postemergence as a directed hooded application between crop rows. Use min. 10 gal of water/a and crop oil 1% v/v. Max. rate 6.1 fl.oz./a. PHI = 0 days.

Goal 2XL Rate: 1 2 pt / A POST for annual grasses and broadleaves weed control For fallow bed preparation only. Best if used with glyphosate gyp for control of winter annual broadleaf weeds. Min. 30 days between application and transplanting.

Gramoxone Max 3L Rate: 1.3 2.7 pt / A POST for non-selective contact weed control Apply preplant, p preemergence, or before transplanting in min. 10 gal water/a. Apply banded or broadcast. Use higher rate for heavy weed infestations. Use non-ionic surfactant 0.25% v/v.

Roundup WeatherMax 5.5L Rate: 16 22 fl.oz. / A POST for non-selective systemic weed control Use only AMS 1 2% v/v. Adding a non-ionic surfactant can reduce weed control effectiveness. Min. 3 days between application and planting. Min. 30 days before planting any non-labeled crop.

Poast 1.5E Rate: 0.5 2.5 pt / A POST for grass weed control Apply on actively growing grasses. Use high rates for perennial grasses. PHI = 20 days. Max. rate of 1.5 pt / application and 4.5 pt/season. Add crop oil concentrate at 0.5 % v/v.

Scythe 4.2L Rate: 1 10% POST for non-selective contact weed control Use in min. 10 gal water/a if mixed with other herbicides or a min. 75 gal if used alone. Do not allow contact with crop foliage. Can be mixed with Roundup. See label for amount of Scythe to use depending on the desired spray volume.

Select 2E Rate: 6 8 fl.oz. / A POST for grass weed control Add crop oil 1% v/v. Max. 8 fl.oz. / application. Min. 14 days interval between applications. PHI = 20 days.

Treflan 4E Rate: 1.25-2 pt / A PRE for annual broadleaves and grasses weed control For transplanted pepper use only. Apply as preplant p soil incorporated before transplanting.
