Adhesive 7550 FAST-SETTING SKIM COATING COMPOUND DESCRIPTION Shaw 7550 is a high performance, fast-setting, cement-based skim coating compound for the finishing and smoothing of dry concrete, approved wood underlayments, properly prepared ceramic tile and non-water soluble adhesive residues. USES For skim coating unfinished, non- level, rough-textured concrete. For filling minor voids, holes and cracks in concrete and wood underlayments. For preparing and leveling wood underlayment seam joints. For skim coating over properly prepared ceramic tile (See Section 1.4). For repairing sub- floors from featheredge to 1/2" (12 mm). For skim coating well bonded, non-water soluble adhesive residues (over concrete) not subject to adhesive migration. Offers a compatible bond with all floor covering adhesives when subsequently used for the installation of a floor covering. RECOMMENDED SUBSTRATES Dry concrete* Any wood underlayment that is recommended or guaranteed by either the wood manufacturer or the floor covering manufacturer, such as Exterior grade plywood, Group 1, CC type Properly prepared ceramic tile Non-water soluble adhesive residues not subject to adhesive migration. *Test substrate for moisture content prior to installing Shaw 7550 and follow the recommendation of the floor manufacturer for maximum allowable moisture content. IMPORTANT TECHNICAL NOTES (Things to Remember) For interior installations only. Do not apply over presswood, flake board, metal or similar type substrates. Follow the floor covering manufacturer's recommendations regarding proper plywood underlayment qualities. Do not apply over gypsum-based substrates. - 1 -

Do not use as a concrete resurfacing material when concrete surface is to be left exposed or unprotected. Do not use for leveling large surfaces for applications greater than a skim coat. Instead, use Shaw s self- leveling underlayments (see Technical Data Sheets for details). Do not use at temperatures below 50 F (10 C) or above 100 F (38 C). Refer to Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before beginning installation. For other types of substrates or when special conditions exist, contact Shaw s Technical Services department for assistance. Do not install where a moisture problem exists. INSTRUCTIONS 1. Surface Preparation 1.1 General 1.1.1 All sub-floors must be structurally sound, solid, well- fastened, dry, clean and free of dust, oil, grease, tar, paint, wax, curing agents, primers, sealers, loosely bonded toppings, loose particles and any substance or condition that may reduce or prevent adhesion. 1.2 Concrete 1.2.1 Concrete sub- floors must be dry. 1.2.2 No primer or special bond coat is required. 1.3 Wood underlayment 1.3.1 All wooden floors must be well ventilated from below. 1.3.2 No primer or special bond coat is required. 1.4 Ceramic Tile 1.4.1 Ceramic tile must be sound, solid, well bonded, flawless, stripped clean and free of any contaminants or conditions that may prevent or reduce adhesion. Roughen surface by sanding or scarifying using appropriate safety precautions. 2. Mixing 2.1 Some settling may occur during transportation. Dry-blend powder before mixing. 2.2 In a clean mixing container, pour in 1 part water by volume, then gradually add 2 parts powder by volume while slowly mixing. Note: Water temperature should not exceed 73 F (23 C). Higher water temperature will shorten pot life. 2.3 Hand mix or use a low-speed mixer (approx. 300 RPM) to mix (maximum 3 minutes) thoroughly to a smooth, lump-free consistency. Do not mix more material than can be applied within 15 minutes. 2.4 Avoid air entrapment and prolonged mixing, which will shorten pot life. 2.5 Do not over water. 2.6 Wash hands and tools with water immediately after mixing. 3. Application - 2 -

3.1 Immediately apply the mixture to the substrate using a flat-edge steel trowel, finishing the surface to the required smoothness. 3.2 Protect from excessive heat or drafty conditions during curing period. 3.3 Wash hands and tools with water while material is still fresh. 4. Expansion and control joints 4.1 Protect existing expansion and control joints. Do not fill or cover expansion and control joints with Shaw 7550. 5. Cleaning 5.1 When fresh, Shaw 7550 is easily removed from hands, tools and equipment with water. If allowed to set and harden, it can only be removed through mechanical abrasion. 6. Protection 6.1 Provide for dry heated storage on site and deliver all materials at least 24 hours before work begins. 6.2 Protect from traffic, dirt or dust from other trades until final installation of floor covering. 6.3 Do not apply any adhesive or floor covering material before Shaw 7550 is completely dry. 6.4 Protect from excessive heat and drafty conditions while curing. 6.5 Shaw 7550 must be covered over with a floor covering material. TECHNICAL DATA (based on 73 F [23 C] and 50% relative humidity) Pot life Up to 15 minutes (varies depending upon water temperature and amount of mixing) Final set Approximately 60 minutes Drying time required before installation of floor covering Once the material has hardened so that applying an adhesive over the surface does not damage the surface. Drying time will depend upon thickness of application. Note: Allow Shaw 7550 to dry completely prior to the installation of floorings that are sensitive to moisture (such as wood, homogeneous pvc and rubber sports flooring). Shrinkage factor (28 days) Cleanability Color None With water while still fresh Gray Packaging 10 lb. (4,54 kg) pail Shelf life 6 months when stored in original unopened container at room temperature (73 F [23 C]) in a dry area. - 3 -

Approximate coverage per 10 lb. (4,54 kg) pail Skim coat 250-300 sq. ft. (23,2 27,9 m2) Note Quantities shown are approximate and are given for estimating purposes only. Actual job site coverage may vary according to substrate conditions, type of equipment used, actual thickness applied, handling and application. Health and safety Consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before using this product.
