Compare Systems. Common; Systems are needed to solve a problem or a need; savings, reduce waste, improve product, improve availability, etc... Systems compared; cost vs benefit ( Quantify the tangible & Intangible). Systems are a result of some sort of RFQ, meaning ( shopping ). It is decided that the value or ROI is acceptable. ( 13 )
Case: Aluminum Extrusion Process Details : - Client Produced 42 different sections. - Six of the sections have much higher sales volume. - Process inputs; Aluminum & Power. - Client needed a better costing scheme per section form. Further - Client has 2 power meters. - Client was on a MD Tariff with TOU. - Client had three production lines. - Each production line had an extruder and an arc furnace to heat the aluminum before the extrusion. ( 14 )
Case: Aluminum Extrusion Process Solution : - Client receives a file, matched to production schedule, with power consumption per mold. - Add protection for inrush current. - Client could now work on his energy consumption schedule as per his tariff. - Management can now better estimate costing per section/mold. - More advanced reports now include time-of-use power consumption. - Another project was later initiated, since we are already acquired voltage and current reading at all three extruder. With a little extra software development, the client can now include machine health. ( 15 )
Case: Capsicum Grading Machine Details : - Client is a Pack House / Farmer. - Client has a Euro 12M yearly contract to deliver capsicums to Europe. - Capsicum has to be graded based on ratio of shoulder width to length. - Grading was done manually. Further - Manual grading employed 15 people. - Rate started at 1200 kg/hr, and was down to 450 Kg/hr. - Grades are A, B, C and reject. - Manual grading cases damage to the capsicum. - Each container that is re-graded at destination is charged to our client. ( 16 )
Case: Capsicum Grading Machine The Solution: - An imaging based grading machine. - Includes 2 grading lanes at 3.5 units / second. - Machine capacity is at 2 Tons /hr maximum. Actually produces 1200 1500 Kg / hr - Machine requires 8 operators. Further - Software handles incoming product purchased from other farmers/growers. - Software handles cool area storage. - Software handles cool area check out to shipping containers. - System has multiple operator screen, at pack house entrance, grading machine, and cool area. ( 17 )
Case: Capsicum Grading Machine The Solution: - Full machine control, sensors, ejectors and motor drive. - Industrial PC running real-time OS, with 2 IEEE 1394 cameras. - Operator interface running on separate PC running windows OS. - All system developed on LabVIEW. ( 18 )
