SECTION 4 : First Aid Measures Swallowed: Eye: Skin: Inhaled: First Aid Facilities: Advice to Doctor: Rinse mouth with water. Give water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice immediately. Make every effort to prevent vomit from entering the lungs by careful placement of the patient. If in eyes, hold eyelids open and wash with copious quantities of water for 15 minutes. Seek medical advice immediately. Wash contaminated skin with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. If irritation occurs seek medical advice. Move to fresh air. Seek medical advice if nausea or vomiting occurs. Ensure eye bath and safety shower are available and ready for use. Treat symptomatically. If vomiting has occurred, vomitus may have been aspirated into the lungs which may cause lung damage. SECTION 5 : Fire Fighting Measures Suitable extinguishing media: Water Fog, Foam, Carbon Dioxide, Dry Chemical. Avoid using large volumes of water which would spread the product. Hazards from combustion products: In the event of a fire the following can be released: Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen and possibly traces of hydrogen chloride. Precautions for fire fighters and special protective equipment: If exposed to fire, keep container cool by spraying with water. Fire fighters should wear self-contained breathing apparatus if risk of exposure to vapour or products of combustion. SECTION 6 : Accidental Release Measures Emergency procedures: Slippery when spilt, clean up immediately. Wear protective equipment to prevent skin and eye damage. Methods and materials for containment and clean up: Prevent run off into drains and waterways. Contain spills with absorbent material such as sand or soil. Collect and seal in properly labelled containers for disposal. Dispose of in accordance with all Local, State and Federal regulations at an approved waste disposal site. SECTION 7 : Handling and Storage Precautions for safe handling: Marker dye is coloured and will strongly stain skin and clothing. If skin has been exposed to the product, thorough washing with soap and water will remove any excess product. The colour on the skin is not deep and will naturally disappear over a few days. Conditions for safe storage: Store in the closed, original container in a cool, well ventilated area. Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight. SECTION 8 : Exposure / Personal Protection National exposure standards: NOHSC has set the following exposure standard for diethylene glycol: TLV (TWA) 100mg/m 3, STEL - Biological limit values: None Allocated. Engineering controls: Ensure adequate ventilation to keep exposure levels to a minimum. Personal protective equipment: Wear safety glasses or goggles, impermeable gloves (PVC or neoprene) and overalls. Hygiene measures: After use and before eating, drinking or smoking, wash hands, arms and face thoroughly with soap and water. After each day s use, wash contaminated clothing and safety equipment. Hazardous decomposition products: Avoid contact with aluminium, alumin alloys, copper rich alloys and neoprene. Hazardous reactions: Violent reactions between marker dye and oxidising agents are possible. SECTION 11 : Toxicological Information Inhalation: Ingestion: Skin : May cause irritation to mucus membranes and respiratory tract. The components of the product are of low volatility and no adverse effects are expected from handling the concentrate. Breathing vapour can result in headaches and nausea. Possible symptoms of exposure include: Nausea, vomiting and central nervous system depression. Prolonged contact with the concentrate may cause irritation. Eye : Carcinogenicity: Acute Toxicity: Oral Eye Irritation Skin Irritation product will stain the skin which may persist for some time. Prolonged contact with the concentrate may cause damage to the eye. Rhodamine B has been assessed in animals and some data exists that Rhodamine B is a substance which causes some concern for humans owing to possible carcinogenic effects from long tern exposure, but in respect of which the available information is not adequate for making a satisfactory assessment. Rhodamine B was recently included on the US EPA list 4B: Minimal Concern. Ingredients: Minimal Concern (List 4B) substances for which EPZ has sufficient information to reasonably conclude that the current use pattern in pesticide products will not adversely affect public health or the environment. LD50 (rat) 400-2000 mg/kg for Rhodamine B The product is an eye irritant. Mild skin irritant. SECTION 12 : Ecological Information Other Precautions: Do not contaminate dams, waterways or sewers with this product. Acute Toxicity - Fish: LC50 (96hr) for fish is 10-100 mg/l for Rhodamine B SECTION 13 : Disposal Considerations Product Disposal: On site disposal of the concentrated product is not acceptable. Ideally, the product should be used for its intended purpose. If there is a need to dispose of the product, approach local authorities who hold periodic collections of unwanted chemicals. Container Disposal: Do not use this container for any other purpose. Triple rinse containers, add rinsate to the spray tank, then offer the container for recycling/reconditioning, or puncture top, sides and bottom and dispose of in landfill in accordance with local regulations. If not recycling, puncture or shred and bury in local authority landfill. Empty containers and product should not be burnt.
