Major Operational Units of the Ministry General Directorate of Forestry (GDF) Responsible for protection development and management of nearly 75% public forest. It has separate and semi- independent status. It is quite strong with big institutional, technical, personnel and financial source(rolling capital budget + special bud.) capacity Gen. Directorate of Nature Protection and National Parks is responsible for planning, arranging and improving national parks, natural parks, natural monuments, protected wildlife reserves and recreation spots Gen. Forest Cover in Turkey Forest area is 21,7 mil. hectare, which constitutes 27 % of the overall land area 99 % of forests is state owned, the majority is managed by GDF 61% of the forests is coniferous and 39% is non-coniferous tree species. Land Area: 78 million hectares and Population: 77 million Turkey is a land bridge between Europe and Asia 7
