Q Center Board of Directors Application Packet Application Procedure Submit a complete application packet consisting of this application, your most recent resume, and up to three professional or personal references. You may deliver your application packet to the Q Center front desk (to the attention of the board of directors) or email it to: leadership@pdxqcenter.org. 1. The onboarding team will review your application packet. 2. A team member will contact you within two weeks regarding next steps. Qualifications The board of directors seeks diverse applicants who bring a range of skills, experience, and community representation to Q Center leadership. Ideal candidates will have some or all of these qualifications: Identify along the sexual and/or gender minority spectrum, or have a history of working in and with these communities. Be familiar with and passionate about Q Center and its programs and services; program participants and volunteers are encouraged to apply. Have previous experience and connections in local community and civic leadership, including social justice activism, community organizing, volunteerism, and direct services. Have a history of successful teamwork, interdisciplinary collaboration, and coalition building in intercultural groups and communities. Bring needed expertise to the board, including professional experience in non-profit management, traditional and grassroots fundraising, communications, social services, law, finance, IT/IS, and organizational development. Board Member Responsibilities Q Center accepts rolling applications for new volunteer board members. In order to ensure that our leadership team reflects the diversity of Portland s LGTBQ community, we actively seek applications from sexual and gender minorities;
people of color; seniors, youth, and young adults; and people with disabilities. Board members must be committed to social justice, be willing to participate in anti-oppression training, and be able to bring an intersectional lens to LGBTQ community building at Q Center. Before you submit an application, please be certain that you can commit to a working board. In addition to monthly board meetings and work in subcommittees, board members assist with special events and other tasks that support Q Center s mission, operations, and financial sustainability. The minimum time commitment to serve on this board is 10 hours per month. As a prospective member of the Q Center board of directors, I agree to: Actively learn about and engage with the history and mission of Q Center. Be an ambassador and advocate for Q Center in my public engagements. Be a resource for Q Center staff, volunteers, and community members. Develop my awareness of the social, economic, and political issues affecting different communities at Q Center. Participate in one or more Q Center-sponsored anti-oppression trainings. Work collaboratively and in good faith with fellow board members, staff, and community members to develop sound policies and decisions for the governance of Q Center as a whole.
