- 2 - MAIN CARGO GUIDELINES Steel Cargo Discharge (Only at Rio Haina) This cargo is discharged from the vessel s cranes to the dock and from the dock is shifted with forklift to an open storage yard located near the pier. The rates of discharge are as follows: Wire Rods 70 to 120 MT per gang per hour Rebars 60 to 75 MT per gang per hour Steel Billets 60 to 85 MT per gang per hour Steel Plate 60 to 75 MT per gang per hour Steel Pipes 30 to 60 MT per gang per hour Steel Coils 120 to 150 MT per gang per hour Tin Plate 90 to 120 MT per gang per hour Note: There is a restriction from stevedores union that does not allow operations from 0000-0800 hrs. with steel pieces longer than 20 feet. In the case that working is a must, it is possible but then stevedores union include additional set of charges per gang. General Cargo: This cargo is discharged at Santo Domingo & Rio Haina from the vessel s cranes to the dock and from the dock is shifted with forklifts to the port warehouse or to an open storage area alongside the pier. The rates of discharge are as follows: Pallets 25 to 50 MT per gang per hour Big Bags 40 to 50 MT per gang per hour Paraffin Wax (Loose) 10 to 15 MT per gang per hour Lumber (Lo/Lo) 30 to 48 MT per gang per hour
- 3 - Lumber (Ro/Ro) 70 to 100 MT per gang per hour Vehicles (Lo/Lo) 12 units per gang per hour Vehicles (Ro/Ro) 100 units per hour Grain Cargo in Bulk (Soy Bean Meal / Corn / Wheat): Receivers at Rio Haina & Puerto Plata work this cargo only fm 0800 2400 hrs daily including Saturday & Sunday (no work is performed fm 0000-0800 hrs) with a rate of about 3,500 to 4,000 mt per day basis on 4 gangs discharging with grabs to hoppers to trucks. Stevedores supply hoppers and grabs. The same system is used at San Pedro de Macoris by one receiver (Molinos del Higuamo) to discharge wheat with a rate of discharge of abt 3,500 MT per day. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday 0800-1700, Saturday 0800-1200 & Working after that period is over time. At the port of Santo Domingo, there is only one receiver for wheat (Molinos del Ozama) who have vacuvator for discharging which consist in one ship unloading tower, one boom with one pipe (vacuvator) connected onto a belt conveyor and delivering the wheat directly to the port silos which have a capacity of abt 55,000 MT. This Receiver work around the clock with a discharging rate of abt 3,500 mt per day. Yellow Grease & Tallow by Tanker vessels: This cargo is only discharged at the port of Rio Haina or Santo Domingo from vessel to tank trucks of 25 to 30 MT capacity per truck. It is very important to note that the Vessel gear and at least one hose of 4 inches must be made available for discharge and receivers only supply tank trucks even though there are some receivers who supply their hoses. Discharging rate is about 60 MT/ hour. Time lost waiting for trucks is usually expected during discharge operations. There are not taxes and or dues for owners account on free out terms.
- 4 - Vegetable Oil by tanker vessels: This cargo is only discharged at the port of Rio Haina from vessel to tank trucks of 25 to 30 MT capacity per truck. It is very important to note that the vessel gear must be made available for discharge in order to support hoses and receivers only supply one hose of 4 inches diameter & tank trucks. Discharging rate is about 120 MT/hr and there are no taxes and/or dues for owners account on free out terms. Luboils Discharge by Tanker vessels: This cargo is discharged at the port of Rio Haina for only one receiver (Lubricantes Dominicanos, S.A.) and the vessel is docked at berth No. 6 (east bank) where there is only one hose which is 6 inches in diameter and the distance is about 700 meters from the vessel to the storage tank on shore. Discharging rate is about 120 MT/hr and there are no taxes and/or dues for owners account on free out terms. Clinker Discharge Method of discharging at San Pedro de Macoris, Rio Haina & Manzanillo is by ship s cranes and also the vessel has to supply grabs (Self Unloader) as receivers only supply hoppers located alongside the berth. Work is performed by receivers around the clock. Estimated daily discharge production at San Pedro de Macoris is about 6,500 to 8,000 mt per day, at Rio Haina the rate is abt 4,500 to 5,000 MT per day and at Manzanillo rate is abt 6,000 MT per day.
- 5 - Mineral Coal Discharge at ITABO power plant terminal The cargo receiving equipment at ITABO port are rated to receive cargo at a maximum unloading rate of 2750 metric tons per hour during the vessel s free digging evolution. There is another receiver for coal (Cementos Cibao) who use the port of Manzanillo and Method of discharging is by ship s cranes and also the vessel has to supply grabs (Self Unloader) as receivers only supply hoppers located alongside the berth. The rate of discharge is abt 6,000 MT per day. Loose Bags of rice, sugar, fertilizer or Cement. The rate of discharge or load in all main ports in the Dominican Republic is about 12 to 15 MT per gang per hour. Stevedore Union only work bagged cargo daily from 0800 2000 hrs and it is possible to work around the clock but the production rate fm 0000 0800 falls by more than half the normal rate and there is an extra stevedore charge. Loading Lime stone, Bauxite and aggregates (only at Cabo Rojo port): The system for loading consists that cargo is placed alongside the pier by truck, payloaders feeds a hoper and conveyor belt system load the vessel. No ship s gears will be necessary (mechanical loading) and vessels berth starboard side to pier. Normal working hours is Monday thru Friday 0800-1600hrs & Saturday 0800-1200hrs. Estimated loading production is abt 800 mt/hour for lime stone, abt 650 mt/hour for aggregates and abt 350 mt/hour for bauxite and shipper work around the clock.
- 6 - Loading bulk sugar at La Romana port: Method of loading is by two elevators with a loading rate of 325 mt/hr and shipper work around the clock. This is a private port & Central Romana (owner) do not permit bunkering inside the harbor. Also pls note that barging service is not available. Only vsl can supply fresh water inside the harbor. Loading bulk sugar at San Pedro de Macoris or Puerto Plata ports: Method of loading is that the cargo will be transported in bags by trucks from the sugar mill to the wharf in Puerto Plata where the bags will be cut open in the hatch cover and poured into the hold of the ship and the loading rate is about 12 to 15 MT per gang per hour.
