Index Sound insulation in timber frame houses 3 Modern dry screed compared to a conventional wet screed 4-5 SOUND INSULATION IN TIMBER FRAME HOUSES Modern timber frame house construction is healthy and very ecological. The timber material creates a cosy atmosphere. It is ideal for all ecological homes from detached to multiple residential buildings. Wolf Bavaria concept for modern dry screed flooring systems 6 Wolf Bavaria Floor Systems - Sound insulation and dry screed with underfloor heating 7 Wolf Bavaria measure the improvement in sound insulation 8 Example of measurements through ceilings with exposed joists 9 Wolf Bavaria PHONESTAR sound insulation and dry screed board 10-11 Wolf Bavaria exclusive underfloor heating and PHONESTAR sound insulation board 12-13 Wolf Bavaria Decoupling Board 14 Simple installation 15 From Professionals to Professionals - one stop service 15 Due to low-energy constructions being the norm now, thermal insulation is very topical and there are many excellent solutions available. However acoustic insulation in timber frame constructions is still a technical challenge. Wood can conduct sound along its grain at a speed of up to 5700 m/s. This is actually higher than the speed of sound through concrete or poroton bricks. Timber floor constructions transmit a substantial amount of airborne and impact sound, regardless of whether a solid wood or timber joist floor is installed. For that reason it is very important to have good sound insulation in floor and wall constructions. A common solution is to pour a wet screed onto the floor but this introduces a huge volume of water into a building with previously dried timber floors. As a consequence there is a long drying time of up to 8 weeks and also a danger of mould formation at a later stage. It is much more beneficial to use the totally dry combination of PHONESTAR acoustic insulation board and the underfloor heating system. These products are easy and quick to install and are ready to walk on and use almost immediately. The following trades can be introduced 24 hours later rather than having to wait for up to 8 weeks for a wet screed to dry sufficiently. WOLF BAVARIA 3

*BY COMPARISON: WET SCREED WOLF BAVARIA DRY SCREED SYSTEM S SOLUT ions HANDLING Wet screeds need to be supplied and poured by a specialist firm CONSTRUCTION PERIOD It takes 8 weeks approximately for the screed to dry adequately before further trades can be introduced. (This depends on the weather and the screed height) SOUND INSULATION Impact sound results through typical wet screed floors have been tested to give a 55 db result INSTALLATION HEIGHT/ WEIGHT Loss of room height of approx 80-120 mm. There will be a high load bearing on the floor due to the wet screed - up to 10,000 kg/ m 2. This extra weight can be a problem in refurbishments or on timber floors. COSTS The costs are very similar to our dry screed systems Lnw= 55 db Lnw= 43 db PhoneStar PowerFloor HANDLING Due to the modular design of our dry screed sound insulation system, it is easier and quicker to install CONSTRUCTION PERIOD Due to the fact that no drying time is required, the construction period will be reduced by up to 8 weeks. After 24 hours the floor is ready for further construction work. The risk of mould formation is avoided due to the dry system. SOUND INSULATION Excellent airborne and impact sound insulation values will be provided when the PHONESTAR sound insulation board from Wolf Bavaria is used as part of the modular system. INSTALLATION HEIGHT/ WEIGHT The installation height of the floor can be decreased by up to 8 cm. The weight of each storey can be reduced by several tonnes. A saving of up to 2000 is possible with a 2 cm thinner solid timber ceiling. COSTS Costs for both systems are almost identical. It pays off. Impact sound has been tested to show an improvement of up to 12 db compared to the wet screed f oor. Humans perceive a 10dB reduction as a halving of the sound. WOLF Decoupling plate PhoneStar PowerFloor MODULAR DESIGN SYSTEM SOLUTIONS - SUITABLE FOR ALL TYPES OF FLOOR Over the past 10 years Wolf Bavaria has offered technical advice on the optimum method for acoustically insulating thousands of wall, floor and ceiling structures. There must be very few structure types that we have not provided advice on at this stage. We have a selection of dry screed solutions suitable for bare floors. These can be used with or without our underfloor heating system,. The degree of acoustic insulation provided can be adjusted according to the requirement. PHONESTAR boards can be doubled up to give a superior level of sound insulation. The following construction designs illustrate the flexible, modular design possibilities that are possible with our floor systems. These dry construction elements offer a combination of excellent sound insulation and effective surface heating. They have many benefits over wet screeds Underfloor heating on timber floor Tiled floor glued? WOLF Decoupling Plate glued 4 3-6 This PHONESTAR and floor system is very simple and quick to install and is ready to walk on after 24 hours. Finished flooring such as laminate can be laid floating directly on the system. Tiled flooring must be glued onto the WOLF- DECOUPLING PLATE. The exclusive aluminium plate on the top of the SLIMLINE underfloor heating system distributes the heat fast and evenly. Aluminium conducts heat 150 times faster than concrete screed. This fast response time improves the quality of living comfort and decreases annual energy costs. WE ENHANCE LIVING COMFORT AND CAN PROVE IT! PRACTICAL EXAMPLES Comparative measurements of impact sound insulation level through floors Exposed joists on ceiling with wet screed - floor height 130 mm Exposed joists on ceiling with PHONESTAR dry screed - floor height 130 mm The lower the impact sound result the better the impact sound insulation L n, w = 65 db L n, w = 53 db PRIOR MEASUREMENTS CONSULTATION FOR SYSTEM OPTIONS RE- TESTING AFTER UPGRADE We can measure the sound insulation provided by a floor. A tapping machine on the floor above generates impact sound which is transmitted through the floor. The resulting sound in the receiving room below is measured. These measurements in buildings can be standardised to give the impact sound pressure level. The result is shown as a sound insulation graph across the frequency range in accordance with ISO standards. This means that different constructions can be compared to each other in a true and fair way. Airborne sound is measured by using a dodecahedron loud speaker as the sound source in the sending room and the airborne sound through the floor structure is then measured in the receiving room. This experience allows us to build our knowledge base. We offer advice on the use of PHONESTAR dry screed sound insulation panels within floor structures in both modern timber frame constructions and in refurbishment situations. This system is superior to the classic wet screed system for several reasons. After the consultation and installation, the floor structure is then measured again for airborne and impact sound. We continuously demonstrate optimised system configurations. This leads to many satisfied planners, construction companies, retailers and home owners. The PHONESTAR floor system can provide a 10 db impact improvement with the same floor height. A person perceives a 10 db improvement as a halving of the sound! Airborne sound insulation measurement according to DIN EN ISO 140-4, Impact sound insulation measurements according to DIN EN ISO 140-7 These measurements are from on-site test results 8 WOLF BAVARIA WOLF BAVARIA 9

PhoneStar SOUND INSULATION AND DRY SCREED IN ONE PHONESTAR is an innovative and very effective sound insulation board, consisting of the environmentally friendly raw materials - wood and sand. These high mass materials consist of heavy corrugated cardboard and high density silica sand. The slim PHONESTAR boards significantly reduce both airborne and impact sound. At only 15 mm thickness, a PHONESTAR board on its own, provides up to 36 db (Rw) of airborne sound insulation. * * Product Overview of WOLF BAVARIA PHONESTAR - Sound insulation and dry screed boards for timber frame buildings and refurbishments PHONESTAR TRI PHONESTAR PROFESSIONAL PHONESTAR TWIN PHONESTAR ST TWIN PHONESTAR ST TRI Product Structure L x W x H in mm m 2 / board kg/m 2 3 parallel 3 cross fluted 2 parallel 2 parallel 3 parallel 1250 x 625 x 15 1200 x 800x 15 0,78 0,96 1200 x 800x 15 0,96 18 1250 x 625 x 10 1200 x 800x 10 0,78 0,96 1200 x 800 x 9 0,96 11,5 13 ETA N 13/0411 1200 x 800x 12,5 0,96 17,5 18 12 Nr.
