A Multi-Purpose Hydrogen Infrastructure Solution The Stuart Energy Station (SES) is the world's first multi-purpose hydrogen infrastructure product portfolio that transforms electricity into stored highvalue hydrogen energy. The SES then redeploys the stored hydrogen, on demand, as high-value energy either as fuel for vehicles, as electricity for peak shaving and back-up power, or for industrial applications. Electricity Sources Electrical Grid Solar Wind H 2 H 2 Power Generation The SES is comprised of five modules that can be sold as individual systems or combined to form an integrated system. The modules include: 1 - Hydrogen Generation, 2 - Compression, - Storage, 4 - Fuel Dispenser, and/or 5 - Power Generation. Hydrogen Generation The SES Hydrogen Generation is based on emission-free electrolysis technology that generates hydrogen gas reliably, safely and on-site. Compression The Compression raises the hydrogen gas to a desired pressure, currently up to 414 bar (6,000 psi). Storage The SES Storage, available in carbon steel or carbon-fibre composite tanks, is designed to international hydrogen storage safety standards. These three modules are the typical SES configuration for many industrial applications including manufacturing semi-conductors, glass and edible oils, as well as cooling generators at power generation stations. Water Hydrogen Generation/ Compression s Fuel Dispenser The SES Fuel Dispenser (SES-f for vehicle fueling) can deliver hydrogen as well as mixtures of hydrogen and natural gas. Power Generation Adding a Power, which uses either a hydrogen powered internal combustion engine (H2ICE) genset or fuel cell to generate electrical power, allows the SES (SES-p) to provide backup power, peak-shaving and off-grid distributed power generation. A fully configured SES-fp combines both vehicle fueling and power generation capabilities. Storage Fuel Dispenser Scalable Solution The SES product line is scalable in capacity from residential generation systems to commercial scale fueling and power stations, to large-scale industrial installations. The concept of the multiple-use SES can be scaled down to meet the fueling and power needs of a household or small community.

Hydrogen Generation The SES Hydrogen Generation is a water electrolysis based product that generates high-purity hydrogen, and oxygen, for use in a variety of applications. Electrolysis is an efficient and emissionfree method of generating hydrogen. In electrolysis, electricity is used to separate water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen, by passing an electric current through an alkaline electrolyte solution between two electrodes. The hydrogen and oxygen are kept separate after the electrolytic reaction by highly efficient inorganic membranes, and then channelled to separate hydrogen and oxygen vessels. Electrochemical diagram of electrolysis. Vandenborre IMET Technology Vandenborre IMET Technology is a pressurized alkaline electrolyser that generates high-purity hydrogen at pressures up to 25 bar (6 psi) directly from the electrolyser. The patented membrane technology, which prevents the hydrogen and oxygen from recombining, is developed and manufactured in-house, allowing the Company to maintain a high level of quality control. This proprietary technology simplifies compression and gas handling systems, and is ideally suited for all applications. Vandenborre IMET Technology features electrical connections that automatically ground the unit making the Vandenborre IMET Technology one of the safest electrolysers on the market. In addition, this technology is highly efficient with an electrical consumption of 4.2 kwh per Nm of hydrogen produced (steady state), and an overall module consumption of 4.8 kwh per Nm of hydrogen produced (including auxiliaries). The standard SES Hydrogen Generation is configured with our leading edge proprietary Vandenborre IMET technology.

Benefits of Vandenborre IMET Technology Virtually maintenance-free On-site and on-demand production Reliable supply, and efficient delivery of hydrogen Flexibility to meet a customer s specific needs Multi-use system Easy to install Safe operation Pumpless electrolyte circulation; minimal moving parts. Variable hydrogen production from 25-100% of capacity. >98% availability; efficiently manage hydrogen inventories. Vandenborre IMET is scalable producing from 1 Nm /h to 60 Nm /h (optional up to 120 Nm /h) of hydrogen. Vandenborre IMET generates argon and oil-free oxygen, and additional purification packages can be added. Delivered in plug & play packaging for indoor or outdoor use; minimal commissioning time; uses readily available water and electricity. Asbestos-free; meets international codes and standards (PED, TÜV, ASME, CE). Standard Purity The SES Hydrogen Generation can also be supplied with a standard deoxo-drier purification package for fuel cell grade hydrogen. The deoxo vessel removes entrained oxygen through a catalytic reaction, and the drier removes humidity remaining in the gas by a molecular sieve adsorption system. Our standard purity after standard compression and purification is as follows: (Total parts per million = ppm) Nitrogen 12 ppm Oxygen 5 ppm Water 10.7 ppm* Hydrocarbon trace CO 2/CO trace Max Impurities 27.7 ppm Purity Level > 99.997 % *-60 C atm dew point Vandenborre IMET Technology 1000 series cell stack Easy to use Remote monitoring available; fullyautomated operation. Optional High Purity Applications Even higher levels of hydrogen purity, up to a maximum purity of 99.9995%, can be achieved with additional equipment including nitrogen removal.

The SES Compression currently raises the pressure up to 414 bar (6000 psi). Our standard Compression is offered with a diaphragm compressor. Other compressors including reciprocating compressors can be integrated into the module, as part of an optional package. Standard Package - Diaphragm Compressor: Superior life cycle cost Gas does not come into contact with lubricants, ensuring high purity Highly reliable design for longer maintenance intervals Flexible capacity range Can accept inlet pressure Optional Package - Reciprocating Compressor: Achieves high levels of compression with low power consumption Different pressures can be achieved using the same Compression. Compression technology is currently under development to attain 700 bar (>10,000 psi). Typically, to minimize footprint and maximize efficiency, the Compression is housed in one unit with the SES Hydrogen Generation.

Storage The Stuart Energy Station Storage is composed of a series of storage tanks mechanically connected and electronically controlled by proprietary software. The Storage receives hydrogen directly from the Hydrogen Generation/Compression s. When hydrogen is required, the flow is managed according to customer requirements. The SES Storage is available in two types of tanks, steel and composite. Both options are available in two configurations, buffer or cascade storage. A customer s specific requirements will determine which configuration is used. Stuart Energy s SES Storage s are designed to conform to North American and/or European codes and standards. Buffer Storage A buffer storage system stores the required amount of hydrogen using a simple configuration consisting of a series of interconnected tanks that are filled and emptied as if they were one large tank. Hydrogen enters the system via a single control valve, and is delivered from the rack through another control valve. During delivery, the pressure inside all the tanks drops simultaneously. This means that to attain a certain desired pressure, the initial pressure in the tanks must be higher than the desired delivered pressure, or that the fill is assisted by simultaneous operation of a booster compressor. Versatile; adaptable for a wide range of applications Simple design Lower capital cost Allows multiple pressures to be dispensed per customer requirements Easy to maintain and simple to use Cascade Storage The cascade system consists of storage tanks arranged in a series of banks managed by a control system that determines which bank is able to receive or deliver hydrogen. When hydrogen is required, the first bank delivers hydrogen until the pressure inside this bank equals that of the receiving tank. As the pressure equalizes, the next bank begins to deliver its store of hydrogen, and so on. By sequencing the banks in this manner, some hydrogen is always kept at a higher pressure so that more complete vehicle fills can be obtained from the same volume of hydrogen storage. Best suited for intermittent fast-fill vehicle fueling Minimizes on-site hydrogen storage Allows multiple pressures to be dispensed per customer requirements Easy to maintain and simple to use

Fuel Dispenser The Stuart Energy SES Fuel Dispenser is available with a variety of options that meet the personal or commercial fueling needs of any customer. The Fuel Dispenser consists of a hose and nozzle, and a system that controls the operation of the dispenser and the flow of hydrogen or hydrogen natural gas mixture to a vehicle. The experience of using an SES Fuel Dispenser is very similar to that of using a conventional natural gas dispenser. A customer selects the proper fill pressure from the user-friendly interface and attaches the hose to their vehicle s refueling receptacle. Stuart Energy s proprietary system manages the rest of the fueling process. The system determines when the tank is full and automatically stops dispensing. After disconnecting the nozzle, the customer simply drives away. Dispenser Safety Features Many of the features and options of the SES Fuel Dispenser are designed to make the fueling of a hydrogenpowered vehicle familiar, comfortable and safe for customers. Stuart Energy uses hydrogen-only nozzles that are designed specifically for hydrogen vehicles; and comes with a standard in-line break away. Captured Vent technology eliminates the release of gas when the nozzle is disconnected from the vehicle. The arrangement of the dispenser components is such that in the event of a leak, hydrogen will vent and dissipate into the air well away from the user. The hose and nozzle are designed to electrically ground the fueling components automatically. Hydrogen itself has some inherent properties that make it a safe fuel: 14.5 times lighter than air and will disperse quickly if released Non-toxic if leaked or spilled As with all fuels, hydrogen must be treated with respect. Safety precautions similar to those used at conventional gasoline stations also apply to hydrogen fueling stations.

Fuel Dispenser Options Fuel Type Dispensing Pressure Dispensing Type Dispenser Options Hydrogen Hydrogen & Natural Gas 250 and 50 bar (,600 and 5,000 psi) 250 bar (,600 psi) 50 bar (5,000 psi) Fast-Fill Slow-Fill Fuel type Customers have the option to dispense pure hydrogen or a blend of hydrogen and natural gas to be used in vehicles with natural gas engines. The SES Fuel Dispenser is offered in two dispensing configurations: (1) pure hydrogen or (2) hydrogen and blended hydrogen/natural gas. Dispensing The Fuel Dispenser is also available with various dispensing pressure options, typically 250 bar (,600 psi), 50 bar (5,000 psi), or both 250 and 50 bar. Customer Interface Additional Options Personal Identification Number (PIN) Swipe Card Credit Card Flow Metering Data Display Data Capture Customers can also decide between a fast-fill design (fueling a passenger vehicle in as little as 2- minutes or a bus in 10 minutes); or a slow-fill design where a vehicle or bus gradually receives the fuel over a longer period of time. Customer Interface The SES Fuel Dispenser is available with a personal identification number (PIN), a swipe card or credit card customer interface for fleet and retail fueling applications. Customers may require dispensers with flow metering, or the data display option that shows the amount of fuel dispensed during use. As well, the data capture option is particularly useful for fleet managers wishing to monitor and optimize their fleet s fuel efficiency.

Power One of the key value propositions of the SES-p is its ability to take electricity and store it as hydrogen, including lowcost off-peak electricity or electricity from intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, for later deployment as higher-value energy. The SES Power is offered with a hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine (H2ICE) gen-set that converts hydrogen into electricity for back-up power, supplemental power, peak shaving or remote off-grid primary power. The SES Power is designed for quick start-up to provide critical back-up power in the event of a grid power disruption. It can ramp up from standby mode to full load operation in under 15 seconds. The Power is scalable and able to generate a few kilowatts of electricity up to a megawatt. A typical power module is based on a turbocharged H2ICE mated to an electrical generator. A fuel cell based Power is also available. The H2ICE is integrated with the generator to produce electricity. The entire SES Power is protected by a sound-attenuated weather-proof enclosure. 125 kw Power : The H ICE 2 6.8 L Ford Triton engine modified to run on hydrogen Operates at,000 rpm lean burn fuel-oxygen ratio to virtually eliminate NO emissions x The Generator Standard 125 kw of power (higher outputs available) Available in 50 and 60 Hz, in a wide range of voltages Renewable source of electricity.

TM The Power of Hydrogen Clean - Hydrogen is an environmentally friendly fuel that can meet the world s energy needs. Water electrolysis produces hydrogen with no on-site emissions, and when renewable sources of electricity are used (wind, hydro, solar), the entire cycle from electricity generation to hydrogen production is zero-emission. The environmental benefits of hydrogen continue when used in an internal combustion engine or a fuel cell. Secure - Hydrogen energy is both regional and global. Any nation, region, or neighbourhood in the world with local sources of electricity and water can produce their own hydrogen. This allows countries, organizations and individuals to become energy independent, self-sufficient and free from the limitations of relying on external sources of energy. Distributed Energy - Both individual consumers and large organizations can generate their own hydrogen energy, on site and on demand anywhere there is electricity and water. Hydrogen can be used in a variety of applications including the manufacture of industrial products, fuel for vehicles, and power for buildings, homes and appliances. Hydrogen is an excellent energy carrier that can efficiently meet many customers needs.
