1. Specialized Training Programme on Chemical Tanker Operations (CHEMCO) Duration & Recognition: This is a 12-day course approved by the Indian Administration, Maritime & Port Authority (MPA), Singapore and Liberia. Conducted at: Mumbai, Lonavala, Chennai & Delhi This course provides understanding of safety on chemical tanker, pollution prevention, operational practice and obligation under applicable laws and regulations for masters, chief engineers, officers and any other person with immediate responsibility for the loading, discharging and care in transit or handling of cargo. It comprises of a specialized training programme appropriate to their duties. The course takes full account of section A-V/1 of the STCW Code adopted by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarers 1978, as amended in 1995. Conducted at: Mumbai & Lonavala On Successful completion of this course, trainees will be able to serve on chemical tankers in an operational capacity (that is other than master, chief engineer, chief mate or second engineer), and to perform specific duties and responsibilities related to those duties in connection with cargo and cargo equipment, provided that they are not immediately responsible for the loading, discharging, care in transit or handling of cargo. 3. Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) Duration & Recognition: This is a 5-day course approved by the Indian administration. This course is also approved by the following administrations/recognized organizations: Maritime & Port Authority (MPA) Singapore Marshall Islands Republic of Liberia Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Conducted at: Lonavala This 5 day course is based on IMO Model Course 1.27 and is specifically aimed to provide generic training to officers as required under STCW convention. Electronic Chart Display and Information System is new concept in the direction of paperless chart bridge. This course is to familiarize the officers with this system, the basic theory as well as hands on training in the operation of an actual ECDIS system. 4. Engine Room Simulator Management Level (ERS - ML) Duration & Recognition: This is a 5-day course approved by the Indian administration. Conducted at: Lonavala The trainees who successfully complete this course will gain experience in handling engine room equipment under various conditions and will make a more effective contribution to the engine room keeping team during various conditions. 6. Free Fall Life Boat (FFLB) Duration & Recognition: This is a 2-day course approved by Indian administration and DNV. Conducted at: Lonavala The course syllabus covers the competencies as required in element/s related to Free Fall Lifeboat in STCW 1995 Section A VI / 2 Table A VI / 2-1 and section 5.4 of the IMO Model Course 1.23. Trainees who successfully complete this course shall be able to undertake tasks, duties and responsibilities related to launch and recovery of a Free Fall Lifeboat and take charge of a boat as a Coxswain and for other related duties as Designated Persons. 8. Liquefied Gas Tanker Familiarization (GASFAM) Duration & Recognition: This is a 5-day course approved by the administration of India. Conducted at: Mumbai & Lonavala This course is intended for support level officers (that is other than master, chief engineer, chief mate or second engineer) who have not previously served on board liquefied gas tankers as part of the regular complement. It covers the mandatory minimum training requirement prescribed in STCW. On Successful completion of this course, trainees will be able to serve on gas tankers in an operational capacity, and to perform specific duties and responsibilities in connection with cargo and cargo equipment, provided that they are not immediately responsible for the loading, discharging, care in transit or handling of cargo. 9. LPG Cargo and Ballast Handling Simulator Management Level (LGSC ML) Duration & Recognition: This is a 5-day course approved by Indian administration and DNV. Conducted at: Lonavala This course is essentially a practical one and consists of a series of exercises structured around the operation of the cargo and ballast installation of a liquefied gas tanker and carried out in conjunction with a simulator. The exercises are controlled by an instructor and, initially, allow the trainees to become familiar with the layout of the cargo tanks, hold (void) spaces and ballast tanks forming the system and the instrumentation and controls that are used. 11. Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator Management Level (LCHS -ML) Duration & Recognition: This is a 5-day course approved by the Indian administration. Conducted at: Mumbai The LCHS is undoubtedly one of the most important teaching aids for a seafarer. The LCHS installed at SIMS simulates the processes and systems used in a vast range of operations ranging from the routine cargo work to emergencies with a catastrophic potential. The LCHS presently installed at SIMS is a PC based version which consists of an instructor s station and 3 trainee stations with a potential of adding 3 more trainee stations in future. The 3 trainee stations can either carry out independent operations or be a part of a single ship where they can practice the communication and coordination required on a real ship. The simulator is equipped with 2 different ship models based on Crude oil tanker and Chemical Tanker with FRAMO pumping system. The course objective is to provide hands-on experience on a simulator dealing with cargo operations on an Oil Tanker. The candidate will be able to plan, execute, monitor and keep records of various cargo activities conducted on a tanker. The officer will also be able to diagnose problems occurring normally during operations along with dealing with certain simulated emergencies.
