For the highest stress Highest resistance to wear durostat steels are characterized by their high hardness and are optimally suited to applications with high mechanical stress and high levels of abrasion, such as those in loading and conveying machinery, dredgers, wheel loader buckets, truck tippers and superstructures, crushing plants, screening equipment and chutes. durostat B steels (boron-alloyed hardenable steels in as-rolled condition) are intended for structures that are subject to heavy strain such as agricultural machinery, cutting edges for front-end loaders and brick-molding boxes.
Wear-resistant steel grades through best processing properties voestalpine is a highly professional and reliable partner to many important customers in the construction and mechanical engineering industry. In this role, the company is naturally committed to extensive research and development activities in order to provide products that help our customers more effectively surmount future challenges. durostat steels made by voestalpine available as heavy plate or as hot-rolled steel strip. durostat 400 and durostat 450 are wear-resistant, direct-quenched carbon steels that demonstrate the best processing properties and numerous other advantages. durostat 500 is a conventionally quenched steel that offers a very high level of wear-resistance. Steel grades durostat B2 and durostat B4 are delivered in as-rolled condition and are designed for conventional heat treatment. Extensive laboratory experiments, large-scale trials, industrial-scale applications and customer references have confirmed the benefits and potential of durostat steels in the construction and mechanical engineering industry. Convincing advantages Longer service life with much higher resistance to wear Weight savings due to reduced plate thickness as a result of high hardness Good surface quality due to thinner, more easily removable rolling scale Good weldability with elimination of preheating for small plate thicknesses Guaranteed toughness for low temperatures in application
Decisive advantages for your applications The high hardness and wear resistance of durostat steels result in much longer product service life and weight savings through light-weight design. durostat steels quenched directly after hot rolling are characterized by clean surfaces and shorter throughput times during further processing. State-of-the-art alloying technologies with low carbon content guarantee excellent weldability. Longer service life As a result of their high degrees of hardness, durostat steels are characterized by wear resistance that is much higher than that of conventional steels. Weight savings Because of the high degree of material hardness as compared to conventional construction steels, sheet thicknesses can be significantly reduced while maintaining the same length of service life. This leads to lower dead weights and higher payloads, especially in automotive engineering. Clean surface A uniform layer of scale forms on the sheet surface following hot rolling, direct quenching and accelerated cooling. This becomes a layer of natural protection against corrosion during transport of the product to the customer and makes it unnecessary to apply an environmentally incompatible primer. The rolling scale is thin and can be removed more easily by sandblasting prior to further processing at the customer than the thick mill scale created by the conventional quenching process. This also means less scale accumulation during processing in customer production lines. Hot-rolled Hot-rolled durostat sheets up to 8 mm can also be supplied in pickled condition. Good weldability Modern alloying strategies that utilize low carbon content are characteristic of our durostat grades. This results in very good weldability. Preheating is not necessary at all for thinner sheets.
Best properties in various forms of supply The high hardness of durostat steels results in significant performance increases in wear resistance when compared to conventional steels. In spite of the high degrees of hardness, the notch impact energy is favorable even at low application temperatures. High degree of hardness Their high level of hardness is adjusted by means of accelerated cooling after hot rolling (direct-quenched) or through conventional quenching. Direct quenching is preferred because toughness is improved and scale formation reduced. durostat steels are available in hardness values of up to 400, 450 and 500 HB. durostat B2 and B4 are delivered in as-rolled condition or soft-annealed upon request. The highest achievable hardness, independently of the hardening process, is 50 HRC (durostat B2) and 55 HRC (durostat B4). Guaranteed toughness In spite of high material hardness, favorable notch impact energy levels are achieved with direct quenching immediately following hot rolling. We supply durostat 400 in plate thicknesses ranging between 8 and 30 mm with a guaranteed longitudinal notch impact energy of at least 30 J at 40 C. The properties of the individual steel grades are described in the durostat data sheets (heavy plate and hot-rolled steel strip) Available as hot-rolled steel strip and heavy plate We supply direct-quenched durostat steels as cut sheets from hot-rolled steel strip in thicknesses ranging between 2.5 and 6 mm and widths of up to 1560 mm. Boron-alloyed, hardenable durostat B steels are available as hot-rolled steel strip (non-slit/slit) and as cut sheets. These steel grades are supplied as heavy plate in thicknesses ranging between 8 and 100 mm, widths of up to 3000 mm and weights of up to 15 tons. We also offer durostat steels in cut shapes.
