Hynds Aerated Wastewater Systems How it Works The Hynds SAF Wastewater System is a multiple-stage treatment process incorporated into modular tanks. Incoming wastewater is initially treated in a primary anaerobic treatment tank before passing through a biological solids filter and into a balance tank. Here, an advanced electronic control system regulates the flow into the main treatment tanks, protecting the system from surge loading and scouring of the filter media. Effluent then enters the submerged aerated filtration stage of the treatment process. Here, oxygen is infused into the water though fine bubble diffusers to create an aerobic environment. This oxygen sustains the micro-organisms, contained in unique biomass media, which cleans and filters the effluent. Hynds SAF Wastewater Systems utilise a dual aeration/filtration process to maximise the treatment of the wastewater. The effluent is then polished using a clarifier system before being pumped out via a drip irrigation network that automatically dose loads a suitably designed area. Commonly used areas for disposal are shrub landscaping, native bush, or tree stands. Irrigated areas are barked and landscaped. EVW 2 Hynds Commercial Wastewater Systems April 2013 Sizing and Design Hynds Environmental offers an engineering service to design the optimal solution for your site. Sizing of commercial wastewater systems is based on the peak flows expected. Typical flows for a Hynds SAF Wastewater System range from 3,000 to 150,000 litres per day. Hynds Mbr Wastewater Systems The Hynds Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Wastewater System is a state of the art, modular sewage treatment system ideal for large residential and commercial developments requiring on-site tertiary wastewater treatment. Utilising membrane bioreactor technology, Hynds MBR Wastewater Systems combine suspended growth biological treatment with immersed membrane technology to produce a tertiary level effluent quality that exceeds traditional treatment methods. EVW 2 Hynds Commercial Wastewater Systems April 2013 The effluent quality is typically better than 5:5:5 mg/l BOD 5 : Suspended Solids : Ammonia and the effective pore size of 0.01 microns (ultra filtration) removes viruses and pathogenic micro-organisms so further disinfection is not required. Its automatic operation, easy cleaning process and integral sludge storage coupled with small size, low odour and low noise generation ensures minimal environmental impact. MBR technology was developed as a result of a Japanese government initiative to produce high quality effluent from treatment plants with small footprints. Initially designed for commercial, municipal and industrial wastewater treatment applications, MBR technology can also be successfully applied to subdivisions, schools, campgrounds, parks and resorts. Applications Hynds MBR Wastewater Systems are suitable for any commercial site requiring on-site tertiary wastewater treatment. Typical applications include: Sub-divisions Schools Community halls Marae Campgrounds Factories Wineries and restaurants Parks and resorts Typical flows for Hynds Commercial Wastewater Systems range from 3,000 to 500,000 litres per day. A clear, odourless effluent is produced suitable for discharge to the surrounding countryside or may be reused in certain applications. Features The advantages of choosing a Hynds MBR Wastewater System include: Most advanced wastewater technology available Fully designed by qualified engineers Viruses are removed through ultra filtration so no further disinfection required Treated permeate may be available for reuse Simple retrofit for the upgrading of an existing system Alarmed system with full 24-hour emergency storage capacity Small plant footprint Not restricted by conventional limits of mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) concentrations can operate in the range 12 000 mg/l 20 000 mg/l Modular design that is easily expandable Low operation and maintenance costs 5
EVW 2 Hynds Commercial Wastewater Systems April 2013 Hynds Aerated Wastewater Systems Sizing and Design Hynds Environmental offers an engineering service to design the optimal solution for your site. The sizing of a Hynds MBR Wastewater System is based on the peak flows expected. Typical flows range from 3,000 to 500,000 litres per day. To provide an accurate quotation to design and install a Hynds MBR Wastewater System, a trained technician will assess the physical requirements of the landowner and develop an understanding of the site s location, landscaping and drainage requirements. For Hynds Environmental to complete the final design of the wastewater system, the owner will need to supply site plans and a geotechnical report for the site. How it Works The Hynds MBR Wastewater System produces a high quality disinfected effluent. The incoming wastewater generally only requires screening and de-gritting prior to entering the membrane bioreactor tank. The process requires no primary or secondary settlement stages and no additional tertiary treatment or UV stages. A very high effluent quality is achieved, typically better than 5:5:5 mg/l BOD 5 : Suspended Solids : Ammonia. Hynds MBR wastewater technology employs simple flat sheet membrane panels housed in stainless steel units and aerated by a coarse bubble system below each unit. A series of these membranes are submerged within an activated sludge treatment tank. The aeration generates an upward cross-flow over the membranes, essential to keep fouling of the filtration surface to a minimum. The membrane panels are securely retained and do not touch or abrade each other. The units also act as a flume to ensure effective tank mixing and even distribution of the biomass. The membrane panels are manufactured with a pore size in the range of 0.1 to 0.4 microns. In operation these panels become covered by a dynamic layer of protein and cellular material, providing an effective pore size of less than 0.01 microns. This is within the ultra filtration range. The treated permeate is then stored in a pump chamber where it is discharged, either directly into a receiving waterway or through a drip irrigation network. 6
Performance System Maintenance Hynds MBR technology treats wastewater at an ultra filtration level, ensuring that the following standards are met: Very high effluent quality is achieved, typically better than 5:5:5 mg/l BOD 5 : Suspended Solids : Ammonia Faecal Coliforms typically less than 5/100ml Effluent is rendered free of pathogens, viruses and bacteria Total nitrogen and total phosphorus removal can also be incorporated if required Operation of the MBR system is continuous and an advanced PLC alarm system is installed on site to alert the owner to the service requirements of the system. Hynds Environmental offers an annual contract to service the system. This will be completed by a trained technician.
