The system solution for sustainable food packaging ROBA
Material symbiosis Product labelling Separable waste disposal. Fresh and convenience products represent a significant proportion of the food supply in our society. High-quality foods need to be packaged conveniently and safely. The requirements for product labelling are constantly growing, the debate about the sustainability of products and packaging becomes increasingly important. All of these objectives are also subject to the demands of industrial processing and the consideration of economic interests. Corrugated board is the world s most widely used packaging material. Corrugated board packaging is made almost entirely of natural raw materials or recycled materials. Film is extremely important for use in modern food packaging. is a packaging solution which is made of the basic materials corrugated board and film. The ability to print on corrugated board allows manufacturers of products in need of explanation to describe their goods with text and images. The upper film can also be used for this. A variety of printing technologies allow differing product descriptions, even for small batches. The used packaging materials, corrugated board and film, can be easily separated from each other and disposed of separately. The two materials are then processed by the appropriate disposal and recycling systems. While corrugated board goes into the recycling process, the plastic component has been significantly reduced compared to conventional packaging. 2 3
Inline manufacturing process Blank Assembly Film insertion Filling Sealing The starting point is a flat, unfolded blank made of corrugated board. This takes the form of printed, die-cut and creased corrugated board, which is fed into the next step whilst lying flat and unfolded. Assembly machines take the blank and make it into a three-dimensional tray for further processing in the filling plant. The film is thermoformed by tools using pressure and vaccuum. The special film with low shrink characteristics is simultaneously attached to the corrugated board tray at the top edge. Product filling processes as well as, where necessary, gas exchange are made by production machines of the packaging industry, fully-automatically or manually. The packaging process is finished by applying the film lid and trimming the edges. is variable in height from 10 to 50 mm. Special sizes are available. The system partners The initial idea and aim was to make a tray out of corrugated board which would also meet the requirements of modern food packaging. The standards could only be met by working with other specialists from the fields of film and mechanical engineering. is a packaging system that combines the criteria of product promotion, surface feel, safety, sustainability and industrial scale manufacturing processes.
