More Options For Material Testing A comprehensive list of optional features allows LCR 7000 to test a wide range of materials. A 200 mm barrel allows up to 45 data points to be obtained in a single test. A buried die and multi-zone heating on the barrel provide unparalled stability. A corrosion resistant alloy barrel is available for testing corrosive materials. A melt pressure transducer is mounted just above the entrance to the die to minimize frictional and barrel pressure drop effects. For accurate measurement of die swell as the extrudate exits the die, a Laser Micrometer option is also available. The LCR 7002 dual bore model provides simultaneous data from long and short dies for Bagley Corrections or elongation studies. LCR7002 has a 20,000 to 1 dynamic speed range that provides greater speed accuracy and a drive system that is nearly three times as efficient as the range of similar models. Digital sensor recognition allows automatic adjustment of the transducer offset and calibration of its electronics. Control and Analysis Within Excel LCR 7000 s on-board computer is a powerful system for reporting polymer melt viscosity data. Raw data is obtained by simply connecting a printer directly to LCR 7000. At the end of the test, the rheometer reports test increment time, forces, shear stress, shear rates and viscosities. Most users, however, connect LCR 7000 to a computer installed with the easy to use Laboratory Advanced Rheology Software (LAB KARS) For Windows. LAB KARS is the most powerful and easiest to use rheological software package available. All functions run from within the familiar Office '97 environment of Microsoft Excel, simplifying the most sophisticated software and data reporting. LAB KARS provides a familiar data analysis platform full of standard workbooks for detailed analysis including non-linear curve fitting Rabinowitsch and Bagley corrections, Power Law, Carreau, Modified Cross and polynomial viscosity models. LAB KARS For Windows allows users to easily merge multiple data files and perform shear rate, shear stress or thermal stability tests. LAB KARS SQC mode quickly indicates viscosity variations in different lots of polymer and can correlate the intrinsic viscosity of PET materials. In addition, the shear rate versus viscosity data for the tested material is displayed. This IV correlation can reduce or eliminate the need to perform solution viscosity tests on PET materials. LAB KARS is compatible with Windows 95, 98 or NT operating systems and is Y2K compliant. Powerful SQC/SPC Programs LCR 7000 Series of rheometers allows detailed analysis of the melt flow characteristics of molten polymers, providing test capabilities more comprehensive than those of a melt indexer. LAB KARS software enables users to determine the consistency of each new lot of incoming material to quantify how similar it is to material that ran in their process. In addition, the software allows acceptable upper and lower limits of viscosity versus shear rate for each material processed to be established. Subsequent material test runs are readily identified as being within or outside acceptable limits.
Greater Accuracy and Versatility with Dual Bore Model LCR 7002 dual bore capillary rheometer allows simultaneous testing of a low and high shear rate, making it ideal for use with elastomeric materials, for fiber polymer related applications, or where elongation issues must be studied. By using both a short and long die, Bagley corrections, elongation data and extensional viscosity can be obtained in a single test run. Since different batches of material with nearly identical shear viscosities can react differently in the process, it is critical to test for changes in a material's extensional properties. LCR 7002 enables various extensional viscosity calculations to be done automatically, including sink flow, Cogswell and Gibson type calculations. Model LCR 7002 has a 20,000 to 1 dynamic speed range that provides greater speed accuracy and a drive system that is nearly three times as efficient as the range of similar models. Barrel-mounted pressure transducers are included with the rheometer, and digital sensor recognition allows automatic adjustment of the transducer offset and calibration of its electronics. Accurate temperature control is achieved through an adaptive PID algorithm with 0.1 C resolution at a range of up to 430 C. Tungsten carbide dies with a variety of diameters and L/D ratios provide a wide range of measurement capability. Better Thermal Stability During Processing Determining the optimum processing temperature is critical. Materials such as PVC can begin to crosslink and exhibit a dramatic increase in viscosity if they spend too much time in the extruder. Other materials, such as polyamides, will exhibit a rapid loss of viscosity if left in the process too long. This can lead to rejected or failure-prone parts and wasted time and materials. The LCR 7000 allows the residence time capabilities of materials to be studied at a wide range of processing temperatures and shear rates so the optimal processing temperature can be determined. LCR 7000 helps identify the temperature sensitivity of materials. An important test capability enables materials to be tested under the same shear rate conditions and changing temperatures, allowing the effects of temperature on material viscosity to be studied. Real-Time Display In addition to all its other powerful features, LAB KARS for Windows provides a real time display of force or pressure versus time as the test progresses. This feature allows the operator to observe the steady state flow condition of the material. Any contamination, unmelted resin, or bubbles in the material may be identified from spikes in the force versus time curve.
