Orkot Hydro Bearings
A Global Approach Orkot Composites is a world-leading manufacturer and supplier of bearing materials for the hydro industry. Supported by an extensive global network of manufacturing plants, regional sales offices, agents and distributors, Orkot is able to offer the highest level of quality and service associated with a leading global company. Part of the Trelleborg group of companies, Orkot has been active and successful in the North American and European hydro markets for over 10 years. Hydro bearing materials
Orkot TXMM Bearings Key Features Low coefficient of friction the Orkot TXMM bearings exhibit a very low coefficient of friction whether operating in a dry or wet application. Another benefit of the Orkot material is that the friction is reduced as the load increases. Self Lubrication The addition of solid lubricants during the manufacturing process, enhances the bearings self-lubricating properties, thereby allowing the bearings to operate without the benefit of oil, grease or water lubrication while at the same time demonstrating low coefficients of friction. Low water absorption Orkot TXMM has excellent Excellent shock capabilities The Orkot TXMM material has excellent shock load capabilities making it ideal for use in hydro-electric applications where high impact and high frequency low amplitude oscillation cause a pounding out, effectively shortening bearing life or leading to bearing failure. High Load capabilities The Orkot TXMM bearing material has a high ultimate compressive strength. Outstanding edge loading capabilities The mechanical properties of the Orkot TXMM bearing material allow the bearing to operate properly under severe edge loading conditions. dimensional stability due to very low water absorption. Proven wear resistance The wear resistance of the Orkot TXMM material has been proven over many years of service in hydro, marine and water control applications. Easily machined Orkot TXMM material is easily machined using conventional machining techniques and as a general guide may be treated as brass or bronze and should be machined dry. It s exceptional mechanical and physical properties lend it to the tight tolerances associated with the hydro industry. Operates in all conditions - The unique bearing surface is suitable for wet or dry applications. Environmentally friendly The Orkot low frictionbearing surface which requires no lubrication eliminates any pollution concerns associated with petroleum based greases or lubricants.
Availability Orkot TXMM bearing material is available in tube and sheet form or it can be supplied fully machined to the customer s drawing. Orkot can supply the TXMM bearing material in sizes from 1 (25mm) to 66 (1.68m) diameter and in sheet sizes of 24 (609mm) by 48 (1219mm) & 16 (406mm) x 118 (2997mm) and in any thickness up to and including 4 (100mm). Applications Orkot TXMM hydro bearing material has a wide range of proven applications, including: Wicket gate/guide Vane bearings Wicket gate linkage bearings Vertical/horizontal pump shaft bearings Trash rake bearing & wear pads Lock gate bearings Runner blade bearings Fish screen bearings & wear pads Operating ring wear pads Butterfly valve shaft bearings Control gate bearings Wicket gate thrust bearings Servo motor bearings Upper/Lower vertical liners Eccentric pin bearings Segmented face seal rings Fish pump steady bearings Bulkhead wear pads Spillway gate trunnion bearings Spillway gate thrust washers
Characteristics Orkot TXMM is an advanced reinforced, medium weave polymer material incorporating a unique low friction-bearing surface and with the addition of solid lubricants greatly reduces the coefficient of friction. This unique combination of materials gives Orkot TXMM excellent mechanical strength with exceptional wear resistance and virtually no swell in water providing superior dimensional stability. In areas without lubrication, such as upper wicket gate/guide vane bearings, the Orkot TXMM bearing material has been especially effective in eliminating slip-stick problems associated with dry running conditions giving the materials a broad range of hydro applications. Service and Support Orkot has a team of highly experienced and skilled individuals who offer full and complete engineering services tailored to your specific requirements. Some aspects of the services available are: Technical assistance providing complete design recommendations and drawings for your specific application Extensive support service is complimented by a comprehensive range of technical documentation and the Orkot hydro bearing calculation program Calculation of bearings dimensions for internal or onsite machining is also available Onsite engineering and technical assistance is available upon request Quality & Classification Stringent quality procedures are maintained to ISO 9000 standards, allowing full traceability of product from raw material through to finished product. The Orkot TXMM hydro bearing material has been tested at Power Tech Laboratories at the specific request of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is approved for use in numerous applications associated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hydro facilities. The Dinorwig Power Station has performed Fitting Orkot TXMM bearings are normally retained with an interference fit. If additional axial security is required chemical bonding may be used. The bushing may be press fitted using a conventional hydraulic press or the bearings can be installed by shrinking with dry ice or liquid nitrogen. The Orkot TXMM bearings exhibit exceptional mechanical properties, and are particularly suited for freeze fitting without danger of shattering during the entire installation procedure. extensive field-testing of the Orkot TXMM bearing material with excellent results.
