[Sila pastikan bahawa kertas peperiksaan ini mengandungi LIMA muka surat yang bercetak sebelum anda memulakan peperiksaan ini.] Instructions: Answer FIVE (5) questions. You may answer the questions either in Bahasa Malaysia or in English. [Arahan: Jawab LIMA (5) soalan. Anda dibenarkan menjawab soalan sama ada dalam Bahasa Malaysia atau Bahasa Inggeris.] In the event of any discrepancies, the English version shall be used. - 2 - Attempt any FIVE questions. 1. (a) What are the particulate matters? How they contribute to the environmental problem? (7 marks) What is acid rain? Give mechanism of acid rain formation. Give sources and sinks of acid rain causing gases. (5 marks) 2. (a) Explain why the following gases are said to be the green house gases: CO 2, CH 4, N 2 O, O 3, CFCs and H 2 O Give sources and sinks of any FOUR of the above gases in 2(a). (12 marks) 3. Write notes on any THREE of the following: (a) (e) Photochemical smog Eutrophication Ozone Holes Global Warming Albedo cooling and warming (20 marks) 4. (a) What does primary, secondary, and tertiary water treatment achieve? How does each water treatment step achieve its goal(s)? What is the BOD of water in which 10 mg of sugar (C 12 H 22 O 11 ) is dissolved in a liter? How does this compare with the O 2 solubility at 20 C which is 9 mg/l? 3/-

- 3-5. (a) Write FOUR steps that can be implemented in order to control noise pollution. Describe a degradation of organic pollutants in soils through biological mechanisms. What is the difference between soil texture and soil structure. What are the methods in the remediation of soil contamination? 6. (a) Gives FOUR sources of air pollution. What is the role of producers, consumers and decomposers in an ecosystem? Gives FOUR sources of soil pollution. What are the air pollutions control measures adopted in industry? 7. (a) What is renewable energy? List THREE examples of the renewable energy sources. Briefly explain transformation of organic compound by bacteria. What determines the maximum amount of oxygen that can be dissolved in water? (5 marks) List down THREE general objectives for water sampling. (3 marks) 4/-

Berikan mekanisma pembentukan hujan asid. Berikan punca-punca pencemaran dan takungan pembersihan bagi hujan asid. (5 markah) 2. (a) Jelaskan kenapa gas-gas berikut dikenali sebagai gas rumah hijau: CO 2, CH 4, N 2 O, O 3, CFCs and H 2 O Berikan punca-punca dan takungan pembersihan mana-mana EMPAT gas di 2(a). (12 markah) 3. Tuliskan ringkasan mana-mana TIGA Perkara di bawah: (a) (e) Photochemical smog Eutrofikasi Lubang ozon Pemanasan dunia Pemanasan dan penyejukan albedo (20 markah) 4. (a) Apakah objektif dalam rawatan air primer, sekunder dan tertiar? Bagaimanakah setiap langkah rawatan air mencapai objektifnya? Apakah BOD bagi satu liter air yang mengandungi 10 mg gula (C 12 H 22 O 11 ) terlarut?. Bagaimanakah perbandingannya dengan keterlarutan O 2 pada 20 o C yang mana kepekatannya 9 mg/l. 5/-

- 5-5. (a) Tuliskan beberapa langkah yang boleh diimplementasikan dalam usaha mengawal pencemaran bunyi. Huraikan penguraian bahan pencemar organik di dalam tanah menerusi mekanisma biologi. Apakah perbezaan antara tekstur tanah dan struktur tanah. Apakah kaedah yang digunakan dalam pemuliharaan tanah yang tercemar. 6. (a) Berikan EMPAT sumber pencemaran udara. Apakah peranan pengeluar, pengguna dan pengurai dalam ekosistem. Berikan EMPAT punca pencemaran tanah. Nyatakan cara kawalan pencemaran udara yang digunapakai di industri. 7. (a) Apakah yang dimaksudkan dengan tenaga diperbaharui? Senaraikan TIGA contoh sumber tenaga diperbaharui. Jelaskan secara ringkas transformasi bahan organik oleh bakteria.
